Here's the link to the story.
This guy has been around for as long as I've been playing fantasy football and he was always a really steady fantasy receiver who I admired a good deal. He faced some tough times in his career, including strange ailments in his stomach and an addiction to cocaine, but when he played he was always at least good, and usually very good to outstanding.
I'll never forget this game against Baltimore in 2000 where apparently the Ravens forgot to cover J-Smith as he struck for 3 TD's of 40+ yards each. His line score that day was a sick 15 catches for 291 yards and 3 scores. Ugh! The nearly 800-point outing in the old Small World game ensured many players scooted up the rankings that week, while I and many others fell farther behind.
What a monster game that was. I'll never forget it. |

I just looked at that box score again. Almost as remarkable in that game was that Tony Freaking Banks threw for 5 TD's and a 2-pt conversion that day.
Maybe they used a magic ball?

When I read the news today I was trying to remember when the last season was that I didn't have him on at least one fantasy team. He always seemed to slip a bit on draft day, but minus the 2003 4-game suspension season, he was always good for 1000 yards and 6 to 8 TD's.

He was a good one. He always quietly put up good numbers.

I'm gonna miss seeing him on my fantasy teams. People always thought I drafted him too high each year, but when he produces 1000+ and 8 he was a good #2 reciever and it seemed he would slip to the 6th or 7th round each year. I'm not gonna miss him as a Colts fan. Seeing him torch our suspect secondary was never fun.
