0 Subject: Questions about the Assimilator

I've been using the Assimilator for a long time now and I'm just wondering if you could save your roster to a disk or any kind of file. It is just that using different computers makes it harder to use it especially when you have to select all ten slots. If I have a copy of my roster in a disk, I could just pop a disk into the computer and retrieve info from there.
Another problem is that whenever the computer deletes the temp files, the roster disappears and I still have to enter every one of the players.
I guess some of the gurupies also experience this. I really don't mind doing it over and over again but sometimes, it just becomes irritating and frustrating.

Anyway, if it is not possible, I guess there's nothing I could do. The Assimilator has been one of the best fantasy tools I've seen thus far. I'll just have to accept it.

Reds,
Your team roster is stored in a cookie file. You should be able to move your file wherever you want. The trick is determining which cookie is your team.

Just a quick answer to whett your appetite until Guru can give you more specifics...

So I could possibly copy the cookie to a disk and make a program to copy it back to the hard drive?

I'll try that and I'll also try to find out if the cookies are stored in the same directory of different computers.

If you use Netscape, your cookies are stored in a file called cookies.txt, which is probably somewhere down the /Program Files/Netscape/... file path. You can copy this file to the new machine, and effectively transfer the rosters.

Unfortunately, Netscape has cookie limitations that often result in lost rosters, so I prefer to use MSIE for the Assimilator. JavaScript execution is also much faster in MSIE (although I haven't tried Netscape 6 yet).

MSIE cookies are stored in /Windows/Temporary Internet Files/, but I do not believe it is possible to copy them from one computer to another. At least, I've never been successful at it - though I haven't tried lately.

To allow the Assimilator to store files on the server would involve some major reprogramming. At this point, I'd rather find a simpler solution.

Perhaps I can figure out a way to let you export a roster to a file, so that you can later import it. This would also be a good way to back up Netscape cookies in the event of cookie amnesia.

Let me mull over this....

In the spirit of continuous improvement, I had another suggestion for the Assimilator (unencumbered by how hard or easy these things are).

Right now, it is a great tool for modelling different rosters AT A POINT IN TIME. Usually when I'm thinking about this stuff, I think about combinations, with some trades made sooner, some later. Is there a way to design the Assimilator to model this complexity? I'm thinking about a utility that would allow a different player/schedule to kick in at a designated point in time. This might add a sub-row below a player line in the bottom table. Along with this, it might be helpful to have a running tally of cash and trades remaining as well as projected points. I find myself printing a copy and doing this by hand anyway, do others have the same process?
