AP IRVING, Texas -- Bill Parcells retired from coaching Monday, leaving the Dallas Cowboys after four seasons and ending a stellar career that featured three Super Bowl appearances and two championships.
The announcement came 15 days after the Cowboys' season ended with a heartbreaking playoff loss in Seattle. He'd been at his office nearly every day since, and there were other indications that the 65-year-old coach was returning for a fifth year in Dallas and 20th as an NFL head coach.
"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," he said in a statement. "I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."

i am fairly stunned by this. i felt like he'd back, to see what one season with Tony Romo could do.

Crap. That means TO is most likely going to be in a Dallas Cowboys uniform for another year. Double Crap.

ESPN is sure making it sound that Jerry Jones forced him out.
Pasquarlli said Parcells attitude changed drastically last nite.
Evident late last nite to people close to Bill that he was going.
Lots of names being thrown out to replace.
Bob Stoops keeps coming up.

I have heard it said that Parcells was concerned with coming back to a team that had to depend on a gambling, turnover prone QB such as Romo. This, coupled with the T.O. situation, wherein he did not feel he was in command of the situation, led him to feel that next year would be more of the same as this one was, if not worse.

That actually wouldn't surprise me. Some of the public comments he made about Romo seemed to suggest that Parcells thought Romo's head/ego was a bit too big for his helmet.
I seem to recall a reporter asking a question about Romo's 6 INTs and 6 fumbles in the last however-many games and Parcells said something to the effect of, "It's okay with me because now he has to listen to me again."
Maybe he just felt like he didn't have control of the team and that he never would get it? Like the players were just out there playing and not listening to him?
Not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that out.

I am pretty excited to see him go. Maybe we can get some new young coach in there. I think Parcells hurt them more then helped them anyways. I just wish TO was on the same train out of big D.

You just can't hire anyone. T.O. is a huge problem. A young coach and him together could spell disaster.

i am not saying a new coach all together, but a new one. Like a strong coordinator or something. IF TO is that big of a distraction trade him or something. He did do that great this year.

I'd like to see Chico Rivera, the Bears defensive coordinator, get an interview for that job. I think he'll make a really good head coach one day.

I'd like to see Chita Rivera, the Broadway actress and dancer, interview for the job of Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. Except that she's about 60 now.

To said the team will be better now that Parcells is gone and many other things here. TO is the cancer.

I like how T.O. kicks everyone in the butt behind their back, instead of straight to their faces.

What else would a coward who is concerned about nothing else other than how much media coverage he's receiving do?

What do you think TO would say when faced with this, with headphones:

Norv Turner is the leading candidate to coach the Cowgirls. I am trembling with laughter typing this. If TO stays, they ought to make the 2007 Cowboys season a reality TV series, it will be a comedy/tragedy of Shakespearian proportions.
Hey, they are leaning towards hiring Ron Rivera as the defensive coordinator. I remember him at Cal. I think he is a great def. coordinator because he was probably the slowest linebacker since they got rid of leather helmets. Even though he would lose a footrace with Emanuel Yarbrough, he was always around the ball and making tackles - smart player.

Definitely a nice call Tree. Of course, I'm referring to your admission that the Parcells Era was a total bust. How 'bout them Cowboys! Chirp, chirp. Great headline from ESPN.com today:
"America's Team hasn't won a playoff game in a decade. So it's handing head coaching duties to a twice-fired retread who's never won a playoff game?" Fantastic.
I'm looking forward to enjoying the mediocrity this hiring will surely perpetuate. I say kudos, Jerry Jones!

chode, if i called you a dick in an earlier post, that was a good call as well, since it's quite accurate.
you've contributed nothing to any of these threads, other than proving that you are, indeed, a chode .
no question, the Parcells era was a bust.

Ooh, the "insult" response. That didn't take long ... but it rarely takes long for you to resort to name calling, right? Well played, and how very stats quo of you!
If by "contributed nothing" to your Cowboys threads, you mean I've successfully called you out and undermined your irrational thoughts regarding a decidedly average team for the past 3 years, then so be it. And I didn't even need to stoop to your level and call you names in the process; your incessant mudslingi--, er, contributions, speak for themselves, champ.
