Does anyone see any surprising cuts so far?

I am surprised not to see Alex Smith (qb) name not out there yet? Any niners fan know what is going to happen. I had read that he was willing to restructure his contract to try and stay and prove that he is not a bust. All signs are pointing that he is a major bust, but he is still just 24.

The Bucs apparently are looking to do something big- cutting Derek Brooks, Cato June, Joey Galloway, Warrick Dunn and Ike Hilliad.

Laverneous Coles apparently will be released by the Jets. Sad day for former Noles (Coles, Dunn, Brooks all getting the axe)

art - yes, it looks like the 49ers will keep Smith, pending a reasonable renegotiation of his contract and have him "compete" for the starting job with Shawn Hill.

It seems as if the 9ers want to give him a fresh start with Singletary and the opportunity to get some amount of return on their wasted (so far) investment.

While I hate TO and never wanted him as a cowboy in the 1st place, I just dont see why they would cut him after signing him to a 4 year deal.

If I figured it out right they are paying more against the cap to cut him then they would be if they were just paying him. -1

They do not have a 2nd WR that I think they need, and now most of the talent at WR has been signed -1

TO, even though he is a pain in the ass, is still probably a top 3 WR in football in my opinion, that is hard to replace, if not impossible. -1

The Bucs have cap space to burn, but what I hear is they are short on actual money.

Oakland? Washington? I heard the other day that to have him on the team and to not have him, the difference was about 700,000. If he is a cancer, how much is team chemistry worth? The fact that they gave up so much in order to get Roy Williams is also another factor.

Julian Peterson was going to be cut by the Seahawks, but ends up being traded to Detroit for Corey Redding and a 5th rounder.

Also Donte Stallworth killed a Pedestrian in Miami.

With all the stupid Cutler drama going around, there is a rumor of Ernie Simms and pick #20 to Denver with Cutler and 2nd rounder going to Detroit.

The Bears won't draft anyone with near the impact of Cutler at 18. They might as well trade that pick to Denver. Lord knows the Bears could use a quarterback. I just wonder if the franchise isn't still seething over the Rick Mirer debacle when they dealt a first rounder for him. It's probably the money. Always is with the Bears.

The cutler thing is just getting uglier by the day. I think it is going to be hard for Denver to get value for him. Chicago makes a ton of sense if they can pony up a good offer for Denver or maybe they will just wait for awhile to see how much worse it gets.

The only good thing for Denver is it seems to be a bidding war to get him. Since it looks like all ties to the organization are dead it should be the other way around.

The Bears will never pay much for a QB. Look at their history. They think they can win without a top QB. I will be shocked if they go after Cutler. He costs too much!

I would just keep waiting because it seems to be getting worse by the day.
I still think Chicago makes sense, but I agree they won't pony up enough to get him. Word in Denver is they are trying to trade him to a NFC team, but of course they will take the best offer they can get. Jets and Bucs would be my guess, but I think it would be great to banish the baby to Lions.

I highly doubt it. I think it's a great move for the Bears and wouldn't be surprised to see them battle for the division championship.

Over the years here Zen every time a Chicago team is referenced you have a comment.

It isn't our fault you are a bitter man living in a sports backwater Barter Town like s#ithole in Seattle.

Let's see...

Mariners? 101 losses last year. They have more losses than people on the Biggest Loser have lost pounds.

Seahawks? 4-12. Yeah a bunch of winners you got there. A real success story. The last time the Seahawks were relevant it was DA BEARS that eliminated their crappucino swilling a@@es from the playoffs.

How's the basketball team you got there? Oh yeah, they'd rather be in Oklahoma City. Even when you had a team it was DA BULLS that decimated them in the NBA Finals and that was almost a lifetime ago.

Chicago:

Cubs - Made the playoffs last year and are projected to do so again this year.

White Sox - Won the World Series 3 or 4 years ago. When was the last time the Mariners won the World Series? I'll hang up and listen for my answer.

Bears - Just traded for a franchise quarterback and appeared in the Super Bowl 3 years ago at the expense of the Seahawks.

