Gridiron Challenge
Private group: BBC Regs on a Raft
Salary cap game; select a roster of 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 DEF
Scoring begins with Week 1 of the NFL season. Each roster slot is frozen at the kickoff of the game in which the player or team is playing. You can change your selections at any time during the week until the kickoff of the player or team's particular game ... or until ESPN locks the players. Be especially wary of a premature lock on the Sunday when we change from daylight saving to standard time.
Prizes

Good luck.

ESPN's College Bowl Mania is now accepting entries. This is a FREE game.

Private Group that you are welcome to join: BBC Regs on a Raft
Password: whenpigsfly

Please read the Official Rules and How to Play sections.

Locktime:

Exactly at the start of the first bowl game scheduled for December 20, 2007 at 9:00 p.m. ET in San Diego, CA. You will not be able to make a selection for any game once the game has locked.

Making Your Selections:

Pick the winner of each game and predict the final team scores of the National Championship Game as the game's primary tiebreaker.

You accumulate points from the date of your first winning pick.

I signed up a made an initial team, now I tried for several days to back and tweak my roster and have been getting the "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" when trying to "EDIT" my roster... sent numerous things to ESPN help and heard nothing back.

Great first (and last) experience with ESPN games.

GO: Make sure you log in through the home page for the game, not a bookmark/favorite to your team. Also try the usual techniques, such as clearing your browser's cache (temporary internet files), before surrendering.

Sometimes ESPN's fantasy sites will be "unavailable" when scoring updates are being run, but that's not the case for this game.

IIRC BH, we did discuss this a couple years ago. Multiple managers within our league found themselves repeatedly unable to login on ESPN, often times for several days in a row.

I repeatedly sent requests to ESPN for assistance and I honestly don not remember hearing back from anyone other than your inquiries here on this forum when I or others in the league posted about it at the time.

Upshot is; the experience was bad enough, that I have yet to give ESPN another shot, and honestly dont know that I will.

blue hen, here's a head scratcher: Why is Dan Alexander, RB, in the Gridiron Playoff Challenge pool ... and at a higher value (7.6) than any other player in the game? According to ESPN's stats, he played only one season (2001) in the NFL.

Please note than ESPN Fantasy Football is free again this year. In the last two years, since the new system has been in place, there have been very few issues, so you should have a good experience this year. I urge you to give it a shot. At the very least, sign up for a public league, and see if the game is up to your standard. Since it's free, you have nothing to lose, right?

Also, if you have an internet-capable cell phone, you can follow your team on it, and you can also play the Pickem games (and Streak For The Cash) on your phone as well.

And you can send your feedback to me (email above). I just don't want to hear things like "A couple years ago..."

ESPN's Super Pick 'em

The object of the game: Correctly select the outcome to as many of the questions as possible. A correct selection counts as one point. The maximum number of points that can be earned is 20 points.

Sample questions:
Which team will score first? (Select: Arizona -or- Pittsburgh)
Will there be a defensive or special teams touchdown? (Select: Yes -or- No)
Will Bruce Springsteen open halftime with "Born in the USA"? (Select: Yes -or- No)
Will the combined score be an even or odd number? (Select: Even -or- Odd)

Locktime: The scheduled kickoff time of Super Bowl XLIII (Sunday, February 1, at 6:00 p.m. EST). Never trust ESPN's "clock" ... set your picks early.

Tiebreakers, copied and pasted directly from the game site:
Tiebreaker #1 - The entry that correctly predicted the winning pick of the Tiebreaker Game is considered the winning entry.
Tiebreaker #2 - An entrant's predicted Tiebreaker Game score is compared to the actual Tiebreaker Game. The differences between the predicted scores and actual scores for each team are added (positive numbers only). The entry with the smallest total difference is considered the winning entry.
Tiebreaker #3 - The entrant whose predicted score for the winning team is closest to the actual score of the winning team without being over the total is considered the winning entry.
Tiebreaker #4 - The entrant whose date of entry creation was recorded in the system the earliest. [What? E$PN doesn't have a coin to flip?]

Prizes:

Grand Prize - One (1) Prize: $3000 Best Buy gift card. Gift card restrictions may apply. (ARV: $3,000.00)
Second Place - One (1) Prize: $1100 Best Buy gift card. Gift card restrictions may apply. (ARV: $1,100.00)

Will Bruce Springsteen open halftime with "Born in the USA"? (Select: Yes -or- No)

Easiest NO ever... He NEVER plays that song. And its an anti-war song so probably not a good fit at this time even he did still play it in concert.

So you're betting that he won't play it at all? I think he will. The song is sort of like Alive by Pearl Jam. It had a bad meaning, but it's taken on a different meaning over the years.

I don't know if the Super Bowl folks are going to influence his setlist any (like when you are on an award show and they make you play a song you don't really want to, but I would think at this stage in his career he calls the shots). But... he hasn't played that song regularly on any tour since the Tunnel of Love tour in 1988. He HATES to play it. And the few times he does play it - he does a stripped down acoustic/piano version of it which bears little resemblance to the famous one.
