0 Subject: Semi OT: Getting around a firewall

I am trying to download a drafting utility for a draft tomorrow night and our firewall here won't let me do it. What recourse do I have?

Ah, I wish it were that easy :) I can probably do it when I get home, but I'll have to zip it and break it up and shuffle floppies, etc... I can't remember the file size :( It would be nice if I could just grab it here after school or tomorrow morning with the laptop I'll be using at the draft.

I'm blocked for the most part at work as well bro, so I empathize. If the file is small enough, someone who is not blocked can download it and e-mail it to you. Someone at home, or with freedom on the job.

In the end I may try emailing it to myself and grabbing it tomorrow morning. I thought I'd throw it out there. I figure I'm doomed, but perhaps there's an alternative. I don't have much time left to worry about it since my plan period is pretty much over.

If the Utility was Excel based, you could "open" it from the website, and then after it is open in Excel you could save it via "save as." It the Utility is actual software, and you were blocked in your attempt, I got nuthin'.

Ender, I might be able to grab it for you if you want.

If the firewall blocks all downloading of large files direct from the Internet, the email might be a workaround. If it's just blocking that site, I can probably move the file to an unblocked site and see if you can download from there.

If you work in a populous area, you can usually use a wi-fi adapter to connect to someone else's access point to circumvent a firewall . . . if your office isn't sophisticated enough to track you down and fire you. USB plug-ang-play adapters can be had for $10-$20 on ebay.
