It's time for ESPN's annual foray into the wondrous world of Mel Kiper, Jr.'s hair products.

ESPN's NFL Draft First Round Forecast

Gurupies and their friends interested in outsmarting Mel and his gel are welcome to join the private group BBC Regs on a Raft; the password is steroids.

Lock Time: Saturday, April 24 at 12:00 p.m. ET

Scoring: Points are awarded based on the accuracy of your selections. Maximum points are awarded for players correctly selected in the correct order position in which they are drafted. For correct picks in the wrong position, points awarded will get incrementally smaller, based upon how close the participants' selected order position is to the actual order position of the 2004 NFL Draft. If a participant's selection is correct, 32 points are awarded. If a participant's selection is one position away from the actual pick -- in either direction -- 16 points are awarded. Two positions away win eight points, etc. This holds true for all selections within your top 15, even if the pick falls outside the top 15. For example, if the player in your 14th position is drafted 18th, you would receive two points. Participant selections that do not appear within the top 15 are awarded no points. Points are awarded based on actual draft position in which players are selected and not by the team that drafts them.

Points are awarded as follows:
32 pts -- correct pick
16 pts -- 1 pick off
8 pts -- 2 picks off
4 pts -- 3 picks off
2 pts -- 4 picks off
1 pt -- 5 picks off
0 pts -- 6+ picks off

Prizes: 1st place: 20" LCD flat panel TV (ARV $1,400.00); 2nd place: digital camera (ARV $245.00)

For more information, including eligibility requirements, check out the official rules.

Have to laugh at this one:

I selected Detroit with the sixth pick to grab Roy Williams, then Cleveland would select Kellen Winslow with the seventh pick.

Right guys to the right teams, wrong pick numbers...ugh.

I had the ones right that the majority had, but forgot to clean it up and take Williams off. Was impressed by the overall winners. They only missed one.

I did well but missed 3 big ones, I ad Ben going at number 4 and rivers at 11, switched those 2 around, and I put tommie harris to the falcons at 8.
"When I was in the fourth grade, I was kind of fat, (and weighed) something like 155 pounds. And I was playing in a league where the (weight) limit was 150 pounds. So I put myself into a trash bag, ran around in it, figuring that I would lose weight by sweating it off. It didn't work, though, because my mother found out. She thought I was crazy and made me stop." -- Oklahoma defensive tackle Tommie Harris, at the combine, when asked how much he loves playing football

Gotta love this guy

Mel Kiper did the same thing - switched the 2 QBs and made only one other mistake. If you'd followed his mock draft, you'd have been 99 percentile.

I'd rather be right on the teams they go to than the slots they are picked at... :)

The 2005 version of this game is now available for sign-ups:

ESPN's HUMMER H3 Draft Forecast

Private group name is the same (BBC Regs on a Raft); the new password is irrelevant.

Lock Time: Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 11:55 a.m. ET

Basic Game Rules (these have changed):

The objective of the game is to accumulate the most points by selecting the correct order in which five U.S. college football players will be drafted within three specific position groups. The three position groups will be:

• QB Group – Quarterbacks
• Skill Group – Running Backs / Wide Receivers / Tight Ends
• D Group – Defensive Players

You will select five college football players for each of these position groups and your score will depend on how closely your selections match the real NFL Draft selections. Players who are drafted into positions that do not fall into one of the three categories above are not a part of this game. (Remember, these are ranks within a particular position, not overall in the draft.) Answer the tie breakers in case of, well, a tie.

Scoring:

You receive one point if one of your selected players is drafted as one of the top five players in that position group. For example, if you select player X as your second running back to be taken and he is drafted as the fourth running back you receive one point. Additionally, you receive three bonus points for correctly guessing the order in which that player is taken amongst his respective position group. For example, if your entry has player X slotted to be drafted first in his respective position group, and player X is taken by a U.S. professional football team first in his respective position group, then your entry will receive three bonus points. This will apply to any slot in your top five choices for all position groups. The maximum amount of points an entry can earn will be sixty points, where each player (fifteen total), if correctly picked, will accumulate four points each. You do not receive or lose points for incorrect picks.

Prizes: (caps courtesy of ESPN)

1st Place: 20" LCD Flatpanel TV, HUMMER CD/Radio player, HUMMER jersey; Total 1st Place ARV: $1557
2nd Place: 13" LCD Flatpanel TV, HUMMER/CD Radio player, HUMMER jersey; Total 2nd Place ARV: $757

I am in again this year. BBC Regs on a Raft is da bomb! ;)

I already set up my selections and don't think I like this format as much as the previous years. This seems easier and I bet whoever wins it, picks them perfect and wins on the tie-breaker.

Here we go again ...

ESPN's 2006 NFL Draft First Round Forecast

Private group name is the same (BBC Regs on a Raft); the password for 2006 is wonderlic.

Locktime: Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11:55 a.m. EDT

Back to the simplified scoring!
(copied and pasted from the game site)
Points are awarded based on the accuracy of the selection. Maximum points are awarded for players correctly selected in the correct order position in which they are drafted. For correct picks in the wrong position, points awarded will get incrementally smaller, based upon how close the entrant's selected order position is to the actual order position of the Draft. If an entrant's selection is correct, thirty-two (32) points are awarded. If an entrant's selection is one (1) position away from the actual pick — in either direction — sixteen (16) points are awarded. This holds true for all selections within your top fifteen (15), even if the pick falls outside the actual top fifteen (15). For example, if the player in your 14th position is drafted 18th, you would receive two (2) points. It is important to note that points are awarded based on actual draft position and not by the team that drafts the player.

Points are awarded in the following manner:
Correct Pick = 32 pts
1 Pick Off = 16 pts
2 Picks Off = 8 pts
3 Picks Off = 4 pts
4 Picks Off = 2 pts
5 Picks Off = 1 pt
6+ Picks Off = 0 pts
