Subject: Sponsor Experiences

My Support a Sponsor page now provides a number of commission and/or "finder's fee" options at the bottom. So far, I've chosen the ones listed because: 1. I found them 2. They seemed like they might have appeal to some Gurupies 3. The commission/fee scheme seemed fair.
But I have no personal experience with most of these merchants and sites, which makes it difficult for me to make any personal pitches.
I thought it might be helpful to open this thread for any of you to share your experiences - good or bad - with any of the listed affiliates.
Have you purchased anything from one of the affilated merchants, and was the experience satisfactory or unsatisfactory?
Have you registered for any service, and would you recommend it, or recommend against it?
By tapping into the Gurupie collective, hopefully we can steer each other to good sites, while helping us all by learning from others with unfortunate experiences. I can also use this as a forum to help me decide which sponsors to promote more actively, and which ones to terminate. |

This thread is a great idea. One of my biggest drawbacks to purchasing on-line is not knowing if the company is reputable. Giving out my credit card number to some unkown entity is a bit scary.
So far I do have experience with Ebay and I have been pleased. Got some very unique gifts that I couldn't have found anywhere else. It is buyer beware as each transaction is with the seller and not ebay itself, but they have a nice buyer/seller feedback where you rate the transaction, so you get some degree of confidence from that.

I've had some good experience at Amazon.com, and like some of the others, if someone links from your site and purchases a product in the same session you will get something from that.
Ebay's been a common site for me as well--too bad you don't get a commission from them, as you would probably have no cash flow problems with the number of gurupies (including myself) that bid on Ebay!

I think the nabiscoworld site is kind of cool. I registered to win and it tool me to a site with some games on there. has a virtual 9 hole golf game that gives you a chance to win a Casio PV-400 Plus Palm Size PC. (drawing from best 75 scores). Also another golf driving game. Haven't played them yet. Have to use my other computer with shockwave installed.
My last attemp at registering with coupons.com still says the site is under reconstruction.

Guru, I hooked up with one of your sponsors and have found the site to be extremely useful - MyCiti.com. It takes a little bit of trust to log in all your credit card, banking, investment and email accounts (just to name a few), but now I use that site to access all my accounts and also have started paying several of my bills on-line. To summarize, I think they are a very worthwhile sponsor.

Guru,
Just bought a computer last night from Dell, linking through your Sponsors Page. However, there was no tracking number in the URL, and they did not ask me for any referral web page information. How can I be sure that you are getting "credit" for the purchase?
Anyone else who is interested in getting a new (or refurbushed) computer and kind of know what you want already, I highly recommend the Dell site. You can customize your computer, and they give you prices for the different options right up front in an easy-to-use interface. For example, I got a new monitor for my current computer a few months ago, so I clicked on the "Video Ready, no Monitor" button which (up front) told me that I'd save $160. Simple to use--almost too simple!

Thanks for the alert, PD.
The commission was credited on Sunday. So the system works!
I've had good success (knock an wood) with online buying at the Dell site as well. My current desktop is a Dell that I bought last spring, and my son bought a laptop last summer (to take to college).

Got a great price on a camcorder battery from Batteries.com, and received it in less than a week with standard shipping. Excellent shopping experience in my book.

if There is any way that you can get 1800 Contacts as one of your sponsors, that would be awesome. I have had a wonderful experience purchasing from them. Their contacts are about half the price you'd pay most any where else- and shipping is Free and arrives within 3-5 days! (just get the prescription from your doc and order online instead of through your doctor. Its the same brand and you cut out the middle man)
and please hang onto that textbooks at cost website.. I'm gonna need it before every semester begins. Including the Summer term. Every college student should check it out.

You can still access the sponsor page. The link is also in the second menu above, as well as in the upper left on the blurb page.
