Wasn't quite sure where to put this so I hope this is appropriate. After reading Guru's blurb for the day, I just wanted to say "CONGRATULATIONS DAVE!!!!" on the 10 year anniversary of this site.

I've only been around for a relatively short time but I sincerely am grateful for the time, efforts, thoughts and other under-appreciated words of wisdom that have been expressed by you, Dave, in maintaining this "labor of love". May you have many more years of statisical and technological glee without disturbance and may many more contribute monetarily and otherwise to this wonderful fantasy-worthy site.

For my fellow Gurupies....thanks for your input and your assistance in whatever form that may be in helping Guru to make this site what it is today. The friendships we've made (along with undoubtedly our fair share of a few enemies) are pretty much a microcosm of the fantasy world today.

Congrats again Guru! No one deserves it more!

I was wondering when someone would post this!

Congrats Guru!

I think I've been using this site since close to the beginning (at least 2000, according to the registry). I've gotten progressively worse at fantasy sports since then, but it's almost entirely due to having children ;) I shudder to think how horrible I'd be without the Guru tools and Gurupie advice. Thanks so much.

Ten years is quite an accomplishment. I am one of many that owe a huge debt of gratitude to you as I really enjoy reading and posting on these message boards. Time to renew my donation.

I'd love to read the data on visits through the years.

I was posting on "the old" forum... I remember that when I was like 18 in college (9 years ago)?

Dave - when did we switch to the "new" forum?

I can't say that I remember the "old" forum, but I discovered rotoguru in 1999. I want to say thank you many hours of enjoyment.

Happy 10 years to you... ♫

Congratulations and thank you Guru!

I love this forum. I especially love the games -Guru Golf, Market Madness, Football Pickoff, and especially the RIBC.

I think it was sometime in 1999 that I found this site, and it has been on the top of my bookmarks ever since. Not a day goes by where I do not surf by and see what is going on in the forum and on the blurbs. Over the years this site has been a great source enjoyment and a source of thousands of unproductive work hours.

Congrats!

I started on this site in college in 2000 when I discovered smallworld hoops. Most of my trades were made by reading recommendations and using tools provided by the site. Although I don't play smallworld (or tsn?) any longer, I come here for all of my baseball and basketball advice as I consider myself a novice in those sports compared to football. When I am lucky, I also get to see some heated discussions in the politics forum!

Wow.......congratulations Dave. Ten years is a phenomenal accomplishment.

My earliest "documented" RotoGuru involvement goes back to the 1999 Market Madness contest.....although I know it started earlier - probably Smallworld Basketball, circa 1998 or earlier. Wow. Incredible.

Thanks for making such a fantastic community. Long live Rotoguru!

Congrats Dave!

Awesome. I'm wondering if anyone still has the original email Guru sent out announcing the site 10 years ago. I keep everything but had a data catastrophe in 2000, so I don't have any records from that far back.

It's been an amazing 10 years and this site and forum represents just about everything I love about the Internet and people in general. Thanks Dave for everything you've done to keep this going, as well as all the contributors that have added to the experience over the decade.

I'll impose for just a minute and suggest that those of you that can donate to the site to help keep this going, please do so. I could probably give you reasons all day on why you should, yet there's really nothing any of us can say that will make the difference. I'll just ask that you take 60 seconds out of your day and ponder what this site and community mean to you, then act as you see fit.

Just for fun, I'd love to see some links to some of our favorite threads over the years. I'll start:

Dave,
Congrats on the anniversary.
Just a great site that has been so much a part of my life for a long time now.
Not sure if it was baseball of 98 or 99 that I found the site through Pogophiles (who I haven't seen on for a long time - We met through a Cigar Newsgroup)

Lots and lots of friends made through the site.

Happy anniversary!
This is the best site for interaction about sports that I've found. When I first came in everyone seemed pretty excepting of new people, and that still continues.
My first Guru memory is the RIFC 3 years ago, and I've been part of that ever since then. I am pretty sure I was snooping around for a little while before that though.
Thanks for running such a great site, Guru!

Gosh, congrats on having the site up this long. I can't even remember what year I came here, but it was most likely for SW Hoops in 98. There's definitely a lot of names still around that I recognize, although I'm somewhat curious as to who, unfortunately, were the ones who passed.

