I saw a this short news blurb in Fantasy Sports Magazine:
"The NFL will bring its Internet ventures in-house in 2007 and will now operate its fantasy games by itself. NFL.com began in 1995 as the first sports league website and had been produced and operated by CBS Sportsline.com for the past five seasons. The NFL will operate NFL.com out of Los Angeles with a relaunch set for spring."
I haven't spent much time digging into the meaning of this, and wondered if anyoe else has heard anything about it. I assume that, other than some reformatting, taking over NFL.com from CBS Sportsline will be of not much consequence. But I'm curious about the statement that NFL.com "will now operate its fantasy games by itself." I wonder if they will simply offer a competing fantasy sports platform, or whether they also contemplate crowding out some (or many) of the current established players, similar to the recent gambit by MLB.

I saw the same blurb here. I am assuming it to mean that website NFL.com and all it's features (including the site's own fantasy offerings) will be operated by the NFL in-house and not by CBS Sportsline.

I'm guessing other fantasy football products are uneffected.

From that same link there is also a story about ESPN's fantasy baseball being a free offering next season.

My understanding was that Sportsline had been running the NFL fantasy games in past seasons, so this was affirming that Sportsline would no longer be doing so. I'm expecting that they'll continue the same platforms they have been offering, just doing it themselves.
