Gridiron Challenge

This is a "hard" salary cap game. Rosters consist of eight positions plus one defense/special teams. You have until the the first kickoff of each week's games for each roster slot to determine your lineup. At that time, whatever combination of players you have on your roster will be the players who accumulate points for the week, provided the total roster salary value is below the salary cap limit. Scoring begins with the first week of the NFL season.

Did anyone else notice that Frisman Jackson is listed as a QB instead of a WR in this game? 4.3 bucks for a guy who got targeted 10 times last week and scored 18 points, which is tied for 7th among "QB's".

I had to sell Culpepper to upgrade at RB. By getting Frisman, I got the deluxe upgrade to Tomlison. I suppose if he gets one catch for 8 yards next week it will serve me right.

You dummy. You know Frisman Jackson has been around for years and never done shtick. Why would that be anything other than a fluke? You'll get yours for that.

I'll trade him to you in Exit42 (after I claim him off waivers) for anyone on your roster.

The 2006 versions of the above free games are in the process of being launched. The group name and password are the same; the links have not changed.

As of August 10, 2006, College Pick'em, Pigskin Pick'em, and Gridiron Challenge are up and running. I'll organize groups for the remaning games as they become available.

ESPN's 2006 College Bowl Mania is now accepting entries. This is a FREE game.

Official Rules and How to Play

Very abbreviated copy 'n' paste version for those who won't bother to read the Official Rules, How to Play, or Prizes sections (all spelling, grammar, punctuation, and content errors are the exclusive intellectual property of ESPN):

Making Your Selections: Pick the winner of each game and predict the final team scores of the National Championship game. To pick a winner, simply select the button next to the team you believe will win a particular bowl game. You then must assign a confidence value to each bowl game. The higher the confidence you assign to a bowl game, the more points you will earn if you have selected the winning team. Each game must have a different confidence value assigned to it from 1 to 32. To predict the final team scores of the National Championship game (which is also the tiebreaker game), enter your predictions in the fields designated as "Score Guess."

In order to maximize the opportunity to accrue the most points, register and submit your entry no later than the first kickoff of the first game of the college football bowl season (December 19, 2006 at 8:00 p.m.). You will not be able to make selections for bowl games that have already ended, nor will you earn any points for those games.

Locktime: The game will institute a "Rolling Lock" for the first nine games of the 2006-2007 U.S. collegiate football bowl season. During the Rolling Lock, beginning with the first bowl game scheduled for December 19, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. in San Diego through the ninth bowl game currently scheduled for December 27, 2006 at 8:00 p.m., each game will lock at its scheduled game time, and you won't be able to make a selection for any game that has already locked. Following the completion of the Rolling Lock, the game will completely lock upon the scheduled game time of the tenth game of the 2006-2007 U.S. collegiate football bowl season currently scheduled for December 28, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. in Orlando, FL; your picks for the remaining bowls must be submitted, received and recorded by that scheduled locktime. Selections submitted after the deadlines are considered invalid.

1st Place Prize: 20" Flatscreen TV (ARV: $1,100) and KFC Tailgate Party (ARV: $400)
Runner-up Prize: Air Hockey Table (ARV: $499)

What's Different, But Not Necessarily Better: New to the 2006-2007 Bowl Mania game is the ability to join up to three different groups with the same entry. In the past, participants were allowed to create three different entries, but this season ESPN has added functionality to allow entrants the ability to compete in different groups while using their original picks. Whose brilliant idea was this?

Good luck, and happy holidays!