Anyways, heres to another 10!

I think I started in 1998. I remember coming home from college and having only the Lynx web browser at my disposal. I couldn't get to the Rotoguru tools, but I could get to the message forum.

I also remember specifically choosing the name blue hen. I had a SW hoops team called "Fightin Blue Hens" (like UD's nickname), and it seemed natural to post using that name. Thank goodness it's short and easy to type. I have no idea how the Gurupie Consonant types all of that out every time. Oh wait, it remembers. Heh.

We've played a lot of games in these parts - Smallworld, Swirve, Pick The Loser, G20, RIXC, Market Madness, Grand Slam Baseball, SSB, GuruGolf, and about a million others - and it's been fun to have the competition.

Congrats on the past ten and good luck in the next ten.

Oh yeah. Actually, the RWF is an organized, mature competition, even if you aren't allowed to draft NFL players like Tim Brown.

It is perhaps even more telling to think about the predecessor - where we just drafted guys and tried to get the most wins. I think I took William Regal and Buh Buh Ray Dudley with my first two picks.

Super anniversary congratulations to you Dave!!

I've been reading your blurbs for practically the entire decade and they've always been very much enjoyed. I think that I first visited the site because of your Small World team name of "rotoguru.com". If I'm remembering correctly, way back then (97-98 time frame) there wasn't even a "1st" version of the message forum. The only interaction between the guru and his gurupies was via emails, the daily blurbs, and a "feedback letters" page.

And I can still remember sitting in front of a pc, in a large college computer lab back in 1999, and reading your April 1st blurb stating that after much consideration you had come to the realization that due to financial concerns you'd no longer be able to continue the free version of the rotoguru.com website. Tools like the Assimilator would now be subscription fee based. I hung on each word and was relieved and embarassed when by the end of the blurb it was made clear that it was an April Fools (me) Day joke. It's been a great 10 years and may it continue for many more! An overdue paypal contribution is coming your way. Thanks Dave.

My first exposure to Guru was after a column he wrote on the old Smallworld site in July 1998. I decided to drop him a note about it, and he wrote back a nice note inviting me to check out rotoguru.com, and he's been dismayed about it ever since.

:)

I think there were a number of us who were lead to the site from those columns.

I checked out that old message board--and see that Grant Hill was having some back problems! Some things never change.

Congrats, Guru. Here's to ten more!

Congrats for being online for 10 years. You've managed to keep your cool and find ways to stay afloat amid the ever changing face of Internet economics, spam, and trolls. Sure don't miss the old days of clicking the ads to generate whatever fraction of a cent that got for you!

I wasn't here from the beginning, but long enough to wonder where all the years have gone. Thanks for providing this forum, the great tools, the friendships, and the various games that you put so much effort into for us fantasy sports geeks :)

I've seen plenty in my internet career, but nothing has really compared to this place for whatever reason.

I'm trying to think of another board as tight-knit and with as much comraderie, depth and longevity of posters... where people meet up and have drinks and go on trips together and give out home phone numbers for chats etc...

Guru,
Congrats on 10 years.
Ten years as an Internet site is a fantastic accomplishment. You should be proud.
Who could ask for a better site for fantasy sports?
But not just that, it's a pre-Web2.0 "social networking" site.
How many friendships have been built through this site online and offline?

I have not posted here in a while, but I wanted to say Congrats to Guru.

I started playing Smallworld back in 98 I believe. Because of your site and only your site I am addicted to these fantasy games. Your site has made fantasy sports so much more enjoyable, thank you.

I wish everyone the best in this holiday season and for the next 10 years.

I saw somewhere over on the TSN boards that there was some who have left Rotoguru.com due to dissension over here with attitude problems, incessant arguing and whatnot. For what it's worth, I've never had any problems with any person here on this site and although I may not always agree with everyone's opinion, I always think back to what one of my teacher's once said:

Congrats. I found the site in 99 from smallworld hoops. There was this perpetual team in the top 5 WWR named "rotoguru.com" What an advertising vehicle. My first post was a "what do you think about this trade" post in which I changed my own handle and talked to myself. True story.
