Haven't found an awful lot of more info on this.

Does appear that USC has turned it all over to the Pac 10 to investigate.

Appears that Michaels is trying to get the money back from the family since Bush went a different route.

Not real clear if the Indians and Casino have a direct tie or not.

Surprised this hasn't gotten any interest.

I'm sort of wondering why "Yahoo Sports" was the lead investigative news agency on this story. It's a big deal if the accusations of impropriety are true. I couldn't find it on CNN.com. MSNBC.com has a report, but the way that story is written, Yahoo had a hand in breaking it.

I guess Yahoo is a reasonable investigative news service? At least in terms of resources? I almost never read Yahoo's news. I stick to the big guys.

Does Yahoo have a parent company that will not surprise me when I hear about it, like TIME-Warner or Viacom?

Sportsline and ESPN have the AP story. Yahoo is the main source for that article.

I was thinking of George W. Bush when I originally clicked on this thread. He screws everything else up, so why not

I was thinking this was something to do with the Prez, too, when I saw the thread.

We're just used to seeing his name up in lights all the time.

LOL - I figured the Bush girls had gotten drunk, stoned or laid again.

I too chuckled that "Yahoo sports" had uncovered this. While I suppose it's not quite Woodward and Bernstein, it seems to have legs.

Another breaking story just in "Grass is green.

Wow, you mean that the NCAA and colleges failed to detect student athletes getting improper benefits? Absolutely expected. It seems to be growing because Bush is expected to be the #1 pick and USC has had a great 3 year run.

If a reporter wanted, I would be willing to bet he could go to any almost big time football school and see athletes who are from poor famalies driving around town in new cars wearing "bling". Vince Young was quoted as saying that Texas players don't often leave early because they are treated like royalty around town. Are they getting improper benefits, probably. Didn't 2 Florida State players get busted for getting huge discounts on clothes?

It cracks me up that people are shocked that this might have happened.

Guess I should have said Reggie Bush Family.

Didn't think of it at the time.

Here is another link from the local San Diego news.

USC wants Pac-10 to review arrangement

Guess the big key here is that if it is true, USC will have to forfeit all the games he played in, and give back the Bowl Money.

And probably no impact on him at all.

You know, that would suck for USC. It's one thing if the school arranges that stuff (or, more accurately, they get caught arranging that stuff) - but he went out on his own to get that house from someone connected to a sports agent. It's not as if some USC booster/coach hooked him up. Is it the school's responsibility to watch out for EVERYTHING?

Yes, it is the school's responsibility for all of this.

Doesn't matter that they had nothing to do with it.

That was the side of this that I was looking at getting a discussion going on.

The school gets hammered and he sees no impact.

Now CBS Sports is talking about the Heisman Trophy being taken away from Reggie.

It just gets deeper.

Transcripts allegedly tie Bush to sports agency

And it looks like another USC player for sure involved and maybe more in other ways.

RE:13 I've heard that argument and the only difference I see is that OJ wasn't declared ineligible. If Bush is declared ineligible and his records and appearances vacated, how can he win the Heisman?

After reading GL's link, HOLY SMOKES!!! My guess is that he's going down. Well, not him, he'll be rich, but his school and perhaps his Heisman may be history.

Ref is refering to the link in 15.

Implicates Winston Justice and potentially other players from USC.

Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Limo rides with a Gang Banger.....good image for USC.

And it just keeps getting better and better.

Homeowner alleges Bush family paid no rent

The article in this morning's LA Times says even more than this one does.

It will be interesting if the the agent can provide communications that prove that Reggie was aware of the arrangement.

Did anyone else notice that the agent said he paid Bush and his family 300k? Even if rent was 10k/month, there is still almost 200k unaccounted for.

Does this change where Bush goes in the draft or how good of a pro he will be, not at all.

But, USC has to be scared #*&!less.

The LA Times article talks about a $3 Million law suit against Bush and the family and extortion claims by Bush's lawyer.

Really getting deep.

There is another article on Yahoo talking about $4500 a month rent.

They were supposedly in the house 20 Months, but that doesn't add up.

It blows me away to think that family members of the "best player in college football" and probably the most advertised player too, would agree to something like agreeing to take a "free" house. (I mean doesn't any sort or red flag go off?)

My first thought is, how common does this sort of thing happen? Did the Bush's see this type of treatment going on around the USC program already that they were just going to join the party? Maybe not with houses, but perhaps cars, limos, other comps and benefits. Maybe its more common than we think. Naturally this is simply speculation, but ya never know. I'm a student at MSU, and I know I like to think these sort of thing DO NOT occur here.

More on the bush situation.

That link talks about the NFLPA's assertion of extortion and more. Also how Bush is going to say that his parents moved in and started paying rent. couldn't afford it and was told don't worry about it.

Here is my best guess on what happened. Bush was offered all of this stuff. Agreed to it. Backed out. Told ok, then pay us 3.2 mil or we're going to OUT you about your illegal benefits starting with your parents and their house that will make you ineligible at USC. He didn't respond--thinking hey 3.2 mil is a lot of money and I'm heading to the NFL anyhow. Boom they leak the info about the house before the NFL draft to try and hurt his value. Now Bush shows the letters and says he's being extorted (which he is). But still, this doesn't look good for his eligibility for last year.

Re:21

This sort of things at most big time programs, both basketball and football. Coaches turn a blind eye on it. You have a kid from a poor background suddenly driving to practice in a brand new car should raise a question, but the coaches just ignore it.

Now this chump, Michael Michaels is saying that the Bush family owes $54,000 in back rent. Wonder if Bush can shut everyone up by giving that chump the rent money and letting this issue fade away?

Now Yahoo! and ESPN is reporting that not only did Bush's parents never pay rent (nor were asked to do so) these guys paid for Bush's parents to go to his road games.

Now the discussion is that USC could lose all 13 wins from 2004 and the 2005 Championship be recinded by the BCS.

BCS officials: Ineligible Bush could dethrone USC

Just gets worse and worse for USC.

It keeps getting worse. Now there is a letter shwoing that Bush's parents asked and received $100K. Also eludes to the fact that this was over the past two seasons and they were talking about adding USC to the settlement process!!!

A few random thoughts if these reports pan out to be true.

1) The NCAA needs to look at a different way to handle these situations. if true, USC and future USC teams/players are going to suffer cause Reggie & family broker rules.

2) If USC has to firfeit games/titles/bowls money, I'd love to see them file suit against bush for damages (millions). Even if it gets thrown out, I'd hope it would make future athletes think twice (defense lawyers ain't cheap).

3) I'd be willing to bet that 90% of all Div. I athelets in major sports get "special or extra benefits" -- it's all a matter of degree and amount. I think the NCAA should give up this naive notion of amateur athletics as the Olympics have done.

4) If Reggie forwent the 2005 draft to stay in school, he's a hypocrite for taking money. He must have felt "entitled" to the best of both worlds -- NCAA title shot and cash (pro).

5) In the case of a coach or employee of the university being involved, I agree on scholl penalties, but USC can't control meetings between the Bush familiy and gang-banging-agents-wanna-be's.

6) If I was a GM, this would make me questions the homies Reggie's gonna run with. Some guys just can never leave bad influences behind.
