Now that the managers for the 2006 RIFC have been announced, it is time to start forming qualifying leagues.
There will be two AAA qualifying leagues, and spots in those leagues will be reserved on a priority system. For those not eligible for a AAA league, one or more AA leagues will be formed, depending on interest and on finding commissioners.
As a preamble to soliciting interest in these leagues, let me recap the "expectations" that I sent out with RIFC Invitations this year:
1. You will actively manage your team throughout the regular season and the playoffs (if applicable).
2. You will regularly check the RotoGuru message forum to stay up to date on current league developments, during the preseason and the season.
3. You will make your best efforts to keep the draft moving along. If you have conflicts during the draft that will delay your responsiveness, you will make active use of queues or designated pickers to ensure that you do not hold up the draft.
4. You will post a timely, written rationale of each pick. Rationales are typically several sentences long, and posted with a 2-round lag.
5. You will provide an active email address to others in the league so that you can typically be reached daily. You agree to regularly check that email address during the preseason and the season, and to update league members if your email address changes. You will alert the others in the league if there are times that you expect to be unavailable or unreachable.
6. You will behave at all times in a respectful, cooperative manner.
It is not required that QL leagues post rationales for each pick - that is up to each league to decide. It is not required that kafenatid.net software be used for the draft, although I encourage it. Since last year, significant enhancements in queue capabilities have been added, and I am sure it will facilitate the smooth operation of your draft.
Each QL must select a Commissioner, and each must choose a site to host the league. The RIFC will most likely use Fanball once again. I know that last year, AOL offered a free version which was essentially a clone of the fanball system. I don't know if that option will be available again. Rules should generally be the same as those for the RIFC, but minor amendments may be made if the hosting system will not effectively support the RIFC rules. Again, each league should determine (in advance) which, if any, rules will deviate from RIFC rules.
Each league will have 14 teams, so we will need to fill 28 AAA slots. I recommend that the following priorities be used in filling those slots:
RIFC teams ranked 8-14 in 2005.
All AAA teams making the playoffs in 2005 (excluding the six teams who are advancing to the RIFC)
All AA playoff teams (excluding the winner, which is in the RIFC)
Teams finishing 9th and 10th in the AAA leagues.
I believe that this list identifies 28 teams (although one AAA team has already declined its RIFC invitation, so I assume it will also not participate in AAA either). I suggest that we form a "first-come, first-served" waiting list for any remaining AAA openings, open to any participants in last year's QLs (AAA or AA) who are not already on the priority list above.
This thread will be for you to indicate your interest in participating. Please post your handle, an email address, whether you qualify for one of the AAA priority slots, and whether you are willing to serve as a commissioner. Once we get two people to serve as AAA commissioners, they can begin to organize their individual leagues. Ditto for AA.
Please note that if you do not leave an email address, or if you leave one but do not check it, you may be skipped when leagues are eventually filled. Every year there are a few people who express interest early, but then fail to appear when the rubber meets the road. It is the responsibility of everyone who is interested to stay connected to the process. It is not the responsibility of Commissioners to use extraordinary means to reach anyone. While there is no immediate urgency, once spots become limited, you must be responsive.
Have I forgotten anything? Perhaps those involved in last year's league formation process can suggest other guidelines for making the process run as smoothly as possible.
count me in for AAA. fugazi is my brother. he's been asking me when sign-ups start for a couple weeks now, so count him in too.

if enough people drop out of AAA this year I'd like to reserve a spot for myself. I think a few people need to drop out since I finished 9th in the AA.
Interested. Finished 9th in AAA II so we'll see if a AAA slot gets down to me.

Toral - Unless I miscounted, 9th in AAA automatically gets you back in AAA.

I believe this is the list of the 28 automatic AAA qualifiers. Some are last year's team names, so we'll need help associating with a Gurupie handle.

Since Mike V has already declined an invitation to the RIFC, I'm guessing he's not interested in AAA either, so we'll probably need at least one extra team as well.

I have created a thread for AAA#1 Signups. You will need to signup in that thread (with e-mail address) in order to be invited to the league.
I am interested in a spot in one of the AA qualifying leagues. I have never played in RIFC.

Count me in for AAA 2
I will be gone for the next week and a half, so don't expect an immediate sign up.

I'm interested. I just missed the AA play-offs last year so I have an outside chance of getting a AAA spot, if not I'll play in a AA league.
I am definitely up for an AAA league this year. I guess it will have to be #2 as it seems #1 is full. Hopefully things go better than my RIFC experience last year :D
Please feel free to email me, as I may not check these forums regularly. Thanks.
I'll go ahead and take commish chair for AAA#2. I started a new thread here Please sign up on the new thread even if you are signed up here. I'll go by the priority list as laid out by Guru and then I'll start with folks who signed up on this thread first. But please sign up again on the new thread to be sure I don't miss you. russelldl
Guru, Are we going to have some sort of a limit on the AA signups or are we going to have it so that AAA #1, AAA #2, and AA offcasts from last year will have the first oppertunity to signup?

I think AA leagues should be open to anyone. First come, first served. No priorities. If one league fills, we can start another.

What do we need to do to get a AA league going? I'd volunteer to commish, but lately I've had some electrical fluctuations and my internet service is not reliable. Most recently, it was out for a 36 hour period of time, beginning Sunday evening. It's been very slow since I got it back and I don't trust it.
I've played the last couple of years as just Mike (Sandwich Statics) but feel it's probably easier to go by a board name.

All that is needed is a commish, who can then start a thread to recruit.

surprised no one has stepped up to commish AA yet. maybe someone who wants to play in AA should just start the AA thread so that people can start signing up. a commish would float to the top somehow.
ignore 58, meant to put it in the new thread. sorry.
