Overall, I honestly think this was the most poorly played Super Bowl I can remember. Through much of the game, it seemed as if neither team really gave a damn one way or the other. Lots and lots of mental mistakes (False Starts, Offensive Holds) always it seemed, at critical times.

Commercials....One I liked, wasnt much of a production at all. The Dancing with the Stars where they flashed the words, "Wardrobe Malfunction?"...."You Wish".

Top 2 (toss up between them)

The Budweiser Clydesdale colt with the two adult Clydesdales pushing the wagon, and the "Streaker Lamb".

Next, would come the Fed-Ex prehistoric one, where the guy kicks the baby dinosaur after he gets fired.

Last on the list, at the very bottom, was the first to be aired. The BK "Whopperettes".

My favorite was the Bud Light "Magic Fridge."

Game was boring as crap. And the refs sucked.

The last 90 secs of the first half and the last 60 of the 2nd half, were the single worst played 2 1/2 minutes of football, I have ever seen.

The WWE was well represented in "godaddy" girl Candice and "dancing with the stars" siren Stacy...

One more FG by Seattle and I win the freakin work pool... why did they keep running plays?! why didn't they just kick a FG at the end?! why can't Stevens just get out of bounds there - and speaking of Jerramy "Hands of Stone" Stevens - if there was one time to actually drop it, a 2 yard gain with time running out - would have been it! why... why.. why.. :)

Alright, on to baseball now. Who's on the clock?

the FedEx dinosaur one, and the Sprint one that featured a "crime detterent" were my two faces. the image of the guy getting clocked in the head with a thrown cell phone had me rolling.

and the Bud one Sarge mentioned was very cute, and definitely memorable.

Lots and lots of mental mistakes (False Starts, Offensive Holds) always it seemed, at critical times.

According to this story (Link), there were an average of 4.1 holding penalties per game and an average of 3.31 false starts per game this year (through November, when the story was written). This season's Super Bowl featured a whopping FIVE holding penalties and an astonishing THREE false starts.

And what were the stats for these two teams? It would seem more relevant.

You answer an opinion about this Super Bowl (pitting the two best teams) having a lot of penalties with stats about all teams, good and bad, through the first half of the season.

Seems to me that we'd generally be looking at a higher number of penalties for all teams (especially just the first half of the season or so) than one would even just looking at the championship teams.

I loved the FedEx commercial. It was a nice combination of FarSide and Dilbert.

Alright PD -

Full season stats on offensive holding + false starts, including playoffs and Super Bowl:

Team n mean s Q1 Q3
Pitt 20 2.55 1.91 1.00 3.75
Sea 19 3.16 1.98 2.00 5.00

This includes the Super Bowl. If you don't like that:

Team n mean s Q1 Q3
Pitt 19 2.58 1.95 1.00 4.00
Sea 18 3.00 1.91 2.00 4.25

* Note - This includes all penalties, whether accepted by the opposing team or not.

For the Super Bowl, Pittsburgh had 0 holding and 2 false starts, for a total of 2. Seattle had 5 holding and 1 false start for a total of 6. Seattle is a bit above the norm, and is their second highest all season, but they had 7 total in week 5 and 5 total in weeks 2, 7, and 12.

Thanks, Sludge. I didn't realize that they kept track of non-accepted penalties.

The game was in a dome with a louder-than-usual crowd, so it's realistic that false starts could be up.

Magic Fridge easily takes the cake and I also like the FedEx one.

My first thought on the replay of Big Ben's disputed TD was that he probably got but you couldn't argue with a call by a ref in fast motion either way.

Apparently I was wrong because lots of people argued that it was a bad call and he didn't get in.

With technology, it was only a matter of time before someone would still frame the play at Ben's farthest point.

You can see that here:

When watching the game, I thought he crossed the plane and was knocked back before he hit the ground, but that picture is horrible. It doesn't prove he got in. Look at the angle. Just imagine shifting the camera to the right.

But TB, what the picture does show, and the caption states, is that had the call been the other way originally, that couldnt have been overturned by replay either. IOW, the play was so close, no way of over-ruling the call on the field.

TB,

IMO, the camera angle looks ever so slight to the left of the goal line. This angle would make it look less likely that he got in. If you shift the angle to the right or in front of the goal line, it would like look he got in very easily.

It appears that the red line provided cuts the ball in half. Too bad the resolution isn't better.

because of the way the red line and goal line run through the picture, I personally think the camera is to the right of the goal line.

barilko6,

The red line goes from left to right (pick a fixed point on your computer screen and then scroll your screen. You will see the top of the red line is further left and the bottom is further right).

This can only happen if the camera is to the left of center. If it were to the right it would be opposite.

will wonders never cease. I'm agreeing with G$$ again. The camera angle, is from left of the goal line. (ie, looking out from within the endzone)

Sarge33rd,

Cmon, seriously dude. Take us out of the politics thread and I can't find a thread we don't agree on.

P.S...I am and always will be a Pittsburgh fan (all sports, always). I was born there. But, guess what? In addition to that, teams # 2 for me are the Vikings, Twins, Wolves and Wild.

We both enjoy FB, Golf, etc. We may be less different than we think. :0
