9.05 Devin Hester, WR, CHI
This was a hard pick. It was between Hester and Devery Henderson. Both players have big play potential. I thought with CHI trying to get Hester more involved on offence this year he had a better chance for more points

for Goatlocker 9.6 Randy McMichael, TE, STL
Made the pick and was immediately sorry.
Really should have taken Witten before he went off the board, but talked myself out of it.
I like the move to STL on one hand, but on the other hand, they sure have a lot of targets.
Guess I could have done worse, so just need to cross my fingers and hope with this one.

for beastiemiked 9.07 Keith Brooking, LB, Atl
Another pick where I wasn't exactly happy after making it. I was going to pull the trigger on Ronde Barber but figured I needed another top tier LB. Brooking is very consistent though he doesn't get enough of the bonus points, ints and fumbles, that other LB's get. He's another guy that I figured would provide me with solid points week in and week out rather than one huge week followed by 2 mediocre weeks.

9.08 Mike Furrey, WR DET
I was looking for a 3rd WR and I didnt see alot of great options. Furrey stood out to me with his 98 catches last year, and even though he will be relgated to 3rd WR with Detroit I think that he will still get alot of looks, as its obvious Kitna likes him. I've never had alot of luck with WR so I could be way off, but I'll take a chance on him.

for Greybear 9.09 Jerry Porter, WR, OakI chose to round out my starting WRs at this spot as I thought the available selections were getting thin with no. 1 WRs. So I chose Porter as he is first on Oakland's depth chart. He is a talented receiver who has not lived up to his potential as of yet. He spent some time on the bench last year and had some personality problems with the team's coach. This problem is now solved, so he has no excuses not to reach his full potential this year. Being the clear no. 1, he should be getting a lot of targets and put up decent numbers as my no. 3 WR.

9.10 Devery Henderson, WR, NO
Still filling out my receiving corps, and Henderson seems like a good choice for WR3. He ranked in the top 30 of WR last year in average fantasy pts per game, and should get more looks this year as the presumed opening day starter opposite Colston. A big play receiver. He filled in very nicely on my RIFC roster last year when Colston was hurt, which put him on my radar for this year. Now’s the time.
There are a few issues as well. Down with a hamstring injury in preseason, although that does not appear likely to impact his availability for opening day. Has dropped more passes than average, and that might open the door for someone to take his place if it manifests in the early going.
All in all, a good gambit for my third receiver with pick 122.

Welcome back Jason! I wanted him 21 picks ago but thought I could wait and it worked. lucky me gets the best defense lineman in our scoring format in the 9th round. he can be a monster and can put up 20 points in any given week. in such weeks he will be the difference if I am winning or losing.

9.12 Chris Hope, DB, TEN
I had Hope as my #2 rated DB behind McGee. I also have him projected out to score more points than any of the available LB's. Last year, he scored 142 points in our system (#4 DB), and with PacMan out (I feel I can mention his name even though he is undrafted), I expect more tackles given the weakened secondary. I also debated on Kerry Rhodes here because of his consistancy, but settled on Hope as I think he could be the top DB by seasons end.

9.13 Donnie Edwards, LB, SD
Preparing for this pick (with two picks till mine), I was surprised by the wealth of options out there. I narrowed it down to four primary choices, and starting checking the draft grid to see what positions were being filled only to see that 3 of my 4 had already been picked, and I missed them on my cheat sheets - d'oh. The lone remaining option was Edwards, so I was just glad he didn't go in the interim.

With the 3rd (Brady) pick, my draft strategy crashed over, since then I'm looking for the way out: 9.14 Kirk Morrison, LB, OAK Morrison has been a standout LB. Strong and consistent. That is, what I need!
10.01 Troy Williamson, WR, MIN Somebody has to catch passes in Minnesota and Williamson could be that guy. He is the No. 1 wideout since they have no other reliable options. Similarly my team.

10.02 Drew Bennett, WR, StL
biting the bullet here and taking my third wideout. There were four running backs that I see as having similar value. Chances are one or more of those might make it back to me. [it turns out two of them did...] Bennett will be in a decent situation in StL with more of a passing game than he has seen the past couple of seasons, so maybe he'll revert back to his 1000+ yard season. Trying to justify this pick, I noticed his bye week lined up advantageously with my other WR and TE's (for what that's worth).

