I'm surprised there's no thread about this.

Anyway, does anyone know what RH decided to do in regards to pricing over bye weeks? That answer doesn't seem to exist anywhere on the site and I think it should. It's going to be a huge part of the game whether they want it to be or not.

I think the thing about football is that you can get away with being a casual fan in some sense.

An ultrasharp fantasy baseballer will crush even a pretty hardcore baseball fan, imo.

With football the fantasy resources are plentiful and it's not too hard, if you're a bright guy and care to, to get good solid info every week to go on.

But maybe all this means is that I'm a fantasy football fish though I have had pretty good success up to this point.

RH updated their player list and prices. They went from ~380 players to ~860 if I remember right.

I updated the downloadable spreadsheet on my site if you guys need it.

I'm amazed at how many players there are now.

Species - I think they just did that to show what it would look like.

I did my draft today. It actually didn't work properly and I couldn't make picks (even though the practice draft had worked ok), but I'm happy enough with the players I got based on my pre-rankings, so I probably won't take RH up on their offer to draft at another time. At this stage its all about getting players who will appreciate in price anyway.

......and any thoughts on who those people will be?

1 - Players with good week 1 matchups?

2 - Top priced stars?

3 - Value priced players? Who?

Supposedly top 5 players at each skill position have been selling out in drafts, so those seem like a good bet.

I'm also betting on the week 1 matchups being important once trading starts.

P.S. Take my opinion with a grain of salt...I've never played fantasy football before and haven't really followed football at all the past 5 or 6 years.

I'm really interested in what you guys think on this.

I'm torn between these 2 things:
1 - top players are selling out. this means they're in high demand.

2 - managers are getting incomplete roster due to running out of money. top players are going to get sold en masse on tuesday to free up funds.

One of the customer service people did acknowledge that there will be a price cap like in baseball...but they didn't say how high it would be.

I think people will generally tend to move toward players with better week 1 matchups and away from expensive players with tough matchups.

Were you in Draft Room A @ 9? I was and what a mess, almost every pick I tried , I was told player not available.

I actually spent one round and went through the top 16 TE's and none were available. Impossible in a 12 team draft.

Obviously a screw up and I emailed them.

Got this response to my email:

During the RotoHog Draft this evening players were selling out prematurely, and you may have experienced other unexpected behavior related to this. These problems were caused by an incorrect allocation of player inventory to your draft room. This was an operator error on our part and we will be doing everything in our power to make sure it does not happen again.

Because of this problem, we have reset your draft status and you will be able to sign-up for another draft time. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and welcome your feedback with regards to the situation.

We are discussing ways to amend the inconvenience we have caused. Please look for an email that will be sent within the hour.

Haven't seen this mentioned before. It reflects a change from baseball:
Transaction Fees: a $0.50 RotoHog dollar transaction fee is charged every time a manager buys or sells a player. Again, this is game money and no real money is charged. This fee will be displayed when you confirm your order.

Guru - I noticed that. I think it won't have a huge impact with games only once a week. If anything its going to hurt those who don't focus on building RV more than those who do.

Hey guys, I posted up my best $1 players over at WeeklyProjections. I think the top 3 on my list (Crosby, Folk, Jacoby Jones) are must haves right now but all of them are pretty safe bets for gains.

It looks like there are some other cheapies between $2-$10 as well. My favorite right now is possibly Crayton at $8 assuming Glenn doesn't play Week 1.

When I did my draft, I got all 10 players that I had targeted.
By the end of the draft, 5 of the 10 had sold out.

Just seems to be the way it is running.

Ender - Same thing happened to me. They offered to let me redraft, but I just went with the guys I got from my pre-ranking, since:

1. I'm pretty clueless about football and won't be taking it too seriously anyway.
2. I have no idea whether it would have worked any better the 2nd time.
3. All the draft really matters for in RH is increasing RV, and I think I got a reasonably ok roster (although not great) for that purpose.

