I know the week is not over yet, but just want to give some congrats now to everyone on a fine year and single out a few exceptional managers...
First to bj: dude, you have a very nice team and it is no shame to lose to you. You have been a force in all three of our leagues since you started and am glad I get to compete against you. Congratualtions on your first G20/24 win.
Slizz: First thanks to GO for first nominating you over a year ago. Glad you withstood my "battery of questions" and joined our leagues. You took a team who couldn't ever win and just missed the playoffs. You had never won a week 14 game and you won all three games--including the hottest team in the league this week in the Broncos.
CT: Hell of a run. I thought Brady was going to put you over the top. Harrison and Alexander didn't do you any favors but you still almost had it. Nice job.
Cards: Thanks for all you do. Another great season from your 49ers too.
mjd: Thanks for taking over. You had a nice season. 13-15 from a bare cupboard is pretty darn impressive.
I could go on. The league is what it is because of the managers. But I'd like to make one more thank you in this post...To all of the managers who wouldn't trade me a QB this year...THANK YOU!!! I thought back through the course of the year and I would have regretted those deals. One thing that Slizz sold me on when he was trying to push Favre to me was that even though he is a rental, he's an iron man. Who knew he'd be so damned good this year?!?!
RE: bj's commish work question This league has a lot going on, but I bring a lot of work on myself with all of the franchise records and stats. It's condense which is good and bad. Baseball is a grind which also is a LOT of work. The call-ups/send downs, the two drafts with the prospects, the many many trades for draft picks (which must be documented) take a lot of attention. But it's (usually) a labor of love. It's not a one-man job. But when the league is happy, we're generally happy.

Hey Ref/Cards,
I know this has no bearing on my Bills, but when does the draft lottery commence?
Just wanted to get a heads up so that I, along with the rest of the Gurupies can get their draftboards ready.
Also, I remember briefly discussing roster spots for the 2008 season with respect to expanding the IDP spots (3 position, 2 flex). Is this still something up for discussion?
If so, will we expand the # of keepers per squad to 10?
I know its definitely really early in the offseason, but hey...I like to plan! :)

They did it late last summer. I was curious if we would consider doing it the morning of the "real" draft in April. Would kind of sync up the offseason's a little, further mirroring the real NFL experience we are trying to replicate... and then you can see where you are picking and it would make watching the NFL Draft that much more exciting.
Also would give a few months more of potential trading once you know where you are are actually picking.

We tried to have discussions earlier last year and we found that people didn't want to discuss them until late. If there are any major changes (like adding additional IDP(s)) then I'm hopeful that whatever is decided we can live with for awhile. I really don't want major changes every year. That's why we worked so hard to try and get it right the first time.
As of now, there are 19 roster spots. 9 Keepers and a 10 round supplemental draft. We've had a couple suggestions that we discuss adding one or two IDP flex positions. This would be a major rules change that would require a 2/3 vote to pass. If the league would wish to add positions than the additional spots would simply be added to the end of the draft.
There has also been a question of adding another point to a sack. This example is a tweak and if it went to a vote would be a simple majority.
I don't have an opinion on these suggested discussion topics as of yet.
As far as the lottery goes, that really doesn't matter when we do that. But I would at least like to have committments from all 24 owners for the following year before we run that. If we do have to replace a manager, it would be nice if that new manager can witness that process. No one has resigned their team at this point for next year.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Equally great points by both GO and Ref.
I will disagree with GO though. I'd rather have a healthy roster going into week 1 rather than draft early on and hope nobody tears a knee in Training Camp/Preseason (Kenny Irons).
I think the scoring in this league is perfect as is. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Reference the games by Keith Bulluck (New Orleans) and James Harrison (Baltimore) who singlehandedly willed their team to a victory. They scored just as much as LT or Adrian Peterson did during their HUGE games.
The one thing I am definitely for is expanding the IDP spot from 4 players to 5. There was just too much quality out on the waiver wire this season. It shouldn't be like that in a league this deep. If we expanded the rosters, it might encourage more trading of IDPs or changing draft positions and vice versa. Just food for thought though...

whoops, my mistake :)
I second your opinion than! Unveil the winners as each pick is made.
Ex: When the Dolphins announce their first pick (Glenn Dorsey), we would unveil the lucky lottery winner. Then when the Rams pick, we announce who picks 2nd.
Seems pretty cool. I know I am a draft geek and watch the entire thing from start to finish, so I'll be around.

And then we can get video of Ref walking to the podium to announce each pick, posted via youtube :)
Yeah, I don't know about each pick - cause in the NFL that takes forever lol... But posting the order at noon would really make the day even more exciting. Then you know you have the #3 pick or whatever... you can watch all those great background video's on the players and hope they go to certain teams and feel like you are in your own little war room figuring out who you want to target.
I can certainly see where Ref is coming from regarding not having all the teams filled. Lets say we have a couple holes then its tricky to have the order before they are filled cause it may make 1 team more attractive to take over than another. On the other hand, seems like there isn't much turnover in this league - and the kind of manager we want wouldn't really care if he's taking over the #2 picking team vs. the #7 picking team. He's just looking to compete.

