Waivers have been turned on and our season is underway. Even though they were turned on today, apparently they still won't run until Tuesday night/Wed morning for the first time since they never run on Mondays in the season. So everyone has plenty of time to make claims. Opening night is Thursday, but you may still add/drop any player not involved in the Thursday game up until 5 mins before the first game on Sunday.

If you'd like to participate in our draft recap, we've started it in the football standings thread.

Cards found three mistakes (affecting several teams) I had made on the schedule. They were dropdown errors. Neither of us could find anymore, but those teams obvioulsy hadn't checked their schedules yet. Frick and gshade have been added to our g20/24 web site.

I still like having a team defense for whatever reason... but I definitely would favor the other three. Especially return yards in a league this deep, we have so many thin teams that take a 0 in a spot or trot out some 4th string WR, when they could at least get a couple points from a Cribbs, Sproles type. Also would help with bye week fill-ins.

I don't care on way or another about team D if we add another IDP. It is a [pain to have to make a trade just to field sum sub par D to
cover a bye week. I'd almost rather take the goose egg.

In a league this big, all skill players should have some value.
{Unless of course your name is Joey Galloway} Adding return yards
would do that.

INTS=SACKS-No. Ints are always a turnover, sacks are not.

YES on adding return yardage. This gives added value to a number of players who otherwise might not be used very much. And it adds a strategic dimension, which is always a plus.

I agree with mjd on the sacks/INT question.

INT's are 4, so still valued more (and Fumble Force 2, Fumble Recovery 2 which I think is perfect as well).

Dominik Hixon just dropped 15 points. Ouch.

Something I've always wondered... if you are a WR and you get a reverse, its not working and you are staring at a 10 yard loss.... why would you not just throw the ball away? Some rule that says you can't? that always baffles me.

We're not having any sort of a vote until before next season. No one ever wants to even discuss rules changes it seems until th emiddle of the season. Even when we push for input before the season, many do not participate.

With that being said, I think it's great if you want to weight-in now on ideas. may help us come up with some alternatives to objections.

Here are my current opinions...

Team D/ST: I think this could be a huge disadvantage to several teams. Team D/ST can mean the difference for a team winning and losing. Several teams have made trades to ensure they ahve a great team D. Take PD for instance, his D has been a part of his team from the beginning and has really helped him every year. Now he's trying to fix his team and if he loses his D, that's one more piece to fill. My guess is that this will be a tough sell. I think we'd get farther tweaking scoring as I've suggested before. For instance, I've proposed that we not count scoring not allowed by D and it hasn't even gotten enough support to take it to a vote. Perhaps we should look to add or nerf some of the D's elements as well? I don't know.

Return Yards: This has been brough up probably 4 or 5 times and has had little support as well. I attempted to bring it in along with IDPs since there are DBs who return but, again I had to withdraw it because of lack of support. As long as we don't put too much weight on PR and KR, I think it could work--esp in a deep league like this. INTR and FR yards are also options on CBS, but again had little interest when we brought those up before last season.

Add/drops after week 13: The only way I can see this being able tow ork at all is something like GO proposed. It HAS to be fair to the non-playoff teams.

Adding another IDP spot: I haven't done much research on this. But with our limited bench, I'm afraid that if we did this, we'd also have to add another bench spot and that could make the WW even thinner. No opinion on this as of yet.

Adding a point to a sack: I think this needs to be done. In addition to an INT being 4 points, often times the IDP will get a PD as well. That's 5 points. mjd's point was exactly our thinking when we proposed the 4 for INT, but DL players need those points and a sack can also stop a scoring drive. Players DO recieve a tackle for another point when they sack. At the very least, I feel a sack must go up by .5 (half sack .25).

I think there are too many bench spots already, so if we did add another IDP position I certainly would be against adding another bench spot. Not that many IDP are going to be keepers anyway, so the team could simply drop and add another IDP to cover the bye weeks.

Isn't that what we're doing? ;)

Anyhow, let's not forget the playoffs...

AFC
#1 Broncos None left
#4 Raiders -13.7 Delhomme and LB Ruud left

This score changed drasticlaly today. It was like a 4 point difference and now it is almost 14. Not sure what's up. Before, I felt it was a sure bet that the Radiers would win, but if the new score is accurate, it will be much harder. Still I think the Raiders can do it. 55% chance of Raiders winning. (90% if the old score is put back).

#2 Colts K Kasay left
#3 Texans -15.26 DB R. Barber left

For the Texans to win Barber needs to come up BIG. A pick 6 (at least 10 points) along with a bad night from Kasay could do it--albeit unlikely. Chance for Texans: 10%

NFC

#1 Bears Done
#4 Giants -56.5 RB Williams, DL Peppers, Car DST left

It might look like a lot fo point sto make up--and it is--but i t can be done if Car dominates tonight on both sides of the ball. All three need to be HUGE though. Giants chance of winning: 15%

#2 Cowboys -73.36 LBs Beason and Davis left
#3 Eagles

Stick a fork in it. This is over. Odds of Cowboys avoiding the upset? ZILCH

Anyone watching the raiders/broncos score?

