0 Subject: RotoHog Week 1

Posted by: TacoJohn
- [422551921] Sun, Sep 09, 2007, 12:12

Old thread was getting a bit bulky.

I've created a RotoHog Gameday Chat that I publicized on my blog and in the RH forum. Password is jibjab. I'm not sure if it'll get off the ground this week, but if it does I figured some of you would want to jump in.

I left $39 aside for pick-ups today. I honestly wish I'd left more just in case. I'm just ready to get started though. How much did you guys save?

I've got squat left aside.

Full disclosure: I have totally mismanaged funds this week. I never did get the draft to work so I started from scratch. That didn't really hurt me. All the transactions and swapping in and out trying to make money hurt me. I should have picked a single lineup and rode it until this morning.

At least I'm happy with the lineup I have. Now we'll see how it plays out.

$3.85 left.
Did much as Ender did, but from the draft side.
I pretty well drafted who I intended to play and then stayed with that.
I did draft early, so I did do a few buys and sells to pick up the guys that rose to the level of value later on.

I also am happy with my team and only today and tomorrow will tell.

didn't think about putting money aside initially, but wish I had now. but at this late juncture I don't want to weaken my already skeptical lineup to do it, so just going with what I have.

got a whole $1.10 left.

Figures.....I traded away the GB defense - Touchdown!

I kept about $18 aside. Drew Carter hasn't moved though since scoring his touchdown. Hmmmmm.

Pitt D put up a nice score, but there were some other good scores by lesser priced Ds as well. Not sure whether to sell Pitt on Tuesday AM, but next two weeks are home against Buffalo and SF... I'll likely hold.

Glad I switched Crosby in to be a starter... I may sell Folk if I see a better place for that $$$. Right now I've got one roster slot and about $6.50 available... thinking of picking up Drew Carter, but kind of waiting on these afternoon games since his price doesn't seem to be jumping much yet. Broussard and Avant might be options too. My hunch is a lot of people spent their $ on active players and can't make moves until Tuesday.

Still real intersted to see what happens with Bush on Tuesday AM.

Jacoby Jones and Colley weren't such smart moves--but thus far those are my only complaints. Very happy with the rest of my team.

I had a few duds (Jones among them), but I figure I'm average for the day right now. We'll see ho wI stack up in the morning.

Ward is honestly a must by at this point and Graham and/or Pittman is probably wise as well.

Well Jacobs and Crayton didn't turn out so well either. At least Crayton still has a chance--but being up so much they will run it.

With three open bench spots, I have picked up Ward, Graham and Broussard (Jacksonville WR) - I agree that Ward is the must have and I dropped Drew Carter for him.

Done for the week, 169 Points from Garrard, Roth, Addai, Westbrook, S. Smith, S. Holmes, Curry, Gates, Crosby and Denver.

My WR's all busted

Drew Bennett - did he even play?
Jacoby Jones & Reggie Brown combined for 5.1pts

Overall I got 116.06
Team Value of $343.33

Picked up Ward & Broussard. Still have 1 extra slot but just $5.23 to spend, don't see anything worth the 50 cents

J, if you don't have Graham you're gonna want to grab him. Caddy is questionable for Week 2. Even as a questionable starter Graham has gotta be worth $10+.

I put up 125 pts and have my team value up to about $382. I'm hoping I can sneak up around $420 by next Sunday and get pretty star-studded.

I went with stud WRs (Steve Smith, TO, Walker) and it paid off at least this week.

I've got a preliminary version of sortable stats up now for RotoHog.

http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/fstats.cgi?04p

I've done some preliminary testing, but I haven't checked everything fully. On the surface, it looks to be doing what I expect.

A few notes:
I plan to update prices daily, prior to market opening. I'll only save one set of prices per week, however. Those will be the Tuesday morning opening prices. For the balance of the week, all price changes will be shown relative to that (Tuesday morning) price.

The individual player pages also have RH point data now, but do not yet have price data. That will be added shortly. Again, I'll update prices each morning, but will not save the daily prices during the week.

I'll also work up data for the "Opposing position" analysis. This should already work in the sortable stats (although it's not particularly useful until we have some more weeks of data.) The individual player page showing this data shows only TSNP for now. I'll be adding a table for RotoHog as well.

I have no plans to incorporate RotoHog data into the Assimilator. I could conceivably be persuaded to do so if there is demand for it - but I'm not sure that's the case.

