0 Subject: Thread Rating

Today, I noticed that someone thought it was funny to go through and rate all the threads a 1.
I had been thinking about this the other day and thought this would be a good time to bring it up. With board monitors now and such, to delete threads of no importance and monitor behavior... Is the rating system a real necessity?

To me it's just a tool for people to be rude and ignorant to others, and basically just encourages a bad karma for the boards participation. And im sure it's not related to any specific age catagory, as kids, teenagers, adults of all age can be ignorant.

I believe from the titles of each thread, people can determine on their own if they want to read what's inside the thread or not. And it takes usually seconds to just open the thread, read the first line or two to know if you want to pursue interaction within it.

I don't personally think it's a practical tool...

Unless I counted wrong, there is 50 threads on the first page... The average rate per thread is like 4. So I added up 1232 post on the first page, so what's that, .3% of the time someone leaves a rating?

And for those who are going to say, well I sort my threads out by the ratings system. That seems to be ridiculous thing to do, based on that statistics of people rating threads. Your putting your interest in the hands of 4 people per thread.

Anyways, just my 2 cents... Like I said, just think it promotes negativity.

Yeah, I would guess not too many people sort by rating. Can you get stats for that? Most people use it as a form of protest if a questionable candidate gets elected Guru Jr. or something...

I know this is an old thread, but why start a new one if you just want to echo the original thought? Rarely do I see a bad post with a "1" rating. Instead, I see the feature being used as an anonymous way to "dis" another poster. If we can't get rid of ratings, how about a feature to show who rated a thread by user ID or only being able to rate a thread when posting a reply?

It really was me that went through and gave each thread a 1 that time. And yes, I did think it was funny.

I'm awaiting the book. How to go from a donor to a dude in 5 short years.

And we should ditch the ratings.
