I'll copy over the old forum thread on ideas for next season's pickoff game. Let's continue it here.

Congrats to Sludge, who has clinched the title.

Before everyone forgets, I'd like to hear ideas for possible rules changes for next year's game. I have a few ideas, but rather than planting seeds, let me just open up this thread for your ideas first.

It was a fun game Dave. The only thing I can think of is to have the percentages hidden until game time. This would eliminate the system pickers (myself and sludge to name two) from using a system and get us all back to just picking who we think will win. Thanks , MikeMaz (MAZMATAZZ)

Maz - If you do that, then you basically make the game just like any pick 'em game.

Not really Sludge , you'd still get credit for the percentages , it would just take a little more skill to figure where they would end up instead of already knowing.

I loved the game and look forward to playing next season.

A few thoughts to kick around.

- Lock each of the games at their individual start times.
- Give us a "best bet" selection. We can pick one game a week where we would get or lose triple points and one at double.
- Build a menu option pointing to a page listing the high scorers each week.

This would be nice, if a sponsor would kick in.

Jeff - I think there could a problem with not locking in the games until their respective start times: Guru would have to lock out the ability to view each others picks until it was all over.

I also like the triple and double point bonus idea.
I do not support final locks at kick off times... usually difficult to combine family activities on Sunday am with the time required for injury research.

I like the game as is, frankly. Once I got the hang of it I got much better (in spite of my 0-2 weekend!) I wouldn't change anything.

Wait, I lied: I would like to see dynamic percentage changes, but I think that might make the whole thing very slow. This is a wish list, no?

Great game.

Keep showing the pick percentages as that adds a unique aspect to the game.

Great game, guru!

1. I don't like the 4 freebees. Pick every game!

2. You have to work on the scoring. You kinda get bogged down in the 500 bonus et al. There has to be a way to keep everyone positive without the bonus. Off the top of my head - double the winner's and zero the loser's percentage. Not the same game, but still rewards the risk taker.
I Just require a more one-directional race to enjoy the competition. Maybe it's just me!

The 50-point bonus is way too high. 10 points would suffice.

I still like the idea of a progressive bonus which I floated a long time ago. 1 point for the first game, 2 for the second...all the way up to 15 or whatever. The maximum bonus would equal the number of games played on the week with the fewest byes in the season, therefore giving players a freebie on weeks in which more than that were played.

Just some comments on what others contributed to this thread:

- I am not in favor of hidden percentages, seeing the percentages is key.
- Scoring seems to be a common cause of confusion. How about drop the bonus or wimp penalty but make each game picked yield a positive score. Base the plus/minus from 100. For example in a 60%/40% spilt if the 60% team wins, those picking the winner get 140 (100+40) points, those picking the loser get 60 (100-40). If the 40% team wins those correct get 160, incorrect 40. This would still yeild the same results relative to the other competitors. If you want to still allow a no-pick option, they would get 100 points on a game bypassed. If an entrant does not have at least 10 games picked, treat it like an invalid roster and award zero points for the week.

O.k., I got it, there will be no more testing. Sorry for using an old thread. I realize I should have just started my own, and marked it "testing" ro something. Hope I have not offended anyone. Thank you for being patient as I learned a new skill.