Doug is up .22 right now and if Delhomme has to take some knees, he could lose it.

Wow, well, we'll see if any of the scores change overnight, but what an exciting game. I was IM-ing with Ref... on that second-to-last Carolina drive Ruud made a tackle, Delhomme threw a short pass, I still needed a few... and on last play Ruud makes the assist (then misses a tackle on following drive!)

After that I was trying to do math in my head of how much time could be left on clock for Delhomme to only kneel once or twice, not 3 times... just made it under the wire by like 5-10 seconds or so.

Talk about a nail biter!

The scores held up for Doug. He wins by .02!!! Wow!!! I told him, I don't know who to root for as I hae to play them next week. Pick my poison I guess.

I've set the matchups. In the Super Bowl there are four teams left and four teams in the consolation round. All games count toward your winnings.

In the Wanna-Be and Toilet, they are matched up based on an 8 team seeded field and they don't re-seed. (1-8, 4-5 and 2-7, 3-6). Only winners continue to play in these two Bowls.

Super Bowl
Oakland Raiders at Indianapolis Colts AFC
Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears NFC

Consolation
Houston Texans at Denver Broncos AFC
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys NFC

Wanna-Be Bowl
New York Jets at Green Bay Packers
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals

Toilet Bowl
New Orleans Saints at Baltimore Ravens
San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs

This will be the first year ever that our all-time games played leader, StL Rams, will not be playing all three weeks of the playoffs.

In Pick-ems, the Bears pretty much clinched it.
Low Weeks - Current Total:
Bears: 10 - 187
Seahawks: 10 - 175
Colts: 6 - 176
Bills: 9 - 169
Eagles: 0 - 171

Congrats DS!

It is nice to know he would've beat anyone this week. I think he's unstoppable when his team is on. Bring it home buddy!

And if you thought that was an upset, you didn't really bother to look at the matchup. I knew I was going to have to get lucky to have any chance. Luck finally ran out on me, but I feel fortunate to have made it to the playoffs.

Look for some changes in the offseason. :-)

Thanks Peter - Sorry I missed your call. It's been really busy here. I'm just glad to be in the playoffs once and appreciate your kind words.

As far as adding another IDP, I like the idea and I think we could do that w/o increasing the bench size as long as it's a flex DL/LB/DB who could serve also as a backup during bye weeks. We already have to cover for those guys now.

Grats Doug and DS!

I hate playing the 'what if' game. Doug losing in week 13 and then winning by .02 means I won't be going into the playoffs. My season ended just as it started. The 2nd highest point total for the week, only to lose to Doug, the hihest point getter. Dems da' Breaks!

Super Bowl:
Oakland Raiders at Philadelphia Eagles

Indianapolis Colts at Chicago Bears 3rd
New York Giants at Denver Broncos 5th
Houston Texans at Dallas Cowboys 7th

San Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers Wanna-Be

So the Wanna-be bowl features the showdowns of the top two ranked "coaches". At least I can hang my hat on the fact that I have been #1 most of the season! ha! Yet another disheartening fact is that my team is the #2 power team in the league just behind Ref's colts. This BCS stuff sucks, I demand a playoff...ooops nevermind.

In reviewing my season, which has by far been the best for me, I can't help but be disappointed with the way the numbers fell: 2nd highest scoring team in the league for the regular season, scored over 100 pts in all but four weeks, Lost 6 games in which my team scored 100 or more just to name a few. Looking back I had forgotten about losing to Doug in week 3 in which I put up 139.98. Just damn. The killers were my two losses by a point or less to two of my division foes who both made the playoffs (Bears, Giants). Week 11 probably broke my back when I scored 108 but loss to Bears and Colts.

If I complete my run and beat the 49ers this weekend, I will lobby for a share of 1st place! Don't we have a coaches poll, or use Saggarin's rankings or something??? Okay, now I want to hear someone else bitch about their season! ;)

Well was glad to finally see my team make a run for the playoffs.. It has been a loooong dry spell. Of course making the playoffs would of been nice, but a wasteful trip as several key players would of been hurt.

I still need a good QB.. Anyone mind giving up the #1 pick so I can get Stafford next year? :)

Hey guys, sorry for not checking in sooner. I received the trophy and the prize money around Feb 5-6 (I think). 2009 has been quite hectic.

My Dad passed on Jan 18 and after seeing to his affairs, we brought my Mom home with us in late Jan and will keep her through the end of this month. She want to get back to a regular routine pretty soon and I hope she can.

The trophy was a great distraction to an otherwise somber atmosphere around here and was really appreciated at the time. Thanks guys.

I am highly interested in obtaining Cutler through a 3-team trade. I would receive Cutler, GO would receive QB TBD, and the person trading QB TBD would receive Edwards.
