Subject: What the Favre???

Yesterday it was all over the news that Favre had something to say about his future. Reports like this were all over:
Update: Favre has scheduled an 8:30 am ET press conference Saturday to announce his plans for this season, the Associated Press reports.
and
"A spokeswoman for his family said a "scoop" was expected."
Then today Favre said: "The fact that we're sitting here today at this press conference, to me, is a joke because I don't have anything to tell you," Favre said. "Somebody assumed that I would."
Why is it was a "joke" the press showed up to his press conference when a spokeswoman for the family says she expects a "scoop"?

Note that they said A spokeswoman, not THE spokeswoman.
In other words, somebody said they were speaking for the family and expected there to be some sort of scoop. That good old fashioned "insider information" from Crazy Cousin Louise.
And is it really any surprise that the news outlets would take any Favre press conference and turn it into an announcement of his plans for the season when they've been desperate for the news for some time now? They do it so they can say, "See, we scooped it!" when it actually happens. And if it doesn't, like it didn't, then we'll all forget within a day or so that they ever said anything about the press conference.
It's like hurricane predictions. We only reference them when they're right. They're easily forgotten when they're wrong.

Favre is back.
Of course, I like The Onion's take on it.

Lets hope the Bears can put him out of his misery in week 1. Nobody wants to see 40 INT's, do they?

All the NFL DB's are licking there chops with the news of Favre coming back!
As a Packer Fan. A few months back I wanted him back but with all his delays, it has soured me a bit. Should I order my Matt Leinart jersey?

The problem with the Packers isn't Favre. It's that they don't have a defense.

They got Charles Woodson, it's a start.

Looks like they're gonna draft AJ Hawk.

Wouldn’t mind AJ I did get to see a few of his games. Looks like a solid player.
Has anyone watched much of Mario Williams? Keep hearing his name as well for the Pack.

They need Hawk, frankly. Their best defensive player (Sharper) now plays for the Vikes. I like Woodson (and with Al Harris they should do fine) they still give up a lot of yardage and big plays.

Would love to see GB get Williams but the way things look right now can't see any way he falls to 5. Hawk is a fine consolation prize. Any kind of playmaker on defense.
