ESPN has replaced Joe Theisman with Ron Jaworski. I was never a fan of Theisman but the rifts between he and Kornheiser were a major distraction while watching MNF.

I have a strong disdain for both. Hopefully Jaws won't be as annoying as he was on Sunday Countdown. His analysis is pretty basic. But overall nothing compares to the disaster that was SNF 2 years ago.

Has anyone else noticed stuart scotts eyebrows ? Whenever he comes on I cannot keep my eyes off of them. He always is doing some facial expression that causes one eyebrow to go way up.

Thats what happens when you have unforced errors. A low FG try, dozen or so false starts or holding calls. That stuff will make you lose to almost anyone in the NFL. That being said, I think the game turned on that missed face mask/fumble play. How does an official miss that face mask?

Former Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden is replacing Tony Kornheiser on ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast team. Kornheiser cited a fear of flying in his decision to leave after three years.
The network said Monday that Gruden will be in the booth with Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski when the show starts its 40th season this fall.
Kornheiser will continue to appear on ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption," and is relieved it doesn't require air travel.
"My fear of planes is legendary and sadly true," he said. "When I looked at the upcoming schedule it was the perfect storm that would've frequently moved me from the bus to the air."

I know I'm in the minority, but I liked Mr. Tony.
Gruden will be interesting; I'd be surprised if MNF would take him as just a one-season fill in. That doesn't seem like something they'd do with that position.

I think we all know that Gruden is a one-and-done announcer. I am pleasantly surprised how he comes across because with his snarling, scrunching, and intense reputation, I was expecting a lot of anger in his voice. But that's just not so. He's really quite good at expressing his thoughts in a knowledgeable way without any of the arrogance I was expecting.
However, IMHO, I think he'll definitely be back coaching next season (if he wants to) and I suspect Cowher will be back as well.

I think Theisman did a whole thing about how Brad Smith made a great throw, but it turns out it wasn't in the Wildcat and it was actually Sanchez the whole time.

Speaking of the Jets...crazy as it sounds, they are the one team that I think can beat San Diego in the AFC... San Diego's achillies heel is their inability to stop the run; allowing 4.5 ypc (among the worst in the NFL) and we all know the Jets plan to stuff the ball down your throat. Should be interesting. The key stat that I took away from the Jets / Bengals matchup was that Sanchez was 11/12 (12/15 overall) passing with a 3 or 4 man rush against him (saw it on ESPN News...didn't get yardage). Moral of the story: Pressure the guy!!! He's definitely INT prone. Should the Jets get up early and make a couple stops on San Diego, the Chargers are in BIG BIG trouble.

that could very well be the case...but the longer the game stays close, the more it favors the NYJ. I seriously don't know how they're doing it...they have a turnover prone rookie QB who isn't the greatest vs the Blitz, but yet they're winning games. Another underrated factor: Norv Turner...lol

I actually wonder how turnover prone Sanchez is. Yes, he had 20 INTs to 12 TDs this season, but a closer look reveals that 15 of those INTs came in just 4 games. In other words, 75% of his INTs came in 25% of his games.
And looking at those particular games, he faced some of the top INT defenses in the NFL:
10/04 NOR 3 INT, 0 TD (#3 INT defense)
10/18 BUF 5 INT, 0 TD (#2 INT defense)
11/22 NWE 4 INT, 1 TD (#11 INT defense)
12/20 ATL 3 INT, 1 TD (#16 INT defense)
Now SDG is right up there with ATL, but definitely not in the realm of NOR or BUF in terms of INTs.
It should also be noted that those 4 games accounted for 10 of his 26 sacks (38% in 25% of games), another stat that SDG is middle-of-the-road in on defense and a stat that could explain the INTs (bad decisions under pressure).
I'm not pointing any of this out to counter what you say, but more as an observation because I think it's going to be interesting to see how the game plays out. If SDG is able to get pressure, it should work out in their favor. If they play middle-of-the-road, they could be in for a big surprise.

"Turnover prone" QB only gave up 1 INT, but he and the Jets are going to have a much tougher time against the Colts. I think the Colts' offensive weapons are a step ahead of the Chargers, so they may be able to get an early lead that would force Sanchez to pass the ball more and take more chances.

