0 Subject: keeper league advice

I'm in a keeper league where we retain our 4 best offensive players. I have Parker, Gore, Fitz and Thomas Jones. I also have the #2 pick in the draft. We start 2 RB's and 3 WR's so the question is, am I best keeping my 3 rb's and Fitz and draft Colston at #2 or trade one of the RBs for a top end WR and pick help and then draft either Travis Henry, Lynch or Jones-Drew?

we are in a PPR league BTW

I'd go with your first inclination. Keep 3 RBs and Fitz, then draft WR with your first pick.

I'd rather have Colston/Henry than Colston/Jones. I think I'd rather have Jones-Drew over Jones as well. Is Colston the other player you are thinking of keeping? If not, who are your other choices? How many teams in the league and does it snake?

He's looking at drafting Colston with his first pick, so keeping him isnt an option.

Starting 2 RBs, Parker/Gore are the starters and Jones is your bye-week replacement. Not ideal, but beats drafting a 3rd RB with an early pick when its a bench player barring injuries.

Keeping Fitz gives a VERY solid nr 1 WR. If you get Colston on your first shot, that gives you 2 very sound WRs, to play alongside 2 solid RBs.

Question becomes...who is your most likely 3rd WR, and how does your projected corps compare to the others in the league?

He's looking at drafting Colston with his first pick, so keeping him isnt an option.

He might own Colston and be debating dropping him and then drafting him with his first pick. Probably not, but it would be nice to know who his other receivers are before deciding whether Jones should fill that last keeper spot, especially if this is a smaller league. I would keep Colston and probably another 20 WR over Jones, especially knowing I already have my RB starters and the league starts 3 WR. If I was drafting first, I'd take Peterson so obviously if Peterson isn't drafted first (and he drafted him) he'd now have 4 RB.

Starting 2 RBs, Parker/Gore are the starters and Jones is your bye-week replacement. Not ideal, but beats drafting a 3rd RB with an early pick when its a bench player barring injuries.

Keeping Jones is equivalent to the same thing. In a larger league Jones will be gone before the 5th round comes around so keeping him isn't a terrible option, but league size really does come into play. With Henry and Jones-Drew available along with Colston, I'm guessing it isn't a very large league.

right...my bad. Nr of teams and current roster are missing data that would be helpful. (For some reaosn, the obvious once again escaped me...dropping and redrafting the same player....)

I don't have Colston. He was picked up by a team alst year as a FA (as I assume he was in most leagues) I am pretty sure that Hines Ward will last to the top of the second round so I hope to land him with my second round pick.

A couple of big things to keep in mind here. Gore and Parker have the same bye week and this is a keeper league so youth is key. I obvioussly love the threesome of Gore, Parker and Fitz in a keeper league and if I draft Colston I'm setting myself up pretty nice long term with them. The thing is, I think that I can land Lee Evans or Boldin and a 1st rounder or high second for Parker or Gore. That would give me 2 young WR's, a young RB, a servicable RB and then I can draft Lynch with my top pick and have my youth again with a stronger squad for this year. The question is, how good will Lynch be? I sdrafting Lynch on potential better then taking Henry who has to be a top 10 RB this season? Do I dare pass up the chance to have Colston, Fitz, Gore and Parker long term?

As far as how I sit in the league, I'm probably the 4th best retention in the L IMO. The league is 12 teams and don't forget, Jones-Drew and Colston came out of nowhere and Henry didn't have a ton of talk about him. In our league, you can only retain a player that was drafted last year so those guys are not protected.

I think I answered all of your q's, hopefully that can help you better with my dilemma.

If I were in your situation I would trade Parker for WR help then draft Jones-Drew. This is all based on the fact that you know for sure that the guy in front of you won't draft him. While Willie might give you more PPR I think Jones-Drew will give you a good number more TDs. And Jones-Drew has a really great upside when Fragile Freddie retires. This will give you 2 great young RBs and hopefully 2 great WRs with T. Jones as a good backup. This will also give you a good bye week lineup since Jones-Drew, Gore, and TJ all have different byes.
Also if Ward is the best on the board that will give you a pretty solid 1-2-3 WR.

(Note: If you can trade TJ for a good WR and draft Jones-Drew do that. That should be your 1st option over trading Parker. You could try packaging Parker-Jones for a 1st rounder and a top WR too.)

some things I've read are not as high on Jones-Drew as you are Kyle. Some worries about split time again with Taylor. The best for this season is probably Henry since he's in Denver and signed a decent contract, you'd think that they'd really give him his touches but they do have Bell and he's a better receiver so maybe a better 3rd down option then Henry. As for Lynch, you never know with a rook but he's the highest rated of the three in most reads that I've done, and the youngest and no one to compete with him. Plus he's a great receiver out of the backfield.
