0 Subject: Your Biggest Fantasy Flops This Year

Well since most leagues are basically done for the year. Was just curious on who you thought were the biggest disappointments and fantasy flops.

Mine:

#1 Lee Evans
#2 Larry Johnson
#3 Laurence Maroney

Honorable Mention : Donovan McNabb, Travis Henry

Few injury situations, but still no real big excitement in any of these top players IMO.

while i didn't draft either Larry Johnson or Shaun Alexander, they've got to be up there as the biggest busts in fantasy football this year.

Alex Smith, the QB. I also picked DeAngelo Williams, thinking that he would have taken over as #1, and that Fred Taylor wouldn't have a big year. Should have Taken Taylor.

Charlie Frye (luckily, I picked up Derek Anderson on the WW right away)

Donald Driver (lots of catches, only 2 TDs)

Ugh, being a Rams fan I definitely should of said Bulger / S. Jackson Both injuries, but yah, disappointments on high drafts...

Yah Perm, D. Anderson helped me get to playoffs and failed me in the playoffs... Obviously the guy can't play to well when it gets cold..

Early round running backs. In my two league drafts I took a total of 5 running backs in the first 3 rounds. Of those 5 only 1 started for me in the playoffs and that was Stephen Jackson who missed more than his fair share of time during the season. I don't know how I am going to do it yet but I am changing up draft strategy next year. In fact shouldn't that be a good piece of game theory. If I know all of my opponents are picking running backs in the first 2-3 rounds then this should somehow be exploitable shouldn't it.

And then to really complain my first six picks were all busts as far as I am concerned.

League #1
Round 4 (#43) Javon Walker (13.40 points)
Round 6 (#67) Reggie Brown (60.20)

I could also complain about keeping Cedric Benson (57.85), but that was my own issue from last year.

League #2
Round 3 (#26) Carnell Williams (25.25)
Round 6 (#71) Santana Moss (46.30)
Round 9 (#98) Mark Clayton (28.25)
Round 10 (#119) Donte Stallworth (54.85)

Despite this, and drafting DeAngelo Williams (7th, #74) and Jay Cutler (8th, #95), I still managed to win the league. I think getting Romo in the 11th and Witten in the 12th went a long way towards helping combat these earlier busts.

Clearly, I suck at picking WR.

I wouldnt argue that Larry Johnson is a big disappointment. Those who drafted him early on (meaning picks 1-5), they didnt do their homework.

In the history of the NFL, only one runningback that has carried the ball 370+ times the season (playoffs included) before has followed up with another successful campaign. His name was Eric Dickerson. For the record, LJ had 416 regular season carries plus playoffs. The rest have all failed or got injured the next year: Recent examples - Shaun Alexander (2005), Jamal Lewis (he's finally putting things together now), Curtis Martin (2004). Just a tidbit for everyone in the future. I remember watching a special on Jerome Bettis (HBO, I believe) about him getting out of bed on a Tuesday after a game. The man could barely walk!

For that reason, I didnt draft LJ and took him off my board all together.

Biggest bust has to goto Frank Gore! Fortunately, I didnt draft him...lol Dont get me wrong, I tried dearly to get him in just about every one of my leagues. I even had the #1 overall pick and tried trading for Gore and a player T.B.A. Thankfully, his owner didnt want to give him up for L.T. Gore was primed for that breakout season after the strong 2006 fantasy football campaign where those who drafted him in round 5 got the 2nd biggest steal (Jones-Drew - #1 steal). I honestly expected LT type #'s but without the TDs b/c of his offense. To my knowledge, he only had one good game (correct me if I am wrong) this entire year and that was @ STL. Guess he got fat and lazy b/c he finally got paid.

An honorable mention goes to Rudi Johnson. The guy did nothing all season and had a bum hammy. He was so bad that he was dropped in some of the leagues I played in. I dont want to knock him too much b/c he was injured, but still.

Carson Palmer should get some mention b/c you know somebody drafted him in the 2nd or 3rd round b/c of the offense he was in. I mean he wasnt bad, but lets be serious here...take away the week 2 browns game, Palmer was worse than Eli Manning!

I got burned by caddy in 3 of my leagues...poor guy, his career might be done b/c a torn patellar pretty much = career ending injury. I hope he is able to continue playing though b/c he was definitely a special player.

Also, as a bears fan, what about Cedric Benson? He was drafted around the same time is ronnie brown (14th-20th pick range) and pretty much did absolutely nothing before injuring his ankle.

Holt - you pretty much were spot on with Bulger. Good thing he got paid before the season started! lol.

Not gonna knock steven jackson b/c when he was healthy he put up fantasy worthy #'s.

I dont want to ramble on and on, but i'll let you guys finish the arguments!

