This running back is amazing.. Stops on a dime, leaps over defenders, plows through defenders, out runs defenders... Think he had 7 TD's in one game. He is a human highlight reel.
Couple plays that pop out at me is at 3:45 and 4:50
Sam McGuffies is his name, verbal committed to Michigan. Being a GA fan, glad he didn't decide on Florida.

some pretty amazing runs there. he sure makes those HS defenders look inept. wonder what his 40 time is.

found some info saying he runs a 4.32 40. that's some great acceleration he shows in that video. it's a shame that he's going to play for Michigan.

The guy is TINY! He can't be over 5'6" and probably weighs 150 lbs. I don't see him being able to take many hits, but since he's going to the Big Ten, he really doesn't have to worry about that.
plows through defenders
Um, I just watched the video, certainly didn't see any of that.
Vaulting the defender is pretty cool, but someday someone will snap him in two while he is floating above his teammate.

he's listed at 6'0" 188lbs bench max 355 lbs
still in hs. I don't think size is an issue for him.

He's very quick/talented but his line was fantastic.
For perspective the Jayhawks have a guy that *averaged* 7 TDs for a while his senior year (finished with 57) at 10.4 ypc and he's looked no better than above average at the college level.

There is absolutely no chance he is six feet tall. He looks like a kick off returner to me.

Cant recall the guys name. (Played about the same time as "Refrigerator Perry".) Called him "Ice Cube" cause he was too small to play in the NFL. (or so some thought.) Outstanding return man as I recall and a real threat out of the backfield.
Watching this kid run, I dont see his size being an issue for him.

I would argue that Noel Devine's HS video's were even better for a small scat-back type of player.
He's a true freshman on West Virginia this year.

Oh, the Kiss of Death! When Sarge makes a football prediction...
Guys like Joe Morris and Dave Meggett survived in the NFL because they had nuclear powerplants for thighs.
TacoJohn is right, what I noticed when watching his highlight reel was how huge the holes his line blew out for him. The kid is a track star and will likely be very entertaining as a kick returner. He'll be on the training table in multiple pieces as a running back.

If he makes it to the NFL, you better believe he will have done so because he learned how to avoid direct hits. He could very well be an Eric Metcalf/Leon Washington kind of player.

Was flipping through the most recent Sporting News. They had the top 101 recruits listed for 2008. McGuffie was listed 93rd. Considering how many HS players there are out there, that's still pretty damned impressive.
TSN listed him at 6-0, 188 (presumably from the HS or whatever other source listed him there). Yeah right!

If you watch his commit video he looks pretty tall...6' could be legit.
Who was the last great white running back? Who was the last good white RB?
He looked like he has good speed, good cutting ability but really did not lok extraordinary to me...my brother is a HS football coach and has some incoming freshmen that is supposedly incredible. He went to some camp this summer and left with like a dozen division 1 scholarship offers before he has played a high school game...not the powerhouse schools (yet) but still incredible for an incoming freshmen...will be interesting watching them this fall.

great acceleration is what he has, along with good instincts. that being said, there must be a lot of HS players who could put together a pretty nice highlight video.
I think it's been about 20 years since the NFL has seen a good white RB. John Riggins. There have been guys like Goings, H.Evans, Alstott... hmmm.
It doesn't bode well for a guy like McGuffies, but you never know.

Alstott wasn't that big coming out of high school. He worked out likea fiend while at Purdue and put on alot of muscle which is what enabled him to make a career in the NFL.

Really Alstott was a fullback...
Whoe was the last great white running back? Better question who the last great speedy white running back?
Riggins and players like Czonka were really more or less glorified fullbacks...
Odds seem stacked against this kid...

Noel Devine's coming out party tonight. 2 rushes for 108 so far.

Who was the last great white running back?
That was answered in Post 45 in this thread.
I still get a laugh from the third person listed.

Brian Leonard Baby!
Seriously, we had this one guy from around the way (Terrence Glover) who set all kinds of CVC (Mercer County/Hamilton, NJ) records and would just bulldoze over EVERYBODY scoring TD after TD. Got a full ride to Penn State and didnt go anywhere after that and we were all shellshocked. I take anything I see from HS with a grain of salt at that position unless you already look the part and have the speed to match it. Just wait till he tries that shit on a USC defender...he'll be featured on a NFL Jacked Up session real quick...When all is said and done, he'll most likely be a Safety (assuming he can put on the 20 pounds in college).
SW - if healthy, Devine will be a heisman winner a year or two down the road.
