0 Subject: Weak Ass Keeper Question

Posted by: Species
- Leader [07724916] Mon, Aug 07, 2006, 18:22

Let the threads start.....

I'm in a 'home league' with my neighbor. Only 8 teams. Only 2 keepers. I finished dead last. Had Culpepper and McGahee as keeps and burned an early pick on Javon Walker. Ouch.

We actually use "Team QB", so Culpepper isn't even an option (nor should he be). I have no WR's to speak of. My 4 RB's are:

Willis McGahee
Rudi Johnson
Cadillac Williams
Kevin Jones

I could probably get Tiki Barber cheap off another team who will keep Manning and LT, and then draft from Fitzgerald, Moss, S. Smith and Harrison for my top WR.

What should I do? Say I just traded my 3.1 for someone's 3.8 to get Tiki. Enough of an upgrade over Cadillac/McGahee/Johnson to warrant it?

Who to keep if I do NOT make the trade?

Thanks.

Keep Rudi and Cadillac and draft from there.
Don't make the trade.

I agree. With only 8 teams you should have a good FA pool to fix any mistakes, but you really can't go wrong with those two RBs as your keepers.

When I saw the title and that Species had started it, I thought of the LOEG. Heh.

I'm the only one with that kind of Keepers in LOEG. :)

OK - another league. 12 teams. Exit 42/Fanball league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE (plus K and Def):

For sure keep: P. Manning, S. Jackson, T. Owens

Can choose 1 from:
Tatum Bell
Corey Dillon
Roy Williams
Jeremy Shockey

Thoughts? I draft 5th so if I let a RB go I can get a decent one in the draft.

Well, you have to let one of them go, right?

:)

I'd keep Bell. Dillon appears to be slowing down, and injuries to Shockey and Williams held them out of too many contests (and, in Shockey's case, his concussion already is a little troubling). Let someone else roll the dice on him.

PD - so this Mike Bell as starting RB stuff is just Shanahan's twisted form of motivation?

Naw Species, he means it, so throw Tatum Bell back in.

I do draft before you, right :)

That is just a coaching trick by Shanahan, to light a fire under the ass of Bell and Dayne. There's no way an undrafted rookie is going to start for Denver come week 1.

I didn't reply to your initial post because I completely agreed with Cliff and Fred. As far as your post #6, I think I like Roy Williams in that spot. As long as he can stay healthy, I am excited to see what he can accomplish in a Martz offense. Drafting in the 5th spot there will be some good RB options available. I guess it really depends on who is getting tossed back. If there are a few top WR options, then maybe you keep a RB. You only have to start 1 RB, 2 WR, and a RB/WR flex so having 3 top 20 WR would be fairly potent. I am fairly high on Shockey, but in fanball scoring we are talking 80-120 points from the top 10 TE's not named Gates. I don't have him outperforming the next 4-5 TE by more than a few points and I think the TE position is very deep this year.

I'm not going to argue about the Mike Bell thing, but I just don't see Shanahan going out of his way to try to motivate Tatum Bell, who was fine last year but for injuries, at the expense of crushing a young player's psyche.

Let's think back: Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, and plenty of other RB's that weren't first rounders (Droughns, Portis, Bell) have succeeded mightily in that scheme. It's not just a coincidence.

I'm not arguing for you guys to take Mike Bell in leagues you're in with me. But in the other leagues you play in, you might want to consider him!

On the serious side of things.
Wow, did I write that.

I agree with what MC said.

I see him as a mid to late round Hand-cuff to Tatum.

And knowing Shannahan, he will get x amount of PT.

MC: It isn't that the guy wasn't a first rounder. He wasn't even drafted.

After only a couple of weeks of camp to have an undrafted guy jump from fourth to first means nothing. This early in camp giving a rooking training time with the first team shouldn't mean that he's going to see much real game action.

Ron Dayne was drafted in the first round and he's a POS.

Being drafted isn't necessarily a mark of relevance when you are a RB on the Broncos.

I've said enough on this subject. I feel my abilities to grasp nuances of the NFL, while not wildly accurate or efficient, is as good as anyone else's and better than most. I'm confident in my prognosis. I've been wrong before and if I am this time, I'll admit it. I am not planning on that, however.

I think Shannarat is trying to lower the value for Tatum Oneil Bell so that he can scoop him up in the later rounds of his fantasy football draft.