They really blew it with the drafts. Everyone had problems, and most new users won't understand that the draft is not such a big deal in RH. They're used to the draft being the most impt part of the year.

donk, the $1 picks are at the top right now on . Not sure why they wouldn't be showing up. WeeklyProjections.com. Email me if there's a problem.

I am supposed to draft tonight, but I keep moving it back and will likely do it again.

I've done nothing. No pre-rankings. Nada. Baseball draft was a joke. I just want to go in there and pick players whose value will rise enough to make it worth it to sell later for a profit. I want to go in and start listing undervalued players so we can all try and nab. I see Tj has named three. Any others people have already found?

My guess is that I'll draft tomorrow afternoon if not tonight.

A friend of mine tried drafting from work, and it wasn't working. he got a team anyway since he had pre-rankings set up. he told RH and they let him redraft, which he did last night. it worked fine from his home. he found out today that it was messing up at work because of a firewall. so if any of you are trying to draft from an office, and are having problems, a firewall could be the reason. ironically, my friend actually liked his pre-ranked draft over the one he did live. go figure.

I'm looking at some of the prices and it seems like it's going to be tough to draft a team for $300 and have any semblance of points. I don't know where to start!

Just had my draft, some of the "top 5" guys didn't sell out. I know Steve Smith didn't. I think Carson Palmer didn't sell out til pretty late in the draft.

Vincent Jackson sold out in round 6 or so, I was hoping to grab him.

Joe Nedney sold out for some reason

From what I remember (I can't see my roster for 30 minutes)

QB - Peyton Manning, David Garrard
RB - Tomlinson, Maroney, Jacobs
WR - Reggie Brown, Jacoby Jones, Demitrius Williams, Crayton (can you tell that I looked at TacoJohn's site?) :)
TE - Empty
K - Folk? I think
DEF - Empty

I don't know how the cap will play out, but I think I'm purely going for undervalued players and as their price rises try and nab some studs. However, I think, like J, I'm going to have to get a couple studs to avoid them being sold out. This is going to take a lot of strategy with a TON of luck. G24 draft could be a big help as the guys I've studied for that seem to have some sleeper value here. But will they play and will they do anything? UGH.

I'm gun-shy on Tomlinson. I think he could come under some selling pressure post-draft when:

- teams realize that they need to raise funds to fill a roster, and
- teams realize that S.D. opens against the Bears.

I just finished my draft. It seemed to go pretty smoothly.

Here's the sellout tally at the end:
12 QB
15 RB
11 WR
2 TE
4 DEF

Here's who sold out in my draft... I think it's pretty accurate, one or two might be off a round... as well as who I took. I had a plan of the players I wanted in the draft and got all 10 of them.

I still have $105 left over to play with when the market opens to fill my final 3 slots... although I figure week 2 I'll be spending some of that cash to upgrade here and there... especially if some of the studs have a bad opening week and see their prices dive, etc.

For example, Lee Evans was someone I liked at his price who ended up selling out... but faces some really tough DBs in Denver week 1. If he has a bad first week, he could definitely sell off a bit since he's obviously a well-owned player at this point.

By round 4
I drafted Garrard, R. Bush, T. Bell, and Gates... wanted to get some solid RBs with favorable week 1 matchups who could outperform their price... Garrard should appreciate unless he turns into an INT-monster, but neither Tennessee or Atlanta in weeks 1 and 2 are generally considered "elite" against the pass. I knew Gates would sell out and just wanted to have him as a plug-n-play TE
QB - P. Manning, Brees, McNabb, Rivers
RB - ALL of the top 11 most expensive RBs, except Travis Henry
WR - Chad Johnson, Harrison, Wayne
TE - Gates

Round 5
Eli Manning - has a pretty decent schedule through week 7... could outperform his price
RB - McGahee
WR - T.O.

