0 Subject: "Questionable" WRs: Driver, R. Brown, or Bennett?

I'm in a bit of a jam this week. I'm going out of town today, meaning I have to set my roster today for this week. I have all my WR slots filled and all my RB slots filled and 1 of my 2 W/R flex spots filled. I need to fill the remaining W/R with one of the following...

Driver: Listed as Questionable with some sort of rib and hip injury/soreness. Missed practice WED, but KFFL says he'll likely play against STL.

R. Brown (PHI): Listed as Questionable with a sprained AC joint and sore quadriceps. Practiced WED and Rotowire says he's likely to play and may see increased targetting against DAL with Stallworth likely out.

Bennett: Listed as Questionable with sore quadriceps. Practiced WED, but neither Rotowire or KFFL will lean towards him playing. Plus, even with increased targetting potential against IND, he's got Vince Young as a QB.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Driver just because his injury/soreness seems to be the least of all 3.

Now, I also have some FA talent available. Re. Williams, Furrey, G. Lewis, and Gabriel are all available. I'm also considering Bennett > Re. Williams given Vince Young as Bennett's QB.

Thoughts?

I'd be inclined I think,... to grab/go with Furrey. Averaging 5 receptions/game, 60 yds/game and 1/2 TD/game. Seems on the surface, like a pretty solid play for a flex position.

I like Williams or Furrey better than the other two. Repeat success from Lewis is dependent on Brown or Stallworth being out, and since when has any Patriot receiver produced consistent numbers?

KKB, that problem stinks...

I would lean towards starting Driver or Reggie Brown, as it appears both will play this week and it also appears the Stallowrth will be out.

As for the FA WR's, I don't get this obsession with Furrey. He has had 1 good game and it was against his old team, against his offensive coordinator's old team, against the secondary he used to play in last year, and against an average defense (at best). Excluding that game against the Rams, which most should have seen coming with all the aforementioned points, Furrey is averaging 4.6 catches, 53 yards, and 0 TD's per game. Hardly what I would call useful numbers.

I would drop Bennett, though, for Gabriel or Reggie Williams. Sure, we can say "when has any Patriot receiver produced consistent numbers?" But, when has the Patriots WR corps been so weak? Gabriel has played two games as the starter for the Patriots, and has been targeted 20 times (10/game)! That includes a blowout against Cincy where the Pats hardly threw in the 4th Quarter. FWIW, I just traded for Gabriel in RIFC, and the original offer was for Furrey...I didn't want that offer.

Reggie Williams I have liked all season. Leftwich looks like a solid QB, and he is getting the ball to Williams often. Couple that with Matt Jones being so dinged up, and Williams should continue getting a bunch of looks.

I would drop Bennett (because of the reason you mentioned) and pick up one of those other two guys...but not Furrey.

KKB, if you need someone to put a lineup in for you on Sunday, though, I'd be happy to help you out. Just let me know.

obsession???? one "good" game???

He's had one "monster" game, and couple solid games for a #3 WR/flex guy.

5/55 in wk1
6/67 in wk2 vs Chi
3/38 wk3
8/82 and 2 TD last week.

I think most of us would be thrilled with those nrs from our nr3 WR. I think most of us, would be happy to see those from our nr 2 guy.

I only call it an obsession because I have seen a couple threads talking about how Furrey is the pick up to make (including one where someone proposed dropping Antonio Bryant for him?!?!?). I just disagree. Obsession is probably a strong word, but I am just not getting the suggestion to pick him up when almost any statistical analysis says otherwise.

Re. Williams estimated 16 game numbers, excluding his two outliers (bad Week 3 and great week 4): 1,136 yards and 8 TD's. Including his two outliers yields season long figures of 972 yards and 12 TD's.

Gabriel's estimated 16 game numbers since he was promoted to starter: 976 yards, 16 TD's. I doubt he gets a TD each game, so, I'd be fine dropping that number to 976 yards and 8 TD's on the season.

Furrey's estimated 16 game numbers excluding the Rams game: 853 yards and 0 TD's. Ho hum. Heck, let's include Furrey's monstrous game and his estimated 16 game numbers equal 968 yards and 8 TD's.

Let's see, which is better:

Williams: 972-1,136 yards and 8-12 TD's
Gabriel: 976 yards and 8 TD's
Furrey: 853-968 yards and 0-8 TD's

Who would you take? If you take Furrey just because you have a feeling that he will be better, that's fine. I just don't think that there is any analysis to back it up.

I do agree with your assessment that any of those numbers are decent for a WR #3, but I think Reggie Williams and Gabriel are higher end #3's. If Furrey alone was out there, sure, pick him up, but with those other options out there, I don't think Furrey should be added. Let me add this also, I am in 4 FFL's, and in 3 of them Furrey is available. Williams and Gabriel are not available in any.

I think most of us, would be happy to see those from our nr 2 guy.

Not quite sure I can agree with that comment. Most leagues require about 10 ppg for each player to earn a victory. If Furrey is putting up between 3-7 points 75% of his games, the likelihood of your squad going 1-3 or 2-2 during those weeks is increased, especially considering the majority of leagues only start 8-10 players. Reggie Williams, on the other hand, has put up 9.5+ points 3 out of 4 weeks and would be a decent low end #2 WR.

I have DD too. If he is going to play it's hard to pass on
him.

Mike Williams working his way back in the mix. Also they are high on a guy named Bodiford...Furrey's numbers may take a hit
