0 Subject: Draft thoughts - MFL vs Kafenatid.net

I meant to ask this in the recap thread, but maybe it's better to raise this in a more general thread anyway.

For those involed in any of the RIFC leagues - how did you like drafting at MFL, rather than kafenatid.net?

I know that kafenatid plans to add some enhancements by next year that will rival some of the nicer features of the MFL system.

But from my perspective, it was nice to use a system for this draft that automatically updated the player database with draft picks, so that you can easily see who's available. Last year, I had to do that manually.

As to speed - we obviously drafted faster. Based on that pace, we could start the draft a bit later (i.e., after preseason week #2). But I know that some people don't necessarily find the faster speed to be a good thing.

What were your reactions? I know that there was a slow learning curve for some - but once you figured it out, what'd you think?

MFL isn't as intuitive, thats for sure. I like the fact that Kafenatid would email you whenever you were on the clock whereas MFL did not. Maybe there was a setting I just never cared to look for that would've changed that.

But once I got the hang of it, it became relatively easy to use. Having everything in one place definitely makes it easier on the commish not having to enter draft results. Also, having the bye week listed next to the players name made was helpful too...

Off topic - I really like the "checkmark box" to set your lineup. So much easier than drag/drop and CBS's active/reserve feature.

I'm surprised CBS doesn't still have a green Pong screen.

Obviously I prefer drafting on MFL over Kafenatid. It's just way better, for now at least, and easier all around. Unless Kafenatid implements some really useful features that MFL doesn't have next season, I'd see no reason to swap, since there's no reason to use an external service to do essentially the same thing with the same features.

Regarding the speed...this year was faster than last, but still slowed down excessively at points. I really think these drafts should be done in 8 days. That's an average of 3 rounds per day, which isn't that hard to keep up with. Early rounds are the most important and hardest to set long queues, so they'll tend to go a bit slower. But once you hit the midway point, roughly, it's pretty easy to set queues for 1 or 2 rounds ahead. Other people do it, I'm not sure why some just refuse or can't manage to as well. The quicker the draft is done, the quicker everyone can get back to their normal daily routines.

I could go through a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each -- I still prefer Kafenatid but adapted to MFL as we went along -- but the key point to me is that in our league the commisioner greatly appreciated not having to be around to make queue picks for people. The two systems are close enough that commissioner preference should decide on a league-by-league basis.

Actually I think both are acceptible, The biggest issue I have with MFL after overcoming its not being intuitive is that it doesn't remove players picked from your draft preference list.
For me that meant I had to keep track of who was already taken on a seperate site (in my case Rotowire) which slowed my queuing and selection process significantly.
All in all I mildly prefer Kafenatid