Bulls - 6 NBA titles. How many does the Seattle team have? Oh wait, you don't have one.

Blackhawks - Clinching a playoff spot and have two of the brightest stars in the league. Do you have a hockey team?

So really, stop projecting your sports inferiority onto Chicago. You act like you're from a city that matters to professional sports. It clearly does not.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

You guys can have him. The last thing I wanted this year was to have to read that xxxxxxx's obnoxious comments every week in the paper. We already have one ARod in this town.

Enjoy.

wow, I didn't think Chicago would pony up, but they did. Denver got more in return than I thought they would. Denver was not that good this year, they should have had a worse record than they did and I expect them to be even worse this year. They signed a bunch of 2nd or 3rd tier FA. Dawkins will have the most impact, but they have plenty of holes on their defense. The chicago pick for next year will be part of a trade when they want to move up in the draft next year or McKid will trade up this year for Sanchez another SC qb just like his boy Cassell.

Ahh...with guys like Curtis Enis, Rashaad Salaam, Mark Columbo, Rex Grossman, David Terrel, Cade McNown, Brad Muster, Wendell Davis, and the list goes on and on, its not like Chicago knows how to use those 1st round picks anyways!!!

I think Chicago got a good deal here, Cutler is a bit of a baby and hopefully this trade will open up his eyes a little. He is still young and one of the top young guns in the league.

Advantage Chicago.

Boxman, if you are going to go on a rant like that, make sure you get your facts straight! Seattle won an NBA title in the late 70's!

Zen...you're coming hard at the Bears up there.

While I won't go on a Boxman rant...the Bears' problems aren't the WR's.

*Justin Gage - pro bowler in Tennessee*Bernard Berrian - pro bowler alternate & 1,000 yard WR in Minnesota...WITH TARVARIS JACKSON THROWING THE BALL!*Bobby Wade - Successful stints in Tennessee and Minnesota*Mark Bradley - 380 yards, 2 TDs in under 1/2 a season in Kansas City...WITH TYLER THIGPEN as his QB.*Muhsin Muhammad - Actually productive with Carolina after his short stint in Chicago.

Our problem is either A) the QB or B) Ron Turner. I am going to lean to the former as Turner has called decent games even for Grossman & Orton.

If they can get some decent play out of their Safeties...I think the Bears should be able to compete for a NFC North crown. They certainly have a solid offensive line...1 play-making TE (Olsen), and another who could start on at least 33% of the teams in the NFL (Clark)...a burner in Hester...and arguably the best all around 2nd year back in the NFL in Forte.

We need Tommie Harris to get back to his old self and for Craig Steltz to step up.

Angelo paid a steep price for Cutler, but I still like the deal.

2 First Round Picks + 1 Third Round Pick + Kyle Orton for Cutler and a Fifth Rounder

Angelo hasn't drafted a good player in the first round since Tommie Harris IMO so in all actuality that might be helping the Bears. Angelo does a lot better on the second day so an extra fifth is good for us. Signing Pace and the other OLs this offseason negated the urgent need to draft one with the 18 pick this year. I wasn't too comfortable starting two rookie tackles this year. Let's face it Chris Williams is essentially a rookie this year.

They should grab Holt to get Cutler a credible target. With Cutler, Forte, Holt, Hester, and Olsen the offense looks a lot better than it did last year.

I would pay those picks in a heartbeat for a proven, young, cannon-armed franchise QB.

Congrats to the Bears, I wish the Jets stepped up like Chicago did.

I'll be the first to say that I think Kellen Clemens will be just fine. And if I'm right then the Jets are far better off grabbing a WR in the 1st round and maybe a FB in the 3rd this year and keeping next year's 1st rounder.

Otherwise they're going into camp with questions in the secondary, very little depth on the offensive line, Jericho Cotchery and David Clowney as the starting WRs and 38 year old Tony Richardson as the only FB on the roster, with only 1 of the first 80 picks in the draft to address these issues.

Great One - you were on board with the Farve trade, right?