Re: #9 - League #2

What league is this and where do I join? :)

Round 10 (#119) Donte Stallworth (54.85). Not bad...he had a pretty solid 5 week run mid-season.

I know this is about teams that "we" managed, and I neglected to acknowledge that before I posted...so I apologize!

I won my league this year.

1. Ladainian Tomlinson
2. Steve Smith
3. Travis Henry
4. Matt Hasselback
5. Andre Johnson
6. Adrian Peterson
7. Chris Cooley
8. Santonio Holmes
9. Calvin Johnson
10. Jake Delhomme
11. Ernest Wilford
12. Kevin Jones
13. Jason Elam
14. Selvin Young
15. Panthers D
16. Seahawks D

As I said, no complaints. No real busts except Travis Henry. I got the two best RBs in football, plus Smith and AJohnson who were great early and late (and well covered by CJohnson and Holmes in between). Delhomme was great until he got hurt, Hasselback was consistent the whole way, and Cooley and Seattle D rounded out a terribly consistent team.

i made it to the finals in 3 of my leagues, winning two of them. the RIFC AAA 2 was the only re-draft i did, and i won it with the following draft:

1.06 Joseph Addai RB
2.09 Chad Johnson WR
3.06 Marion Barber RB
4.09 Lee Evans WR
5.06 Tony Romo QB
6.09 LaMont Jordan RB
7.06 Jerricho Cotchery WR
8.09 Jason Witten TE
9.06 Eli Manning QB
10.09 Isaac Bruce WR
11.06 Kevin Jones RB
12.09 James Farrior LB
13.06 Brian Dawkins DB
14.09 Denver Broncos DEF
15.06 Arnaz Battle WR
16.09 Brian Leonard RB
17.06 Mark Anderson DL
18.09 Shaun Phillips LB
19.06 Asante Samuel DB
20.09 Bradie James LB
21.06 Craig Davis WR
22.09 Tony Hunt RB
23.06 David Akers K
24.09 Kevin Walter WR

looking at that, i don't even consider it an especially strong draft, even if i do recollect getting most of the guys i targeted in the early rounds.

Chad Johnson was a disappointment, Lee Evans was a flop, but i think the trio of Barber, Romo, and Witten were crucial picks for me.

Still - Electroman - who won the regular season crown - had a spectacular first five round, that really only included one pick i wouldn't considering to have an amazing season:

1.01 LaDainian Tomlinson RB
2.14 Terrell Owens WR
3.01 Tom Brady QB
4.14 DeAngelo Williams RB
5.01 Randy Moss WR

save for one snowdy day and the fact that Tom Brady finally came back down to earth, he might have won the whole shooting match...

RE: 11

Mostly a bunch of friends. I drafted Jackson, McGahee, Cadillac, and Lynch in the first four rounds. People were all over the place. In fact, Brady got drafted with the #12 overall pick (not bad in hindsight, but still could have gotten him a lot lower).

Still, despite my draft, my WR were complete busts. Picking up Jacobs and Grant were the keys to my win as my RBs were on and off injury all year.

And Romo almost cost me a shot at the finals.

1.12 Laurence Maroney - complete waste of my 1st round pick
2.03 Edgerrin James - did ok
3.12 Javon Walker - 2 times I've drafted him he's been hurt, won't touch him again
4.03 Ladell Betts - ok bad pick by me, but looked better assuming Portis would be hurt/RBBQ
5.12 Braylon Edwards - great season
6.03 Jay Cutler - mediocre season

So basically rounds 1, 3, and 4 were total duds for me. Puts a pretty big hurt on your team over the season.

My other league, which is a keeper league starting 2 QBs...

Rudi Johnson (keeper)
Vince Young
Rex Grossman
Brandon Jackson
Santana Moss (keeper)

My team took a beating in the offseason by losing Michael Vick and Tiki Barber, so I was forced into some crappy keepers from an already weak team.

judy (AA)

Draft picks:
1. Westbrook (awesome season!)
2. Lynch (great job until he missed a few with injuries)
3. Colston (gave up on him and dumped him --oops big
mistake)
4. McNabb (oh, well, there is always next year, fortunately I had
picked up Anderson...)
5. Coles (good until the injury bug bit him hard)
Not too unhappy with those 5.

My downfall was WR:
Hester (#6), but they gotta learn to throw to him more and then
watch out)
Toomer was a bust
Bullock also disappointed

Waiver pickups I liked (mostly IDP's)
DJ Hackett (for three weeks until he got hurt again)
Roddy White
Jason Hanson (k)
Patrick Kerney
Shaun Philips
Eric Wright
Madieu Williams
Atari Bigby

Injuries contributed to my downfall:
Poslozny was doing great until he broke his arm early on.
Then, Coles, Lynch, Hackett, Williams, Wright, etc. My last
lineup was determined by playing the ones who were healthy
enough to play!