And we randomly assign them when there are multiple teams anyway, right? I think in G20 it was that way anyway. So that may not even apply to this scenario.

If there were multiple teams open at one time, we would do a random roll and let the winner pick the team they want. Again, no indication at this point of any teams leaving. Typically we don't hear about teams leaving until closer to the start of the season.

Yeah, thats a good idea, if we know everyone is set to return or have a hole to fill. Simply make that same request to the league prior to draft day in April.
I think a new manager would enjoy the fun of learning about his new team, where he is picking and scouting the players during draft day. As well as a full offseason to make moves as opposed to taking a squad over a week or so before the G24 draft and being pressed for time.
Ref - you and Guru could even run the numbers privately beforehand and just post the results (one by one every few minutes for dramatic effect!) on draft day at noon.

GRANT LOOKING TO LONG-TERM DEAL by Michael David Smith
Fresh off a season in which he went from the bottom of the Giants' depth chart to the top of the Packers' single-game postseason rushing list, running back Ryan Grant and his agent appear to be looking for a long-term deal.
"We'll see what happens," agent Alan Herman said, per Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "We'll see if the organization is aggressive and wants to do the right thing, then you certainly reward a player and try to lock him up for the future."
The only problem is that Grant doesn't have a lot of leverage. He has been out of college for three years, but he was technically considered a rookie in 2007 because he spent his first year on the Giants' practice squad and his second on the Giants' non-football injury list. He made the league minimum of $310,000 in the 2007 season, and he still has two years before he can be a free agent.
Dougherty reports that the Packers might simply tender him at the second-year minimum of $370,000 in 2008, and the third-year minimum of $460,000 in 2009.
Packers General Manager Ted Thompson wouldn't address Grant's contract situation, other than to say, "We've spent a lot of effort and time addressing some of the fellas that are a little bit more veteran in terms of doing contract extensions, but as we grow as a team and these young guys move through their initial contracts, we'll address those as we go along, sure."

You know, you'd have to check the transactions, but I believe I owned Ryan Grant temporarily last year. I like to use slots on guys who are possible surprise starters at RB (who doesn't?) But I dropped him so I could pick up some fricking IDP or TE or K to cover a bye week. Even though I knew my team wasn't good enuf to go anywhere.
Why? Was I afraid of being tut-tutted by ref or someone else, saying "I'm disappointed to see that some teams have bye week players active in their rosters."?
Frick that. Next year I'm holding the Ryan Grants, and if my sorry-ass team has to have 3 bye-week players in the lineup, so be it. I better start playing to win or I'll be drifting in mediocrity forever.

Regardless of whether you have him last year Toral, you wouldn't have kept him so its irrelevant that you cut him loose. He wasn't even in the mix to start - it was Brandon Jackson vs. Morency.
If anyone has a gripe its Ref who had him this year and then let him go... and then Slizz who was selling high - and then Grant just took the ball and ran with it. (great pun!)

Slizz got a LOT for Grant. I couldn't believe how much CT offered for him. I was ready to get him and because Slizz and I had a tentative deal in place, he was nice enough to allow me to match the better offer but I just couldn't. Now if Grant turns into the next big thing, obviously it was more than worth it. With Jackson in the wings, I didn't think that Grant was the man. He still may not be. Pretty early yet.

If it makes you feel better Toral I checked the transactions for 2006 and you never owned that year, in fact, no one did, which makes sense:
In a freak accident, Grant slipped on a wet nightclub floor during a party in early 2006, his left arm crashing though a glass table. Grant almost bled to death. According to his agent, Alan Herman, Grant made it to the hospital just in the nick of time. Herman said that first there was some doubt about whether Grant would live, then came the worry that he would never play football again because he would lose feeling in his hand.
“I was bleeding profusely,” Grant said. “I severed my artery, nerve and tendon. For a while after my injury, I could not move my hand. The bleeding was so bad that stitches were not enough. I needed surgery.”
Grant was placed on injured reserve for the duration of the 2006 season. In the span of less than three years he had gone from starting tailback for the University of Notre Dame to a one-armed assistant coach for a high school football team in Jersey.
By the end of the 2006 season the Giants had seen enough. They traded Ryan Grant to the Packers for a future 6th-round draft pick link

I was talking about 2007 of course (2007 is last year in fantasy football), not 2006. Owning him in 2006 would have had no bearing on anything as he wouldn't have been kept. I recall considering him last year but looking back on my transactions it looks like I speculated on Pierre Thomas instead.
The point is the same anyway.