10.03 Kevin Curtis, WR, PHI
Time to get my 3rd WR. I still think there are a lot of similar guys out there, but I just couldn't keep waiting and waiting, so, I went with who I thought would have the best year. The Eagles paid Curtis a ton of money to be WR2 opposite of Reggie Brown. The Eagles always seem to have a good offense for fantasy purposes, and for the past few years, their QB, RB, WR1, and WR2 have been solid contributors to fantasy teams around the world. I expect Curtis to contribute well to my team, and to be a nice deep threat similar to Donte Stallworth last year. Overall, I am very happy with this pick.

10.04 Ronde Barber, DB, TB Ronde Barber is Mr. consistency. his tackle totals for the last 4 seasons are: 81, 84, 83, 86. he is in line to achieve the 80+ mark for the 5th time in a row. add the occasional sack and some interceptions and you get the best individual defense player available.

10.05 Kerry Rhodes, DB, NYJ
I would have taken Jason Taylor if he had still been available. I thought about Taylor in round #9, but with two of the intervening teams still short a starting WR, I figured I’d better get my target WR3 nailed down first.
I don’t see any other DL that warrants a 10th rounder. I don’t see any backup RBs with enough potential to outrank some of my remaining starter openings. No reason to rush into a 4th WR. A backup QB is a possibility but I think I’ll wait; McNabb will be my guy as long as he’s healthy,... but there’s the rub.
I’ve had pretty good success in past RIFC’s at IDP, even though I’ll admit I have to rely more on published analysis for IDPs than for offensive players. Maybe that explains my success – no inherent bias to overcome.
Anyway, the two primary resources that I have come to rely for IDP both tout Rhodes as the #2 DB behind Adrian Wilson. I have one DB already (McGee), but I like to have a pair to preserve positional flexibility, even though LBs tend to outproduce DBs. And at this point, I have Rhodes projected better than any of the available LBs anyway.
I like RotoWire’s comment (not one of my preferred IDP resources, but one I do review): “Rhodes might be better in the fantasy world than on the field.”

10.06 Matt Leinart, QB ARI
Most of my logic was explained with my Ben Roethlisberger pick. Every manager after me had selected a solid QB in earlier rounds, so I knew that Leinart would get back to me after my 9.09 pick. I picked him to be the second member of my QBBC because of the talent surrounding him. Logically, if Boldin and Fitzgerald are ranked in the top 10 WRs, someone has to be getting them the ball. He did not play a full year last year, so he may not be totally well versed in the offence. However, his strenght of schedule ranks in the top 5 easiest, and he will be a great reliever / or starter, opposite Roethlisberger.

10.7 Champ Bailey, DB DEN
Here is the odd thing about CB's in fantasy football. The really good CB's arent good in fantasy because very few balls go their way. Bailey is easily the best shutdown corner in football, and the crazy thing is that he still has the numbers to back it up! He was top 3 in scoring among DB's who didn't return kicks last year. He's a game changer on the field, and hopefully he continues to get just enough throws to be that in fantasy as well.

for bmd 10.08 Isaac Bruce, WR, Stl
I had been eyeing Bruce for about a round or 2. He's one of those old vets that seems like they've been in the league for 20 years. He consistently puts up above average numbers and has been relatively healthy over the past few years. The influx of receivers in St. Louis will hurt his numbers but he'll still put up 800+ yards and 4-5 TD's. Almost picked Warrick Dunn here but decided I needed to fill my WR void.

for GoatLocker 10.9 Nick Barnett, LB, GB
I really like the way GB uses him in lining him up any where and every where.
He also has a tendency to be a great ball hawk and expect a good number of tackles.
Won't have a lot of sacks, but didn't draft him for those.
Sure fit in just fine.

for Bags 10.10 DeMarcus Ware, LB, DAL
This is a Homer pick. I might have a man crush on this guy. He is right there on talent level with Merriman. With Wade Philips running a more aggressive style of defense Ware could lead the league in sacks. Ware will put up a few dud games but with his huge big play capability he should be a difference maker for me on defense.

for Smith32 10.11 Ben Watson, TE, NWE
Watson and LJ Smith were the last 2 TEs on my sheet before it gets pretty ugly. And it got ugly in another league where my starting TE has yet to be drafted in this league. LJ is a pretty big '?' injury-wise, so it was time to lock-up Watson. I decided to take him in Rd 10 in fear that I_A_C would take him on the turn.
I don't really know what to expect from Watson. The Patriots offense is vastly different from last year, so it is hard to say. Watson seems to be a good athlete, and the way Brady spreads it around, I think Watson will get enough points to trail the Tier II TEs by less than a point per week.

for holt 10.12 Warrick Dunn RB ATL
Dunn will be the starting RB again this year. That in itself is enough to warrant spending a 10th rd pick on him. Reports say he's looking great in training camp. He will of course split carries with Norwood, but still, there's a good chance he'll pile up over 1000 yds again. For as little as I'm hoping to need him, that's fine by me.

