0 Subject: How many ways to lose in fantasy sports

I know a bunch of games have been influenced by odd happenings in games. Most recently, many were influenced by the Brian Westbrook kneel down. Owners of Westy and the Dallas D were affected.

Tonight, I lost a playoff game when Ryan Longwell missed the extra point on MNF. Going into the game I needed 9 points from Longwell to win and advance. His 2 40+ field goals gave me 8 points. But after the Vikings scored their first TD, he missed the point after try. That extra point gives me the lead, but he missed it, so now I'm down by two. Of course, when they score again, they go for two and I wind up losing the game.

I've been playing fantasy sports long enough to see plenty of games lost on crazy plays. The purpose of this thread is to document these game deciding plays and laugh about them later bacause they certainly are not very funny at the time.

Feel free to rant if you must.

In a pay league I am in I had Westy.
I still won my playoff game.
I feel bad for my opponent.....he had Brady averaging 32 in our scoring format and posting a 2.

The real story is my opponent in next week's championship game:
Team A leads by 8 points going into tonights game and has the Minny QB.
Team B has both Minny RB's
T Jackson hits the reciever and he gets tackled at the 1.
Give the ball to AP for the score.
A 12 point swing and team B wins by 3.
Three feet is the difference between playing for 950/550 and 350/150.
That has got to hurt.

Well the Hasselback-->Branch toss at the end of that game saved my season... so I'm sure it ruined a few others as well.

Re 1...same sort of thing with Mohammed. Replay slows him down at the "1/4 yd line" so his TD reception gets negated and a 3rd tier player gets the call to run it in for the Bears TD.

Looking at what Westie did....it was actually a brilliant move. (from the genuine games standpoint.) Had he run it in, its 17-6. Not beyond fe4asible, that Romo would have finally hit his target and gotten it to TO for an 80 yd TD. Make it 17-13. Now an onside kick and Dallas would have had the opportunity to win. Stoipping at the 1, 1st down, 2 mins to go and Dallas out of time-outs...no way for Philly to lose. Yes, I have Westie in two leagues and yes, I'd have liked the TD points. Doesnt matter though, since I'm in the "consolation" bracket...again.

In every single league I'm in, Westie's move cost his team the win--including me in RIFC AAA1. There are odd happenings all the time, but I've never seen a guy all alone just refuse to score. Oh well. The way I see it, you probably had ample ways to score more from other players. Still stinks though.

Westbrook's now infamous move cost the following points (making reasonable assumptions)...

Westbrook - 6.1 points
Dallas Defense - saved them several points

Dallas passing offense - would have had a 2 minute drill vs. a prevent defense for some easy garbage points
Tony Romo, Terrell Owens, Witten especially.

Like Sarge, I am a consolation bracket guy this year, but my good friend in one my leagues lost because of Westbrook's smart move. The thing is, only a few RB's would of thought of doing what Westbrook did in this era of "personal achievement," and if that had been Tomlinson, Gore, S-Jax, Barber, Adrian Peterson, etc, I feel pretty sure that the majority would not have gone down (all specualtion of course).

So, my friend lost by 1.3 points because of Westbrook, but to take it further, he was up 7 points last night with his opponent having the Vikes D, Berrian, and Desmond Clark. Seemed like a lock he would lose. Somehow he had the game won, until that last interception by the Vikes, which gave his opponent two points and the 1.3 point victory.

Neddless to say, my friend is not very happy about this weeks events.

In the 1 league out of 3 that I didn't advance, it was my own lameness: I neglected to notice the weather in Cleveland and started Anderson, Edwards and Winslow. Dumbass!

This thread reminds me of a bad beat poker thread. "I had a full house but he pulled of the miracle straight flush"! lol

Teams with Brady have been stout all year. This was a good week to knock them out of the playoffs. My one Brady team somehow managed to survive. I'm praying for decent weather this week in NE.

Seeing as how I am against Brady this week in the finals... that probably bodes badly for me. He'll likely get rolling again.

There sure are a lot of teams that had Brady+ a bunch of nobodies and just cruised all year long. They certainly got exposed this past week. The one league I am in that still has 6 pt passing TD's he's just absolutely incredible. Like 150 points ahead of anyone else.

The crazy thing is that most teams who have Brady also have somebodies because he usually wasnt being taken until the late 3rd round.

I didnt really have any super-close games this year but I did make one mistake that cost me a regular season game, which would have given me a higher seed and the favorable matchups in the playoffs. There is alot of luck involved with fantasy football, considering the H2H format and small number of games. It is very difficult to project what a player is going to do from week to week, or even during a season. I drafted Willie Parker in the first round and he's lead the league in carries and something like 2nd or 3rd in rushing yards - with only two touchdowns and none since week 3 or so. It's just a head scratcher.

NH,

Maybe you should tell Parker to break a leg instead of wishing him good luck. At least it supposedly works in places like theater.

Uh oh, I see you tried that too...

NH, if I had lost my week 13 game to Slackjaw (I won by 9 points), I would have had 7th seed and you would have been bumped to 5th seed. So, if Slackjaw would have started the Panthers D instead of the Colts D in week 13, you'd be facing him in the Champ game right now, and I would have been eliminated in the round 1. Hope that makes you feel better. :D

Ben posted Brady-like numbers last night. I actually considered starting Ben this week over Brady in the championship game..... Yeah, right, for about 2 seconds.

It's impossible to justify benching Brady against the lowly Phins at home and the weather not supposed to be the factor that it was last week. Plus, Brady is not likely to put up 2 stinkers in a row.

The championship game is not the time to do something stupid.
