0 Subject: NYG kicker situation

Does anyone know when Tynes is coming back?

I finally unloaded my crappy kickers last week and picked up Carney as a short term solution. It paid immediate dividends last week with a nice performance vs. Seattle.

What's the chances of Carney keeping the job another week? Any Giants homers in here?

I'd like to immediately jump on Tynes (who's available in my leagues) as soon as the work comes through that he is the kicker again considering how great the NYG offense is looking this year.

I hope to not miss the bus on this one and let someone else grab him before I get the opportunity, so does anyone have an idea who's gonna be the kicker this week?

From what I understand, Tynes is ready to go. The G-men won't keep both. So I suspect whichever one is let loose, they will soon find their way to New Orleans to replace Gramatica.

What a weird situation. On the one hand, you never want to make a change when your kicker is hot, but on the other hand Tynes is younger, stronger, and an integral part of the Super Bowl winning roster. It seems unlikely to me that Coughlin and Co. would keep Tynes on the roster all of this time only to cut him once he's healthy because Carney is acing his kicks. Although loyalty to players based on what they have done is one of those recurring mistakes football teams (and fantasy managers) make, Tynes is probably the better overall kicker if he's 100%.

NY Daily News: Coughlin concerned about Carney's kickoffs (see Kick Standoff at bottom of page)

My guess is that Tynes comes back in a few weeks, and Carney is waived within a week or two of that. Thanks for the memories, fella. Free Agency be kind to ya. The Giants will likely come to regret the move because Tynes will miss a kick here or there (he's coming back from a bum knee). But they'll hope to make up for it on the strength of his kickoffs.

The only question that remains is when. If you have an extra roster spot for a second kicker, well quit wasting it and pick up a backup RB, QB, or WR. Seriously, don't hang on this decision--there are plenty of kickers out there that will get the job done for you. No such thing as a sexy kicker.

Everything points to Tynes being the starter and Carney getting let go.

Which means it'll all be the exact opposite. ;)

Thanks for some clarity guys.

Anyone think it's happening for this week?

It will be from the Carney slot when it's time to make the move, but I don't want to be beaten to the punch on this.

The Giants are so explosive this year that either one of them would be absolute gold when the other guy gets cut. It should be Tynes, I don't think he'd lose the job due to injury.

Anyone with a subpar kicker should really look at Tynes. Chances are he was dropped long ago. He's probably available in many leagues.

Carney is going to get the pink slip.

I can't believe this still hasn't been resolved.

Adam Schfter reports Carney will kick tonight. Again.

PFT talks about it but has no answer.

Thanks for the updates.

In a critical matchup, I ended up rostering both kickers. This league has transaction fees too, so all I did was throw more money into the pot.

At least I have my bases covered for now.

Although Romo's injury is a huge speed bump for this current team right now. The trade offers have been coming throughout the day....

Ugh! I was hoping Carney would sit and guarantee a victory for my team (my opponent is starting him). Good thing I have Eli and a 10 point lead, but Tynes starting would have been great.

KKB: I don't know what your scoring system is, but that must have been a closer than you would like to see match up. It looks like you won though with Carney getting 2 points. You'd have to really penalize INTs for Eli to get -8.

Yeah, I still ended up a fair amount ahead. INTs are only -2, so the INTs and TD were a wash. The yardage was enough to counteract Carney, so I was fine.

I think the longer this goes on, the less I like it. I wouldn't trust Tynes first game back, maybe at all. I keep hearing that he's had small setbacks. He's coming off of knee problems. They should just ride the hot leg and go with Carney. If they want Tynes to earn his money they can activate him and use him for kickoffs. If Tynes was kicking as well as Carney in practice, you'd better believe Tynes would have been in there by now.

Carney is this weeks kicker as Tynes is inactive