10.13 – Brett Favre, QB, GB
I’ve penciled in Favre in this slot since Rivers went off the board. I wouldn’t have minded getting a QB much earlier, but it seemed that the good value always went off the board before my pick came up. With the backup QB run cranking up and IAC also needing a starter, I didn’t feel comfortable waiting any longer to grab him.
Favre’s durability and ability to rise to the occasion are legendary. After the disappointment of last season, I think that both he and Green Bay will rebound and play a lot better to send him off properly. Unlike my QB that I’ve had the past two years in this format, I don’t expect him to be in a jail cell when the playoffs start.

10.14 Jay Cutler, QB, DEN Ho hum, Ho hum… do I really got to take a QB? ;) Well… as far as positives go, Denver has improved their running game with the addition of Travis Henry. Also, in limited play last year, Cuttler managed to avg 12.4fp/game (12th). True, it's a small sample size, but hopefully with more time to develop, and maybe even a better offense, he can improve on those #s. Last year, I also held off till late in drafting my QB, and that came back to bite me, as "undrafted" proceeded to miss a whole lot of time with a concussion. At least Cutler wouldn't seem to have the same risk factor as an "aged" veteran.

11.01 Wes Welker, WR, NE I had to do a little double checking, as I thought maybe he was already drafted... but nope, I must have been thinking of Hester back in the 9th round. Last year, Welker went in the 8th round, and proceeded to put up #s that ranked him 14th in our league. Now in NE, it's a little "unknown" how Belichick will use him. Reports out of NE seem to suggest that he'll be frequently target by Brady out of the slot. The real question, is how much work he'll see in the return game. That puts him as a relatively high risk pick, but the upside is pretty high as well.

11.02 – Sean Jones, CB, CLE
Time to plunge into the IDP pool. I’ve never been one to spend early draft picks on IDPs as I’ve always had a lot of confidence in my ability to spot good sleepers and get them cheap while stockpiling positions I’m not so good at evaluating. Since I don’t see any real value jumping out at me at any other positions, it was time to start grabbing guys.
My first IDP is not much of a sleeper. I picked up Jones last year after my previous DB went down with a torn ACL, and he rewarded me with a great season. Since I had him at #2 on my DB board and a fair amount ahead of those behind him, I was very pleased to welcome him back to my squad. He should have plenty of opportunities to tackles tired running backs after the front seven has been shredded, just like last year.

for holt 11.03 Troy Polumalu, DB, PIT
Along with being a Rams fan I'm also a Steelers fan, so this is a homer pick. I believe Polamalu is one of the best defensive players in the game, but obviously that doesn't always translate into great fantasy points. His fantasy scoring was equally bad to Roy Williams' last season (about 6 pts a game).
What I should have done is taken Ted Ginn. Even though this was my first IDP of the draft, it was still a stupid decision to take one here. I could get a similar level of production off the waiver wire. I usually don't take defensive players when there is what I consider to be quality offense available, but I sure screwed this one up.

11.04 Eli Manning, QB, NYG
This will be more of a "rant"-ionale. I don't like Eli. He just has a look on his face like the kid in Little League that is only there because his dad told him he had to play. And Archie's whole "my son is too good to play for that crappy team (San Diego)" is now as laughable as Bud Selig trying to contract the Twins because they "couldn't compete". In hindsight, the Chargers were too good to be saddled with a QB like Eli.
Oh wait, I picked this guy. Well, somehow, and I have no idea how, only 3 QBs threw more TD passes than Eli last year. Like the TE position, it gets pretty scary in the next tier, and Eli's schedule is favorable when Romo has his bye and plays CHI and NWE, which is the primary reason I picked him. And the Giants are going to suck this year, so I think Eli is going to be forced to throw the ball around like Jon Kitna. If Romo gets hurt or doesn't pan out, I think Eli can score enough pts to give me a chance.

for bmd 11.07 Chris Henry, RB, TEN
Henry was one of the backs vying for the starting RB role for Tennessee. It doesn't look like he'll win the job now but when I selected him he was still in contention. He has the most potential of any of the backs for the Titans so I imagine he'll get carries and maybe win the job down the road. I just hope I don't have injuries and am forced to drop him before he gets a chance to shine.

