0 Subject: Waiver Wire Dilemna

I don't usually do this, but...

In one of my (two) leagues where I lost both Brady & Burleson for the year...aside from giving up on the season...and officially kissing goodbye to my $110 entry fee...I have slight options

Here's what's left of my now-crap team:

QB - NONE!
RB - LJ, MJ Drew, Forte, Kenny Watson, Bradshaw
WR - Roddy White, Roy Williams, Reggie Williams, Javon Walker (soft spot!), Mark Clayton

That's really all that matters. Well, I've also got a banged up Dallas Clark too!

We start QB,WR,WR,WR,RB,RB,TE,K,DEF
Normal scoring, but 1 bonus point per reception and 5 bonus ppoints for 300yd (QB)/100yd (RB,WR,TE) efforts

I've got two trade offers:
Favre for any one of LJ, Jones-Drew or Forte...thinking no thanks
Rivers for Roddy White

I've got #1 waiver priority, so I get first dibs at Cassel.

OR, I can get Rivers, skip Cassel and take Eddie Royal, who was pretty damn impressive last night! Although, Marshall comes back next week...

What do you guys think? I've gotta decide by tonight when the WW runs (every Tue night at midnight). I'm leaning towards taking Cassel, but Royal & Rivers is intriguing (any chance I spelled that right?)

Me, if I had the option, I'd do Favre for Forte in a heartbeat. Sell high and all that.

So I am guessing you can only make one FA move per week also. I don't know how high on LJ you are but he didn't look good this week. Albeit against a stiff Patriots defense, I don't trust LJ very much. He may be 1000 yards and 5 TDs, but I think you've got 3 other RBs who could be just as good if not better than LJ this year. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss that deal for Favre. I don't think he's that bad a choice. Certainly he's a better option than Philip Rivers.

If you can't do more than one waiver pickup I'd say Cassel should be option 1. I wouldn't consider the Rivers option, since I don't think it's worth giving up a guy who could be an absolute star this year in Roddy. (Disclaimer: I have Roddy White in every fantasy league this year). I'd say option 2 would be Favre and Royal.

You can make more than 1 move, but it's kind of like a draft. I get first pick, then it goes to the guy with 2nd priority...and so on. If no one else makes moves, it could come back to me, but I know this league is pretty active.

I guess I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss trading for Favre, but I also don't want to be so quick to give up LJ or Forte for a 40-something QB, when I can have mini-Brady for free basically.

So you guys both think Favre > Rivers?

I agree on dumping LJ now...I think he is on the fast track to Shaun Alexanderville.

Especially if its a keeper.

yea. if you can move LJ for a QB and a RB, go for it. you've got decent runners there in Forte and MJD...

what RBs does the Favre owner have?

I wouldn't try to push it with the Favre owner to get a RB out of him. If he has a halfway decent WR he's willing to part with along with Favre I'd do that.

If you can get a WR along with Favre for LJ, then I'd use your waiver priority on Cassell again, unless it's a keeper, then I'd look at Royal.

Not a keeper

Favre team has: Thomas Jones, McHe'sGay, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson

The trade would just be Favre for one of my RB's. So it wouldn't be moving LJ for a Rivers & a RB.

If I do trade for a QB...who do I take with my WW pick...Cassel or Royal?

I think you pick up Cassel regardless. He can always be used as trade bait.

Kinda weird how many people misspell dilemma. No big deal, just odd. It seems to be pretty common.

I'd pick up Cassel and possibly explore deals for a better QB than Rivers/Favre. If you're willing to give up LJ then you should be able to get a more valuable QB, right? If you could swing a deal like that quickly then you could still pick up Royal on waivers.

It's a dilemma dilemna.

Personally, I'd take Rivers for White. I like White, but let's be honest. It's far more likely for Rivers to have a good year with the weapons he has compared to White to have a good year with a rookie QB.

Cassel is the starting QB in NWE, but maybe there's a reason he hasn't started a game since high school that doesn't just involve being behind ridiculously good talent. I think a lot of people are thinking Cassel = Brady (or even Cassel = brady) and that's a lot to ask for a step-in guy.

Also, I don't see getting rid of a starting RB unless you're getting a top caliber QB. I don't see Favre as that level anymore, particularly after looking just okay against MIA. I think you have to get into Cutler//Romo territory if you're giving up one of your RBs.

Personally, I pull the trigger on Rivers/White and also pick up Cassel just in case. Then I'd work on a separate trade for another WR or find a hot hand in FA.

You need to fill your obvious need right away. Take Cassel (with an awesome offensive line and great receivers he's got to finish in the top 15).

Rivers for Roddy White. White isnt a keeper and he has Matt Ryan, a rookie, throwing the ball to him.

He's had one good year his entire career and doesnt have a strong enough track record IMHO. He played in an inflated passing system, where Chris Redman was considered a viable option. CHRIS FREAKIN REDMAN.

I'd do rivers for white in a heartbeat. Scour the waiver wire for a WR, for example, like starting Tampa Bay flanker, Antonio Bryant who is more than capable of putting up big #'s, especially if this is a PPR.

Than you're looknig at a guy who is going to put up as good as #'s as burleson & a QB who isnt as big as a dropoff.

Use your waiver on Cassel and if you strike gold, you got a guy who you can trade later on while hedging your bets with Rivers. If not, its only a waiver pick.

I think I'm still leaning towards taking Cassel and seeing what happens. I've got WW requests in for: Eddie Royal, Randle-El, Ike Hilliard and I'll add a few more...like Bryant. Can anyone name a healthy WR for Seattle?

I do have high hopes for Roddy White, so I'd rather not move him. The guy who wants him is a HUGE Falcons fan, so I can probably get more after a big game.

I guess ideally someone else in a few weeks may get desperate for a RB and I can trade LJ for their top QB...

I don't like Rivers. I had him the first half of the season last year and traded him away at the first opportunity. check his game log from last year. 10 games under 200 yards. 6 games under 160 yds. 15 TD's, 21 INT. you would think that being a Chargers QB would mean good numbers, but it doesn't.

holt, that would be 21 TDs and 15 INT. Big difference. His yardage was average, but he was pretty much on par with Jay Cutler last year.

Oh, and of those 10 games under 200 yards, 4 of them were by a combined 45 yards. Not exactly as bad as it sounds.

Also, let's be realistic here. It's not like J has the 30th pick in the draft and is trying to figure out who he should take. He's trying to salvage a $110 entry fee.

With that in mind, I'd hedge my bets with one known and one unknown quantity. At worst, Rivers should keep you in contention for the week. At best, he might be able to push you over the top.

And if Cassel breaks out... well, then it's all good.

Thanks for everyone's input, I appreciate it. I wound up getting Cassel, Randle El & Ike Hilliard off waivers. So now I've got some depth if I want to do the Rivers-Roddy White swap. But, I'll give Cassel a couple of weeks before I do anything dramatic!

With Favre, he's got vs NE, @SD, Bye. So I don't want to trade for him until after the bye anyways.

Interesting turn of events. The guy who offered me Rivers for Roddy also has Colston (out 4-6 weeks). His other QB is McNabb...maybe we can help each other already!
