Whats up with the green dot on the back of the QB's helmet? I just noticed it this week. They all have it, in the same place, same shade of green. |

Means they have the radio communication device in their helmet.

Only one dot (communication device) can be on the field at one time.

I think there might have been an instance where a backup QB and the starting QB are on the field at the same time, allowing two people to transmit the play, providing a potential unfair advantage.

Does the defense get a green dot guy too?

Nope. New England ws one of the guys to vote against it. Wonder why...hmmmmm...Anyhow the vote was two shy of passing I think. You'd think they'd want to keep things even. But cracking down on pass interference/illegal contact, while not penalizing most offensive holding should tell you that the NFL is more offensive-minded going forward.

[5], the defense does NOT get a green dot. The main reason is that defenses switch up a lot based on the schemes they're running. That means that there's no one person who will be on the field every play and/or a single line of replacements for that player.
With the offense, there's only one QB and a distinct line of back-ups.
Well, unless you throw LT into the mix.

I thought most teams had a consistant player calling the defense, usualy one of the linebackers. It does seem odd to give one side of the ball an advantage over the other.