11.08 Jared Allen, DL KC
He was the second highest scoring DL last year and was about as good as any other IDP on the list. He gets most of his points via tackles which means he will be more consistent than many of his fellow DL's. He will be serving a 2-game suspension at the beginning of the season, and I admit that I forgot about this when drafting him. However, it will be only 2 games and I can find a fill-in easy enough. Last season I used my backup DL almost the entire season and he was the last player I picked in the draft.

I had targeted Randy McMichael at this position and was disappointed when I saw him come off the board at 9.06, which I thought might be a bit early for him, although I do believe he will put up solid numbers with his move to St. Louis. With only three teams without a TE, I thought I should make my selection before I have to go digging around for someone yet another tier down. With 56 receptions, 657 yards and 5 TDs last year, I am expecting similar – if not better – numbers this year. McNabb is healthy, which should help matters plus if L.J. can fix his case of the dropsies (at 5 years in the league this should definitely be a point that he can improve), L.J. could definitely improve his production to be closer to a top 5 TE this year, instead of a top 10 guy.

11.10 Carolina defense
Last year, the Panthers were widely considered one of the top defenses in preseason rankings. Didn’t work out that way. They were also the first defense drafted in last year’s RIFC. Fortunately, I took Baltimore in round 13 (the eighth defense drafted), and then San Diego in round 22. They ended up ranked #1 and #4 using our scoring format. I wish I could tell you I had that all figured out in advance. But I simply went with the best available at the time, and lucked out.
This year, I was hoping to score one of the top 2 defenses (Balt or Chi), in spite of last season’s lesson about Carolina. But, ‘twas not to be. Five defenses have been taken so far. It’s not lucky round #13 yet, but I’m getting an itch to take a defense.
If Baltimore turned out to be last year’s Carolina, maybe Carolina can be this year’s Baltimore. Aside from that logic, I like the looks of most of their schedule this year. There are a few weeks that look troublesome, but I think I can find another defense later in the draft to fill in those weak spots.

11.12 Pittsburgh Defense
I have been targeting the Steelers for a while now and wanted to see 5-7 defenses go off the board before I took them. They may have lasted a little bit longer to me, but they are a defense I think highly of and would take early.
Why the Steelers? Well, they are consistently a Top 10 defense, and the best part of finishing 3rd in your division? You get a pretty weak schedule, including: Browns, Bills, Niners, Cardinals, Browns (again), Jets, and Dolphins. Another plus is that, of their two games, they play the best team in their division (Ravens) in Week 17, which is nice. I exp[ect 10-15 points per game from this unit throughout the season.

Ok, my theory with this pick was that I wasn't going to win this league with a DB or team defense pick in the 12th round, but I might lose it if I was stuck without a running back. So, for my second consecutive backup running back pick, I chose the best backup running back in the league. This way I'm not stuck without a back in week 4, and should be positioned well for injuries - and, of course, this pick could be huge should another team be able to coax the Chargers to trade Turner.

12.03 Ted Ginn Jr, WR, MIA
I had been looking at Ginn for a while. Wes Welker was a great fantasy WR last year as the Dolphins WR3 and return man. Ginn was drafted by the Dolphins to fill Welker's shoes (and then some). If he can catch 2-3 passes a game plus by the Dolphins KR and PR, which I believe he will be, (with his speed, it'd be dumb of the Dolphins not to use him there), then I believe this to be a steal of a pick. Unfortunately, this pick does give me two Dolphin WR's, which I am none to thrilled about.

12.04 Gary Brackett, LB, IND call me crazy for taking another IDP without having depth at RB and WR but thats what I just did. looking through all the talent available and their bye-weeks there were only a few middle-linebackers left that don't have a bye in week 9 and 10 where I already have 2 IDPs each. thats the main reason why I signed Brackett. a good thing of having bye-week problems late (weeks 8-10) is that I have lots of time to find the best replacement.

