Matt Leinart wins with 1325 points
Peterson and white both with over 950 points.
I didn't think Leinart would win after the last regular season game. But after the Oklahoma game, I thought there would be a chance that White and Peterson would split votes, giving Leinart the award, which is what happened.
Anyone out there with an unbiased opinion of who should have won? |

I am a USC fan and think White should have won it over Leinart if those were the only two candidates. My real vote would have gone to J.J. Arrington who lost out on the Doak Walker award as well. Arrington, Benson, Peterson, White, and then Leinhart would be my top five. I like Alex Smith, but think I would put him in the same group as LeFors and Jacobs.

Even though White's numbers were slightly better than Leinhart's I think Leinhart should've won just due to the fact that there has been 1 guy win the trophy twice. That guy was Archie Griffin, and I'm sorry but Jason White is no Archie Griffin. So I'm fine with it, kudos to USC and OU for great seasons.

I also think Leinert deserved it. IMO, White has better talent around him. (after you realize that Bush and Peterson cancel each other out)
I think Reggie Bush would've been my #1 choice for the Heisman though.

I think the whole argument about White not being as good as Archie Griffin is hilarious and pathetic at the same time.
If the rules for voting don't say "It should be harder to win the second time" (which I'm 100% sure they DO NOT), then why does that keep coming up? Just vote for the best college football player based on what happened this season. Come on with this "White shouldn't win twice in a row because he's not on a par with Griffin." Bull$hit. If White was clearly the best this season, he should have won. I don't know enough about it to have a favorite, but I hate hearing stupid, logically flawed arguments.
Besides that, I'm still pissed that the best QB in the SEC wasn't chosen for the first or second team All-SEC. Obviously sportswriters are morons.

J, I am a Bush fan but he didn't have the numbers these other guys did. As far as your comment that White has better talent around him, we will find out on January 4th.
MC, Jason Campbell didn't make All-SEC? ;) Seriously, if you are talking about Leak, he is at best third behind Campbell and Greene.

Well I live in the land of the Sooners (and favor NO OK teams) and let me say THANK THE LORD White did not win the Heisman for the 2nd time. Agree with post 2!!!! I think White's last 2 games last year had a lot to do with his 3rd place finish this year.
I think Peterson (like Fitzgerald last year) was the best player in the nation, but see where that gets you???
That said, Peterson will be on the cover of EVERY magazine next year and will have more hype than any player in the nation. If he isn't injured, I see no way he doesn't win the Heisman. He is an amazing talent and with Thompson/Bomar stepping in for White the offense will still be explosive.

weren't people saying the same thing about Maurice Clarett?
Adrian Peterson may have had a great year, but dont go penciling next year's heisman with his name on it just yet. I'd put my money on some guy most of us have probably never heard of as of right now.

Peterson and Leak will finish 1-2 for the Heisman next year. Don't know the order though.

IMO, and sure maybe i'm a little biased against Chris Leak, but I think he is totally over-rated. He has not yet impressed me, and I just think he's too small.
KTx - in my NCAA 2005 dynasty, I think Booty finished in the top 3 for the Heisman when he finally started!

Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of the voting? Thanks.

Now, TB, don't even get me started on the RB vote. Faison was clearly the best RB in the conference, but that wasn't enough to be honored, I guess.
Turns out the coaches vote, not the media. Idiots.

I'll let KKB take on that argument. Statistically Fason had the most yards rushing, but Williams and Brown split carries all year, and Brown averaged over 6 yards a carry
Player..... YPC.....YPG....TDs Fason......5.72...106.6...10 Williams...5.02....92.0...12 Brown......6.08....76.8....8
Fason's stats are definitely better than what I thought they were. I'd be interested to see receiving stats, but I can only see the top 10 in the SEC.
Williams did also have 20 punt returns for 234yds, I dont think Fason returned kicks so I dont know if that gets measured into this choice.
Wow - Auburn only returned 14 kickoffs all year! (Florida had 25)

Well that's my opinion, those aren't the rules. It shouldn't be "harder" to win it a second time, but in my super duper biased opinion without looking at things from two sides...I don't think he should've won the heisman twice because he is Jason White.

Crap, I just read that Ciatrick Fason is going to go into the NFL draft.
Well, it's not like UF ever lacks for a running game. I was just hoping to see him play as a senior and compete for the Heisman (maybe). I guess we'll see him playing on Sundays in the not too distant future. I have no idea if he'll make a good NFL running back. His reasoning was that he's married with 2 kids, and he needs to start earning a living.
