When did you take "Rotoguru.com:" out of the title bar? I miss it.

All forum pages - forum index pages and threads - used to have the generic title "RotoGuru Message Forum". About 2 weeks ago, in conjunction with some RSS program updates, I set up each forum to be titled by its name (e.g., "RotoGuru Baseball Forum"), and each thread to be titled by the thread subject. If you typically have more than one forum browser window open, this makes it easier to identify which is which. But if you typically have only one forum window open and other non-RotoGuru windows open, I realize it may be less obvious to figure out which is the RotoGuru window (without opening it).

After two weeks of experience, I think I prefer it this way, but I'm open to changing it back if there is a consensus to do so, or to finding some alternate title system that would be more useful.

Guru - what if you set the title to "Rotoguru.com - [forum name] - [title]" ?

I also just noticed that when you are reviewing a post (before posting it) the old title "RotoGuru Message Forum" is still there.

Or even Rotoguru - Title, leaving the maximum room to view it. But I clearly fall into the group that has 10,000 windows open all the time.

I could always add a longer title, but to what end? When multiple windows are open, you typically see only a portion of the title on the taskbar, which is why I thought that getting the thread title right at the beginning was useful. If I stick the forum name at the beginning, then I guess you'd need to mouse-over the taskbar window to see enough of the title to identify it.

Guru -
1) it depends on the browser you are using. I use Opera and it has the tabbed browsing functionality where I can get a list of all open windows (the title of them) with [CTRL]+[TAB] and navigate through it before viewing the page. this is a huge time-saver when you have a lot of pages open. longer titles could help here.

2) If I would use the old crappy IE/Netscape without tabs I have to use [ALT]+[TAB] and there I can also see the short title (where the available space is larger

3) on the other side are those who are using a single browser-window with tabs (Opera, Firefox, Avant) where the tabs are limited to about 25 signs and don't use the Opera feature described in 1)

personally, I am fine with the current layout. I only want to list some of my thoughts on this topic. you can't satisfy 100%. you are already way ahead of most sites with the recently added Firefox and RSS support.

Would it then be helpful to put the forum name after the thread title? That way, you get a more complete descriptive title, with the more detailed info left justified.

How about just a capital "RG-" then the title of thread?

Recognizing that there is no perfect solution, how's this for a thread title template:

RMF: subject [Forum name]

For example, this thread is now titled
RMF: Title Bar [Forum Developments]

As threads are created or updated, the new title format will kick in. Hope this is a useful change.

I like it. People looking over my shoulder keep asking what RMF stands for. I need a better story.

Yokel, I once had a Regurgitated Moldy Falafel in college. It was at the Falafel King on the corner of University Ave. and 13th street in Gainesville.

Upon further review, I love this. Love love love, as the commercial says. You might want to try to register RMF.com, or at least RMF.ca. It's much simpler to scan my taskbar this way.
