I was just about to pop in here to paste this very link, sarge.

From the CNN.com link:
"I didn't know the decision had been made," Portis said. "I thought it was a game-time decision. As of now, my bag's packed and ready to go to Dallas, unless they come and tap me on the shoulder in the near future and tell me I ain't going."

Last week, the story was just the opposite. Portis spent several days downplaying his chances to make the season opener, saying he was not in football shape and had yet to recover from a partially dislocated left shoulder that cause him to miss nearly all of preseason. Gibbs then sprung a surprise after the final practice, saying that Portis had tested the shoulder sufficiently and would play as a backup to Betts.

Can someone--anyone--explain to me why Gibbs feels it is necessary to risk his best offensive player's health for 10 carries a game, when he has 3 other healthy and decent RB's that he can use? I don't get it. Let Portis sit out a week or two, and bring him in fresh.

Duckett wouldn't be starting for me unless they guaranteed he would get 20 touches this week, legge.

I am looking at the `Skins long term situation. They need a healthy Portis to compete. If he keeps getting banged around, his shoulder is going to be like mince meat sooner or later.

I figure Portis' shoulder is torched for the season, and he either needs to play through it or just hang 'em up for mutliple weeks, because it won't stop hurting without an extended rest (1-2 months). The battering RB's go through, particularly their shoulders, is mind boggling, and I just don't see how he gets over it...reminds me of Clarett at OSU his freshman year and how his one arm was basically dead weight after his shoulder injury.

As for the Duckett comment, I was just busting your chops because you said the Skins had 3 good RB's. I don't think they really do.

gotta agree with you legge. The shoulder injury Portis took in tng camp, I'd have to think would compare to busted ribs. 2 months before you return to any real semblance of normalcy. Mix into that time, the beating a RB takes? 2 months from now, he'll be further from recovery than he is now.
