Is this for real or is this just an extremely overexageration and the press just looking for the "Major" injury of the preseason? I saw it and I saw him on the turf for a few minutes but he got up on his own power. So who knows?

A copy and paste from FBG:

The MRI results showed a subluxation separation. Meaning the shoulder came out and went back in by itself. He'll be evaluated futher Monday.

Also from FBG on this type of shoulder injury:

Shoulder injuries:

Acromioclavicular joint (AC) shoulder separation. This is also known as a
separated shoulder. This injury occurs as a result of a hit or blow to the top
part of the shoulder, depressing the scapula (shoulder blade) and tearing the
ligaments between the scapula and clavicle (collar bone). The classic case where
you see this injury is when a QB is sacked and driven to the turf shoulder first.
These don’t usually require surgery, and length of rehab depends upon severity and
player position. For example, a quarterback with an AC separation on his throwing
shoulder will obviously be more serious than a similar injury to a wide receiver.

Treatment and Return to play: For less severe grade 1 injuries, return to play
may be immediate (especially with a pain killing injection). More severe injuries
with grade 2 or grade 3 damage may take six weeks or even more.

How far should Portis fall based on what we know now? Checked a coupla cheatsheets, and one had him down to 11th, while another didn't move him at all. He went 7th in RIFC.

I'll soon have a decision between him and Cadillac Williams at 1.11. What say ye?

Soon, I'll have something to say about all of that, Toral, but not yet.

Does "soon" mean within the next 6 hours and 55 minutes? How 'bout giving me the Reader's Digest Condensed Version now? ;)

Since Cadillac has been selected now and I have made both of my first two picks, I can move forward with this discussion.

The thing about Portis is that he is a great RB, but that was a severe injury he experienced the other night. Not severe in terms of his livelihood, or anything, but in terms of pain. And that will affect him all season, I'd venture to say.

I really like what John Gruden does with RB's. I think Cadillac has immense potential coming into this season, and I would really like to have him on any fantasy football team I manage.

With that said, I think Portis is a better overall player. But they rank about equally because of the mitigating factor (the shoulder). It boils down to whether you are looking to take a risk or not for this season. Maybe Portis will begin to fumble more, or become tentative because of the pain? The safer bet is probably Cadillac. But I wouldn't criticize you for taking either guy.

Thanx. I opted for Portis, knowing that there was risk there. Unexpectedly tough decision, since in this league I had picked position #11 with the idea that my pick would be an absolute no-brainer. I would pick the 11th best RB, unless someone opted for Peyton, in which case I would have to think. As it turned out someone ahead of me timed out so I had the choice.

I saw myself more likely to win with Portis than with Cadillac, so I took the risk.

Back to the original question -- how far does Portis fall on cheatsheets. He's still got to be in the top 11, I think.

In HTH leagues, he is definitely top 11 on my sheets; the playoffs are won at the end, and you have to assume he is close to full projections by then. The ideal situation is to take Portis and make certain you get Betts, which means you may have to over pay for him. Getting Portis and Betts, though, should make for a seamless transition once Portis is healthy(er), and ensures you have a starting RB each week.

So much value in that post MC I can see how you though it would be good to wait to post it.

We drafted last night and I had the tenth pick. I chose Ronnie Brown at 10 and Portis was still waiting there for me at 15, so I took him. It was still a tough decision because he frustrated me so much last year with his inability to find the end zone. He didn\\\'t get a TD until week 7 and only had 7 TD\\\'s over the 15 week fantasy season.

Yeah, well I wouldn't expect a masterful drafter with all of your secret formulas and deals with the devil to get much from it. But there are lesser mortals playing fantasy football this year, too. I thought it might be helpful to a few meager individuals.

Portis is continuing to fall past 11. I think he is a still at 15. I'll take a flyer on a possible top 5 back at pick 15.

As a side note, why do Warner and Lewis have value going down as well. Warner is an injury risk, but his WR's are both top 10 picks. Lewis doesn't have the jail distraction this year and the ravens are much better with McNair.

Fanball's take on Portis and the Duckett trade

Portis previously trailed only the Big Three running backs, but he's now definitely also behind Tiki Barber, Steven Jackson, and Rudi Johnson and in a mix with guys Ronnie Brown, Edgerrin James, LaMont Jordan, and Cadillac Williams. In other words, he's fallen from the potential fourth overall fantasy pick to the end of the first round. It remains to be seen how the depth chart will shake out between Duckett and Betts, but fantasy owners should now view T.J., not Ladell, as the better handcuff to Portis.