Round 6
Nick Folk - $1... probably the only sub-$10 starting kicker... unless Gramatica gets the nod, he'll be free $$$
QB - V Young, Palmer
RB - Brandon Jacobs
WR - TJ Housh, Andre Johnson, V Jackson

Round 7
Jacoby Jones - Seems there's a ton of cheap #2 WRs... figured I'd grab a few and see how they pan out... $1 tough to beat
QB - Schaub, Garrard, Brady
WR - S Holmes
D - Bears

Round 8
Demetrius Williams... another cheap WR at $5
RB - T Henry

Round 9
Pittsburgh D - Cleveland week 1 could give me points as well as a $$$ increase
QB - Romo, Leinart
WR - Reggie Brown
TE - Tony Gonzalez
D - Green Bay, San Diego, Baltimore

Round 10
Roydell Williams - It was him or Patrick Crayton or Dennis Northcutt. I went with the $1 player over the $8 players. *shrug*
QB - Eli Manning
RB - Jones-Drew
WR - Lee Evans

Overall I was surprised how many players sold out compared to what others in this thread seemed to experience.

Haha... looks like Guru and I were in the same draft. ;)

The only kink I noticed was the queue seemed completely useless... it only worked once or twice when I accidentally clicked on a player, but never when I actually tried to drag someone there or click on a player I wanted LOL. Didn't matter though, I just used the "draft player" button and deleted anyone who accidentally showed up in my queue.

Managers are not required to field a full 10 player starting team if they think they can earn more points playing with a "light" team.

Nice insight Doug.

So, if the Market opens Tuesday, there is only two days to get your lineup ready for week 1 before Thrusday's games. With all the sell-outs, I'm wondering by not getting some more studlier players we could be losing not only the week, but never able to get the true studs because of sell-outs. I mean, what good will the money be w/o some real point producers. I do think some will eb a forced sell with downward pressure, but then it will be a fight to get them from those making money and not all of them will be sold. With a 17 week season--there is a major dilemma here of how to proceed.

Just did my draft. It went smoothly and simialr to Doug's draft--though a few differences. I was trying to cut and paste to help the future drafters tonight but it wouldn't let me.

I departed from my original idea and took Addai in the first and he quickly sold out. In the 4th I was thinking Colston and waited for about a minute before I took Roeth and may regret that. Colston sold out and I went with my three cheapie WRs. Will post more after my lineup page is posted and I can rememebr exactly who I took.

My thought is a lot of people didn't make the draft nor pre-ranked so all of teh high-prcied players would go first and those managers would have to sell them starting Tuesday. Albeit, didn't want to be shutout of any studly players at all.

I'll try to get the order right...

I took

Addai
Jacobs
Garrard

T. Bell
R. White
Dem. Williams
Jac. Jones
Pitt Def
M Crosby

Strategy was a mixture of value players/studlier/matchups. I chose not to draft a TE, but I will likely have one on my roster for week 1.

Addai
Westbrook
Gates
Garrard
Big Ben
Andre Johnson
Santonio Holmes
Jacoby Jones
Folk
Crosby

$62 left over - Addai, LT and Sjax went out in 1st round; all the top RBs were gone early. Folk actually went out in last round so people paying attention.

just finished my draft. didn't draft as many bargains as I had planned, but think I got some decent value.

steven jackson
marvin harrison
laurence maroney
brandon jacobs
vincent jackson
david garrard
alex smith
mason crosby
nick folk
javon walker

jackson, LT & addai sold out in the 1st round. I was going to take addai with my 2nd pick, but he was gone. no WR or QB sold out until round 3 I believe, so could have waited on harrison. about 10 RB's were sold out by the end of round 3. garrard sold out in round 6, which is the round I got him in. glad I clicked fast ! took alex smith for the week 1 matchup, and he actually did sell out in the 10th round. no kickers sold out, but took both $1 kickers to try to make some money. was planning on taking a cheap third WR in the last round, but had more money left than I had planned, so took the best available one left that fit in my budget. didn't draft a TE or a Def, but will deal with those after we see how the market goes on tuesday.

spent $296 out of the $300

I'd be curious of any opinions anyone has of my draft (on post #74), especially since I haven't followed football in about 10 years, and didn't really know what I was doing. I did do 3 - 4 hours of research and prep work to get ready, but it's difficult when you have no "feel" for the players, like I do in baseball.