Yeah, I know, I deserve that. But I had figured a 38-6 score. The cowboys had a lot of flaws that no one seemed to point out. Bad kicker, undisciplined, short yardage problems and a QB that had not really proved anything under pressure. Two of those things gave.
Colts/Jets should be a great game. I have a funny feeling that the Colts lying down could bite them in the butt. The Colts are a different team this year, not as dominent, but efficient and oportunistic. And they have had a few bounces go their way. But until someone beats the starters, they have to be the favorite.

The two teams that got all the press about resting their starters won. One of them (Saints) won in blowout fashion. The other (Colts) still did a good job. Personally, I didn't see the "rust" that others were forecasting in the previous weeks and I can't see it suddenly appearing next week.
The way I see it, if either of them loses, it's because they got beat by the better team on that day, not because they're somehow more "rusty" this coming week than they were this past weekend.
To me, all the predictions of those teams' failure by some in the press is just like the doomsdayers that predict every year there will be catastrophic hurricanes that hit the U.S.: The one time they're right, they point out how right they were. Just nevermind the other 90% of the time.
I wish I could count how many articles were written this past weekend by those who had predicted the demise of the Saints and Colts that claimed the teams had "shaken off the rust"... as if it existed in the first place.

Arguably, though, they allowed a marginal team into the playoffs, and that team then went out and eliminated the Chargers, which was probably the team that the Colts were most worried about.
If the Colts can beat the Jets this week, it could be that the laydown really did work to Colts' advantage - in terms of playoff matchups.

I adopted the Jets as my favorite playoff team as soon as the Steelers were eliminated from playoff contention. They've been fun to watch.
It's easy to dismiss their chances vs. the Colts, but they've won 7 of their last 8, outscoring opponents 176-75. That's only 9 pts a game against them. Pretty nice run.
Manning is awesome but the Colts had a lot of close games this season. Look. They're good but they are nowhere close to invincible. There's nothing special about their defense. If they can't slow down the Jets running game there's a good chance they lose.

I agree with you Holt, but their D makes plays when they have too.
I wonder if not playing the Chargers kinda threw them off a bit? I mean that in a sense that they wanted the Chargers, and they could be a little over confident. I get that from reading an article quoting Dwight Freeney saying that Sanchez is a rookie QB. I just have a gut feeling that Manning will be walking of the field with his head down again this year, the Jets look dangerous.

Pretty intriguing game. I'm expecting the Colts to be aggressive early in an attempt to rattle the Jets and lure them away from running the ball so much. A 1st quarter Revis pick-six would be sweet. Can't wait to see this game.
BTW, I don't really dislike the Colts. Manning is one of the greatest QB's we'll ever get to watch. The Jets are just really easy to pull for.
Come to think of it, abandoning the rare opportunity of going for a perfect season does make me dislike the Colts! Jets all the way...

The Colts impressed me today, and when things are going good, everything seems to go good for them. Last week they had good bounces on fumbles, and they got another one when Wayne fumbled. And Greene going out of the game was probably the biggest one. But they are a lot better than I thought.

Here's a smattering of Theismann and Millen insights from Thursday's Ravens-Falcons game:
Millen: "You look at these defenses - they both have their strengths, and they both have their weaknesses."
Theismann (on a Matt Ryan pass): "Aerodynamically, it's thrown perfectly."
Millen: "If you look at the Atlanta Falcons' offensive line versus the defensive front of the Baltimore Ravens … collectively they're much better than they are individually, and they have to collectively win that battle."
Theismann: "What impresses me about the Atlanta Falcons - on two third-and-short situations, the ball carrier knew how far he had to go … they've picked up (two) first downs just by being smart."
Millen: "Remember, this is a one-score game right now. So (the Falcons) have to use the clock, and they have to convert here - you know, try to pick up the first down."
Theismann: "The Ravens knew it wasn't going to be easy. It was going to be a slobberknocker, for lack of a better word."
Even Papa was pulled into the slobberknocker abyss. NFL Network is obsessed with third-down statistical minutiae, leading Papa to intone, "(The Falcons) are 6-of-8 on third-down attempts between 5 and 8 yards. Third-and-4 here."
Alas, the game mercifully ended. How did I know it was over? I could count to five in peace.
