0 Subject: Trade Overreaction???

Had our league (including me) up in arms this morning. No league voting on trades - only Commissioner has veto power, and he's not vetoing it since he's on the "good" end of the deal...

Willis McGahee and Michael Jenkins

FOR

Kevin Jones and Marvin Harrison

League Scoring -
20 yards rushing/receiving = 1 point
ALL TDs = 6 points

OK MC, consider this...the owner who traded Harrison and Jones had just turned down an offer of Deuce McAllister and Deion Branch for them.

may or may not be "over reaction", but in a league where only the commish has veto power over normal trades, then trades involving th4e ocmmish need to be put to league vote. NOBODY should ever have sole authoizing capacity over there own deals.

I don't see why any honest commish would want sole veto power. last thing you want is people suspecting you of abusing your powers.

Side A: 633 Yds, 2 TD, 43.65 points
Side B: 687 Yds, 4 TD, 58.35 points

5 weeks into the season, either side is just as capable as putting up the opposite side's stats. I don't see why 2 TDs and 54 yards (14.7 points total, or 2.94 points TOTAL per week) would be worth a league getting up in arms over anything. I could easily see those stats swapping over the next 5 weeks, in which case the "good" side would actually be the "bad" side.

Trade overreaction? Absolutely... well, unless your league counts past stats somehow.

As for turning down McAllister/Branch, what does that have to do with anything? Nothing says that a manager must accept all fair trades, nor that they have to accept trades that are even to their advantage.

Besides, I know a manager who refuses to draft, or trade for, McNabb each and every year because McNabb burned this manager a few years ago in a playoff matchup. A bit illogical? Yes. But this manager has their reasons and they stick to them.

We all value players differently. Sometimes its the name (man I love to trade big names for some lesser known players with stats that will help me a great deal more and usually you get more back because of that), sometimes its the managers rl loyalties or hometown team. When all is said and done, my crystal ball broke a long time ago and unless it's just blatantly obvious that someone is dumping or colluding, then let it go. By all means speak your mind or post your thoughts on it, but don't get in the way--even if it's a trade that will help one team pass you or keep you from catching them.

Most "controversial" trades in my experience is one where there is a big name involved. At times, stats and category needs be damned.

No problem with the trade. My problem is a commish with absolute power.

Sounds more like a dictatorship.

it's not just the commish, it's everyone in the league.

while i dont think this trade is even remotely vetoable, the fact that no one else in the league has input is the problem.

if i were everyone else, i'd leave the league, and let him play with himself. :o)

As a commish, I don't even want the appearance of absolute power. In two leagues we have a trade vote and in another we have two commishs and we've never had to approve our own. He even have language for an appeal process and in the instance that the two commishs trade with each other. The commish is also a league member. But if the rest of the league doesn't want to pipe up then it's on them. Still this is not a trade you want to hang your hat on as an issue because frankly it's not a bad trade.