12.05 Adrian Peterson RB, Chi
My “real” job was as an actuary, and I still have risk management blood coursing through my veins. So when I drafted Cedric Benson in round 2, I decided I really had to get Peterson as a handcuff. Maybe the 12th round is too soon. In past years, I’ve been burned a few times by waiting too long and having my handcuff snatched in front of me. I really don’t see any other available name on the board that offers as much value for my team as he does, and the way some RIFC managers accumulate RBs, I simply didn’t want to play roulette.

for Greybear 12.06 Eddie Kennison, WR, KC
At this point, I thought it was time for me to look at some depth at WR, as I had my three starters selected but no one to relieve them. Granted, Eddie is getting a bit long in the tooth, but he has the speed necessary to stretch the field vertically as evidenced by his 16.7 yards-per-catch average since his arrival in Kansas City. He is their No. 1 receiver and should get a lot of targets. He has started 44 consecutive games over the past three seasons which is a testament to his durability. All in all, I was happy to be able to pick up a No. 1 WR in the 12th round.

12.07 Joe Horn, WR ATL
One of the last #1 WR left on the board, I was a little surprised to see him still here. Yes, he is old, and yes his QB is not all that great (look at Chris Chambers behind said QB last season), but he is still the #1 target for the Falcons so he should put up decent numbers, especially for a #3-#4 WR.

for bmd 12.08 Patrick Crayton, WR, DAL
I was very excited to see Crayton fall to me. I almost selected him with my previous pick and needed him to handcuff my 3rd WR position. Crayton has the potential to put up huge numbers if either Owens or Glenn get injured/suspended. Even if they don't he'll still put up decent numbers and should give me a little protection in case one of my other WR's goes down or starts to suck(looking at Bruce). |

for GoatLocker 12.09 Michael Jenkins, WR, ATL
Not overly happy with this pick either, but could surprise.
And of that I would really be happy.
Basically looking at him as strictly a Bye week fill-in.
And who knows, maybe I can find another WR buried somewhere.

for Bags 12.10 Matt Schaub, QB, HOU
I had a few QB’s in mind to be my backup, most of them went a few rounds before I was ready to draft them. I wanted a backup with a guaranteed spot, a good SOS against the pass, and good upside. Schaub fits into all of my needs for a b/u QB. He is unproven but should do well with Johnson catching and Kubiak calling the plays

12.11 Gibril Wilson, DB, NYG
This was in some ways a blown pick. 2 of my IDP projection sources had Wilson in the top tier of DBs, and since there seemed to be a run on them, I decided to take Gibril. In hindsight, I should have taken a LB (namely Posluszny - and can I insert a random spelling of that?) or gamble on somebody with boom-or-bust potential. This league is so well balanced that it's going to be the person who finds the '07 version of '06 Colston who will win. And I doubt his name is '07 Gibril. But stockpiling solid IDPs in these rounds isn't the worst thing in the world either, especially when your QB2 has great leadership qualities.

for Holt 12.12 Brandon Jones WR TEN
Definitely time to take a 4th WR. Jones likely isn't going to put up huge numbers, but Tennessee has to throw to ball to someone. There's a chance that he becomes the number 1 guy and gets a thousand yards. There's also a chance that he ends up sitting on the bench. Either way, Lord willing, I won't have much need for a WR4. This is a speculative pick. Bench wr's are kinda the same as IDP's to me. Like throwing darts at a dartboard. A bunch of waiver wire fodder.

for Beezer 12.13 – Andra Davis, LB, CLE
Hmm, two Cleveland defenders. I’d be more concerned about that if I hadn’t had both of them on my team last year with solid results. Davis is a run-stopping machine on a team that doesn’t stop the run much, so that means a lot of tackles. He averaged just shy of 8 FP/G last year and should do about the same this year.

12.14 Ernie Sims, LB, DET Coming up to these two picks, I had no doubt in my mind what position I was targeting. It was going to be LB-LB, and I'd try to find the best value. Sims had a lot expectations to produce last year as the starting WLB in the Lions Cover-2. His lack of "big plays" limited his #s last year. Now in his second year, I'm hoping he can come out and crack top 10 type #s.
Best Pick of Round 12: 12.06 Eddie Kennison Stretch of Round 12: 12.10 Matt Schaub
