0 Subject: Tomlinson doesn't want the ball?

The Chargers were up 13-6 with 5:29 left in Sunday's game against the Ravens, and with the ball in their hands, they wanted to burn the clock. At that point, running back LaDainian Tomlinson told Michael Turner to go into the game. "I don't always have to be in there," Tomlinson explained to the San Diego Union-Tribune. "Michael's running style is more 'pound it' and that's what we were planning on doing in that situation was pounding the ball...It was my call. I don't know, would we have got a first down if I would have been in the game? Probably not."

AOL's analysis was that there wasn't a problem since LT got 27 carries and Turner only got 7. I am not an LT owner in any league, but I wanted to hear from you all and see what you thought about this.

it was LT's call? I could imagine the coaches telling LT he can pull himself if he is tired, but I'd be surprised if they'd really want him deciding it in the way he describes.

16 game season, fellas. LT's been getting banged up the last few seasons, while Turner is clearly a talented guy who can run it hard up the gut. I can see LT dishing some of the beating to his caddy, especially when the guy seems to be a stud himself.

I don't see this as a huge story.

I do own LT in one keeper league, for the record. I'm glad he's thinking about his health, and I'm sure the Chargers would be ecstatic to have him at close to 100% over the course of the full 16 game season.

This is a non-story I think. My guess is that LT dances around and Turner goes straight up the middle. That kind of punnishment isn't needed for LT. While turner, relishes in it, LT helped his team more by standing on the sidelines I'm guessing.

I guess I brought this up because SD ending up getting a Safety on this drive and ended up losing the game. This is how the drive went.
San Diego - 5:29
1st-10, SD9 5:29 SD committed 4 yard penalty
1st-14, SD5 5:29 SD committed 3 yard penalty
1st-17, SD2 5:10 L. Neal rushed to the right for 1 yard gain
2nd-16, SD3 4:51 M. Turner rushed to the left for 7 yard gain
3rd-9, SD10 4:07 M. Turner rushed to the left for 2 yard gain
4th-7, SD12 3:31 SD committed 5 yard penalty
4th-12, SD7 3:16 M. Scifres rushed up the middle for 7 yard loss. Safety

Turner did run well on this drive. I have to question Marty ball on this one. Why do you run with your 50 year old fullback on 1st and 17? I'd hand it off 3 straight times to my pounding brusing running back. Or since there's still 4:07 left in the game try throwing for the first down on 3rd and 9. I don't know, I guess I (to quote Herm Edwards) play to win the game.

Not only that, but if you are running to take time off the clock why did you only take off about 20 seconds on a run? You should be taking off 30-40 seconds on a running play that stays in-bounds.

It's worth noting as well that they had more in penalties than rushing yards, even with the penalties being truncated yardage because they were backed-up.