The page which lists points for the week has not yet been set up. I'll include both TSN and RotoHog data on that page. For now, you can effectively get the same info using the sortable stats, but I'll be updating that separate page as well.

Rayner (KC) is now the cheapest kicker on the board, a good $7 behind the median kicker price.

I'm too embarassed to mention my team value. I'll follow pretty much any solid suggestion at this point :P I do have a much better game plan and grasp of how to make it happen. Week 1 was a $$$ bust for me, but I should be pretty average point-wise I believe.

ukula, great tip. He should see at least a few dollars in gains. Especially since Crosby and Folk are probably going to keep going up. He'll probably be on my "super six pack" of must buys tonight.

Anyone else deathly afraid of a major injury given RH's new policy of manipulating prices? I mean if I take LT and he breaks his leg am I going to lose $80?

By the way, I'm going to try to get the chat going again tonight if people are in there. We had a decent group of 10-14 yesterday, pretty low-key, but it was nice I thought.

I had a pretty good week 1 despite Reggie's flop (4.4 points). 135 points so far with Boldin and Demetrius Williams going tonight. $373 last check.

Bush, Jacoby Jones, Demetrius Williams (depending on performance tonight) are my possible sells on Tuesday AM.

Sounds like Eli's alright and as the second-highest scoring QB of the week (so far) I wouldn't think there'd be too much downward pressure. He's actually up 34 cents today.

It's not like Raynor is at $1. He's jsut a little lower than Crosby and obviously isn't as good as him--hence his free agent status. Now if Elling gets signed ($3) I might be swayed to get him as the $1.06 or whatever it cost him to buy and sell wouldn't nec. be a waste of time and a roster spot.

This is kind of speculation at this point, but you gotta love the source. Potentially could be a good chance to get in early on some big gains on Jared Lorenzen.

FROM ROTOWORLD:

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Eli Manning will miss a month with a separated shoulder.

Bizarre. The New York Daily News and Newsday both just reported Manning's injury wasn't nearly that serious. We'll trust Mortensen here though. Manning owners should wait for news to continue to come out before deciding what to do with him. It's rough news for Plaxico Burress, Derrick Ward, and Jeremy Shockey, as the offense is likely to slow down under Jared Lorenzen or Anthony Wright

I can't sell Eli until tomorrow, but I did pick up Lorenzen... not for an actual start, but just because I expect him to appreciate in $ more than a buck.

Demetrius with a 21 yard catch in the opening drive is a good start. If he were to find endzone tonight I'd be real happy.

Ref, I agreed with you to a degree at first. But really Crosby is still very underpriced at his spot and that's several dollars ahead of Rayner.

Even if he's only going to gain $3-$4 that's pretty good, especially when it's a nearly sure thing and you're only tying up 10 bucks.

I picked up Rayner but dropped him for a transaction loss to pick up Lorenzen. Rayner will be held down this week by the fact that the Chiefs play against the Bears. Lorenzen, on the other hand, is a much better bet for price appreciation and speculation.

At this point, my team value is $369 and my three bench players that I'm holding for appreciation are Ward, Lorenzen and Graham

TJ, CB illustrted my point. Even if you do make 3 or 4 bucks on him--which is pushing it--he still takes up a roster spot and cash where you could make more. It's an opportunity cost that I have no interest in at this point.

Also, Crosby is going for 12.93 and Raynor is 10.66. Add in the transaction fee and he's basically a buck cheaper than Crosby. Who in their right might would buy Raynor over Crosby?

I see Crosby and Rayner going up tomorrow. And with 13 roster spots I think he's worth a grab. I dunno, maybe he's borderline, but a $10 kicker? I'll take that.

I'm also holding Lorenzen, Graham, and Ward. I chose those 3 primarily because I think if RH were to intervene it would be on one of those. I don't really think they will though. On the other hand I wouldn't be *that* stunned to see all the big performers get nudged up by RH.

I posted by top 6 (+3) pickups for tomorrow on my site. They're fairly obvious choices I think (save Rayner).

Sitting at $386 as of market close, I think this will be a very profitable week though.

The big question to me now is when to sell. I don't plan on ever starting Derrick Ward. I've made $24 and at $30 I don't know how high he'll go. Similar for other players... hadn't intended to pick up Peterson or Moss necessarily but there were going up in a hurry this morning so I nabbed them and am already up $10 each.

Had a few trade processing errors in the opening 5 minutes on both buy and sell side (moreso sell since I was doing those first) but it seems to have cleared up.
