WOW! has anybody else seen that powerade commercial that shows all kinds of tremendous sports feats. The commercial brought a question to arise in my mind, Can Michael Vick really throw a football 170 yards in the air? Honestly, that would be the greatest sports feat I have ever seen!

Rotogurupies, do you have anyother sports feats like this that are comparable to that of Vicks, if it is in fact real. If you do I would like to know what it is!

I'm not positive but I think if Vick threw a ball 170 yards that it would probably be the last one he ever threw. There is no way he'd screw around like that for a commercial....a guy could totally strain/tear/tweak his arm in that manner.

(haven't seen the commercial)

Have you seen the other powerade commercial where the guy catches a baseball and runs right through the outfield wall. That one is pretty crazy too!

I was also wondering about the commercial. I know the baseball one is true cause I saw the highlights for it before on those america's funniest video's type of thing. Because that is true it makes me wonder about the 170 yard throw. It's hard to imagine though that it's true.

The newest Powerade commercial shows the ball from throw all the way through to landing well up in the stands. It looked pretty real to me. Then again, so did the basketball player jumping over the car in the Reebok commercial until you slowed it down and noticed that he inexplicably didn't have a shadow...

The commercial is fake. I've been in this discussion before, and all you have to do is read the disclaimer at the beginning(or is it the end..I forget) of the commercial.

I have never seen this disclaimer, but it is hard to imagine that he threw a football 170 yards. Who does he think he is, Achilles, son of the goddess Thetis. I think not.

Come on guys. That is biomechanically impossible. Like CP said. If someone could throw that far, it would destroy every ligament and tendon in their shoulder.

Yeah, but the commercial is still pretty sweet. I remember they said jeff george had a "freak" arm that could throw it 70 yards, so therefore I put forward to you all, my rotogurupie compatriots, that there is some sort of hoax, the devils are powerade are trying to dupe us with.

I'm sure he has a strong arm; maybe 120-130 yard throw. 170? No way.

BTW, Walter Payton could throw the ball 100 yards, and did so a few times in practice just fooling around.

In order for me to believe that ANYONE could throw a ball 100 yards, I'd have to actually see it. 120? 130? No way! 170? Can't be done. Michael Jordan could throw a football 75 yards in the air mostly due to the size of his hands. I've heard of guys throwing it 90, but that's probably about the max.

Does anyone remember the name, Dieter Brock? He graduated from Jacksonville State in 1974 and spent most of his career in the CFL before finishing up in the NFL with the rams (i believe). Brock had one of the strongest arms of all time and would regularly warm up by throwing weighted footballs, from a kneeling position, through the goal posts from the 35 yard line. He was capable of throwing the ball from endzone to endzone on the cfl field -- which is actually 110 yards long.

Ive never seen anyone throw the ball further (not that it would be impossible, just that i havent seen it...).

Anyhoo, just a piece of trivia...

PD -

Not only could Peyton throw the hell out of the ball, but if my knowledge of football lore fails me not, he could also punt the hell out of the ball.

Rumor has it that Walter could tote the ball a little too. RIP.

I'm sure Mr. Sludge means Payton and not Manning, although I hear Manning can throw well also

In referance to post #8 I just saw the commercial and was looking out for a disaclaimer...There is none !! The only thing it says is that Powerade does not increase strength.

I went to the QB challenge in Orlando a couple of years ago and don't remember anyone throwing a ball over 85 and I believe it was Kordell Stewart that had the longest with like 83 yards.

The farthest I've seen is Randall Cunningham reaching close to 90 a few years back (when he was still an Eagle I believe)….the commercial got my 6 yr. old son pumped up to practice some throws though. He thinks it's possible to throw it out of the stadium like Vick did. I'll tell him the truth when he's older……… ;)

What happened to that first post.

Elway threw a ball that far, but it was the vortex. One of those weird footballs with a tail. That was Elway throwing. I doubt anyone could throw a regular football 170 yards. You would have seen him throw something crazy like that at Tech. Atlanta would put him in for every Hail Mary play.

Cunningham had the strongest arm in those QB challenges a few years back, he only beat 80 yards by a few inches though. 170... no way.

Saw a quaterback challenge made-for-tv show several years ago. They were all throwing in the 80-85 yard range; maybe 90. Nobody thew 100 that I remember. The contestants included Vinne, Bledsoe, Aikman, etc. Wonder how far JR Richard could have thrown a football.

I remember hearing about Elway when he was in college could stand at home plate and throw the ball over the left field wall at like 310 ft. away. Not a baseball, a FOOTBALL. That's over 100 yds and going over an 8 ft. wall.

I for one do not believe the 170 yd. throw is possible. YET !! But with the increasing size and strength of players you have to wonder about the possibilities. I still can't believe the size of Culpepper at QB - Amazing!!
