I've added a new link just below the message text area which will create and format an HTML text link and insert it at the end of the message text.

It is a JavaScript program, so you'll need to have JavaScript enabled to use it.

When you click on the link, you will first be prompted for the target URL. You can copy the URL from another browser window into this prompt.

Next, you'll be prompted for the text to appear as the link. You can copy the URL itself if you wish, but (especially if it's a long one) something like "Click here" might be more appropos.

Once you click OK, the html code for the link will be added to the end of your message. If you create the link just when you need it, then it will be right where you want it. You can then continue to add to the message - or move the link to some other position.

For those who are fluent in HTML links, this is not a big deal. For those who are HTML-challenged, this should give you the courage to include your external references as links, rather than as addresses.

Shoot, even WAB should be able to figure this out!

BTW, this feature will not appear on previously created threads. However, for those threads, you will be still able to use it on the review page (the page which gives you a chance to edit your message).

I think we've just discovered a new technology term -- "WAB proof"! LOL.

Thanks, Guru. I've always gotten tired of typing the whole link HTML stuff . . .

Thanks Guru, I never can remember the format without looking. Is it possible to add in the Target="_blank" to open a new window? I think a lot of us prefer that. thanks.

I suppose that's a good idea.

I usually just use the right mouse button to open a link in a new window, so leaving out the target gives me more flexibility (i.e., let's me choose where to open the link). But for most people, I suspect they just click.

I'll add the new window code, and we'll see if anyone balks.