After the first preseason game for the Donkeys, none of their running backs impress me. Mike Bell didn't look very fast on his cuts or hitting the hole.

I should have just kept posting instead of having back to back posts, but wanted to comment on the NE/Atlanta game. I watched the entire preseason game like it was a real NFL game. Both teams have some great young playmakers. I don't know if both teams are going to suffer bad rush defenses this year or if their rushing attack is just that good. I did see the graphic where Atlanta has had the best rushing attack for the last two years.

Just a couple notes on each team.

NE- Running game looked good. Offensive line is healthy and they looked crisp. Brady looked sharp and his back-up Cassell played pretty decent after a rough start. I think Dillon will do better than most people have him projected this year. As long as he stays healthy he will remain the starter and he should get the bulk of work inside the red zone and be a double-digit TD guy. Maroney looked great as well. Nice bursts of speed, good vision and technique. They will find ways to get him involved in the offense if he can keep it up. Cobbs looked pretty good running the ball too.

ATL- Running game also looked good. Warrick Dunn slips in every draft, every year but perhaps after his season last year that won't be the case this year. I doubt it. He will be excellant late round value if he falls. Duckett looked more comfortable running the ball than he did all of last year. He is a big back and is the thunder to Dunn's lightning. Speaking of lightning, Norwood looked great. See what I said about Maroney above and insert "ditto" right here. Nifty moves. I know it is just one preseason game, but he was exciting to watch. Everyone talks about how rookies have to get up to game speed when they transition to the NFL. He looked like he already made the transition. I have been high on Schaub to get a starting gig somewhere in the NFL and I wouldn't be surprised to see the Falcons trade him at some point this season if they can get the value they are looking for. He played well and has been good insurance in case Vick goes down with an injury, but I think Atlanta has a couple decent back-up options in Randall and Shockley. Vick is still the man, but all the back-ups did a pretty good job. If any of them don't make the roster I expect to see them scooped up by another team.

The Pats need Branch in camp. IMO, the Falcons offense would almost be unstoppable if they had a legit #1 receiver in the line-up. Jenkins looked pretty good, but he fooled me last preseason too. I would apologize for rambling, but my back is killing me and I can't sleep.

You should start a new thread, TB. Maybe something like "Pre-season game insights" where anyone who watched a game can post their opinions, and we can have these sorts of discussions.

Here is a freak pre-season injury!!!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Of all the problems the New Orleans Saints have faced in the past year, no one could have imagined their woes would be compounded by a reckless driving mascot.

"T-Rac," the Tennessee Titans' raccoon-like mascot, hit Saints quarterback Adrian McPherson with a golf cart as he walked onto the field for the second half Saturday night, bruising him and knocking him out of New Orleans' 19-16 victory in the teams' exhibition opener.

"He got run over by the mascot," coach Sean Payton said. "I don't know what to do. We've got to play the Titans. The mascots and all the other stuff going on, it's crazy."

OK - I kept Rudi and Cadillac in the league referred to in the original post of this thread. I have the first pick. It's a keeper league, although we only keep 2 players annually. I'm trying to decide between Torry Holt and Larry Fitzgerald. I'd imagine Holt is superior for this year, but Larry could be "the Man" for many years to come.

Thoughts?

With only two keepers, I would always keep two stud RB. I would draft the guy you think will score most this year. I do like Fitz to score about the same as Holt this year, if not more. Heck, take Fitz.

OK, let's take this back to Exit 42.
My second team is in a keeper league I just joined.
Live draft tonite.
My 5 Keepers are:
Peyton Manning
Deuce McAllister
Dominic Rhodes
Antwaan Randle El
Seattle Seahawks

Not surprisingly, I have the first pick in the draft.
This is a 14 team league.

First Two rounds are worst to first, and then it goes to a snake.

Now for the questions?

RBs available -
Dominick Davis
Reuben Droughns
Warrick Dunn
Willie Parker
Tatum Bell

etc.....

WRs available -
Larry Fitzgerald
Darrell Jackson
Donald Driver
Plaxico Burress

and I don't care about the rest.

Options as I see them are to take:
Reggie Bush to tie to Deuce
Joseph Addai to tie to Rhodes

Or just go the Fitz route.

Am I missing anything.
Gut instinct is Bush even though I can't stand him.

I think all of your conclusions are right on Cliff.....I see no choice but to go with Bush. Just too explosive not to invest in - especially in a 14 team league.

But couldn't see any other option.
