Florida State offensive coordinator Bowden to resign
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden is stepping down.

He resigned Tuesday, just three days after the Seminoles were shut out for the first time in 233 games.

Athletic director David Hart Jr. says the resignation will be effective at the end of this season.

Bowden, the youngest son of Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden, replaced now-Georgia head coach Mark Richt as the Seminoles' offensive coordinator in 2001.

Florida State has its homecoming game Saturday against Western Michigan followed by the season finale on Nov. 25 against intrastate rival Florida.

Bobby Bowden has stood by his son's performance as offensive coordinator despite a notable decline in scoring and yardage gained in the past half-dozen seasons.

The school had skirted a nepotism policy by having the younger Bowden report to another coach on the staff other than his father.

Yeah. I like how he'll stick around until after they play UF, though. Hey, we need all the help we can get in the Urban Meyer "Points Challenged" offense.

You're going to hurt something.

J, I have no problem admitting that FSU could win this year and the odds of doing so aren't bad at all.

UF just came off a 1 point home victory over South Freaking Carolina and a 6 point win at Vanderbilt. All of our fans with pacemakers are surely dead after that showing. We have Western Carolina this week to prove that, yes, we can still score 30. And then we get to go into your wasps' nest and play you guys in what amounts to FSU's bowl game. Yeah, I'm nervous about it.

I know, and I'm kidding, I think we've got a shot to win any game we play. Last year, same thing, no one thought FSU had a chance vs Virginia Tech or Penn State but we won the ACC CG and were an extra point away from knocking off #3 PSU.

While I think its possible...I don't like our chances, but I'll be there! Saying my goodbyes to Jeffy :)

FLA - score 30 - I don't know if it's the rule change on when the clock runs, but in SEC games this year, total points per game is 41.7. In 2003 & 2004 it was 47.4 [counting championship games].

30+ points have been scored only 14 times out of 82 chances in SEC games this year. Kentucky leads with 3 [vs Vandy, Ole Miss and Miss St]. FLA, Vandy, ALA and Ole Miss have not scored 30 in an SEC game. Object is to win and FLA has done that so far [except against Auburn].

FLA needs to worry about ARK. I think they might be better than I thought. Either Auburn was really bad last Saturday or Arkansas is good.

Uh, yeah, well let's play that Sesame Street game and ask, "Which one of these things is not like the others?"

UF has the talent to lead the league in scoring. We have the best group of WR's, a QB who had the lowest INT percentage in UF history coming into this season, and a serviceable RB who we should be able to use to gain yards on the ground when needed (hell, DeShawn Wynn may be a superstud for all anyone knows--we haven't seen what he can do all year and that's not his fault). What we seem to lack is the right play-calling at times, and a consistent offensive line that keeps Leak upright and able to have 3 seconds to throw once in a while. If those two deficiencies could be corrected between now and the SEC title game, I think we are going to the National Championship Game. If not, as you warned, steve houpt, Arkansas will likely run us through with their little piggy tusks.

I don't know how many FG's we've missed this season, and they haven't lost us any games, but we would have come closer to scoring 30 against Vandy if we'd have made a FG or 2. That's not strictly a problem with the offense, but it makes the offense look less effective.

Either Auburn was really bad last Saturday or Arkansas is good.

Or both. Auburn put up a stinker last Saturday, but Arkansas looked like the real deal when they beat Auburn. I'd be VERY scared of Arkansas if I were Florida.

The problem with Florida is that Urban Meyer is an arrogant jackass who thinks that his system will work anywhere with anyone and that the players should adapt to him rather than the other way around. Instead of implementing his system with his recruits when the time was right, he has tried to turn a classic pocket passer and big RB into a scrambling option duo. All that razzle dazzle usually doesn't get them anywhere. If you watch them, their best gains are usually on conventional plays. If they just lined up and ran Wynn up the middle and let Leak pick apart defenses off of play action all game, they'd put up a lot more points. And of course, when the offense struggles, Meyer comes out in the media and criticizes his QB's play and blasts his RB's.

nice analysis Razor, run more play action and run it up the middle.

I'd be VERY scared of Arkansas if I were Florida.

UF is good enough to beat anyone in the NCAA if they run quality plays and quit missing all of those FG's.

Our defense is stout and they will play well against Arkansas. If we lose that game it will be because the offense couldn't keep pace. McFadden will get his, sure, but an offense like ours is capable of overcoming a deficit.

The last time UF was blown out was last season in Alabama. That game was a comedy of errors that featured all three phases of the team falling apart at one time. We haven't seen that since, and we won't in my opinion. That's the benefit of Urban Meyer. Not his offensive genius, or his reputation or recruiting skills. He's a coach that forces the team to play fundamentally sound football. That's why we're so consistent. Even in the bad things we've been fairly consistent this year.

We have two games left to get things straightened out. A confidence builder this week, and a solid road test next week against out archrivals. If we acquit ourselves of those two contests, I will have the utmost faith in our squad when we get to Atlanta.

man, we should *all* be paid so well to resign.

Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden received a $537,000 buyout from the school's boosters to resign.

After a 62-0 blowout, we have definitely had a bit of a confidence booster. Not to further grind the wound on those poor, poor Seminoles (you know you hit the bottom when a Gator fan feels bad for you), but there isn't a chance in the SEC (allusion to hell there for you heathens) that you'll win this coming Saturday. You MIGHT put a few points on the board. In any case, I think Florida is making a pretty strong case for itself.

Yes, Arkansas is a good team, I've seen it week in and week out, starting two weeks after their goof up against USC. Wouldn't my life be a lot easier if they had beaten them, or if we hadn't screwed up so bad against Auburn. Either way, there is no way to tell how the SEC Championship game is going to turn out, but I can tell you that I favor the Gators by a few touchdowns.

If I were a Seminole, I wouldn't go to the game on Saturday... It's always worst to see your own kind slaughtered. I'll bet Tebow enjoys his first taste of Semi blood.

gotta love the newbies coming out with some bulletin board material.

and yes, I'll be at the game. I don't THINK FSU will win, but I sure as hell think we've got a chance.

Newbies? I was just perusing some more forums.

Haven't been on any FSU ones lately to harass you. Anyway, I do hope you play decently so as not to embarass yourselves, but sadly we have to whomp you in order to not be pulled down.

Great... to be.. a Florida Gator!

Here's to J and smallwhirled noting that I'm not talking too much trash for this upcoming game--in the cutthroat world of Florida college football, you never know when your team will be next in the buzzsaw. Ask the Hurricanes.

With that said, I did enjoy last year's game immensely.

The Seminoles have only one goal at this point, surely: to ruin UF's National Title hopes. This is the Championship for Bobby's Boys.

Right now, it doesn't even hurt when we lose.....that's how bad it's gotten lately.

I'm really considering not going to Tallahassee for the game. Why rush Thanksgiving for a 12 PM Saturday shellacking???

Weatherford named the starter again. It's just embarrassing. The entire fanbase is united behind Xavier Lee, yet Bowden continues to stick with "his" guy. I'm tired of it.

Who would you rather have at QB?
-A guy who makes mistakes, but at least can make some plays with his arm/feet despite a terrible offensive gameplan.

OR

-A guy who is ultra conservative, yet still makes the same amount of mistakes...but can't make plays at all with that same inept offensive gameplan.

Florida State will not move the ball with Weatherford in the game against the Florida defense.

Prediction:
Florida makes a play of two early, our team quits, and the final margin is about 3 touchdowns.

Congrats Gators.
