Draft Discussion

2010 Schedule

Welcome to our 9th season of Gurupie 24 Football!

Waivers are turned on and will run at change of day Tues/Wed (really early Wed morning ET). For the two transactions that were made between the draft and waivers being turned on, those have been reversed. You will need to make a waiver claim for them or see if the pass through waivers so you can get a Free Agent claim for them.

There are still some teams who need to make their lineup legal. The first game is Thursday evening and the last chance to pick up/trade players for this week is 5 mins before the first game on Sunday. If you have a trade--you need to make it in enough time so that Cards or I can approve it. This league does have the option of voting to overturn the commissioner's ruling. There is the possibility of not getting the trade done in the same week--so the more time the better. Keep that in mind for your bye week wheelings and dealings!

Please check and make sure your schedule in CBS is the same as the one posted in the link above.

If you'd like to talk about the draft or anything about how you like your picks or rationales, you may do that in this thread. Many don't go back to the draft discussion thread much after the draft. I did complete the cumulative clock and post it in the draft discussion thread for future reference. No one time out of their c clock. I think next year we start the draft a day earlier and go with an automated system of some type.

Time for the season! Best of Luck!

It's all about the choices :) and that is also what can drive you nuts later ;)

Start the right guys and woohoo! but keep the wrong one on the bench and bombs away. Sometimes I think I'd like it better with no bench, then at least the decision is already made lol.

Darn you Peter! killed by AP & Crab. I contemplated playing Lloyd instead of AP, but I figured - what'd stop AP? I should've known it would be Tavaris Jackson's knee knock from last week and not the Bears to stop him. Ugh... ;)

Good luck to GO % Peter N. in the Superbowl!

I probably should have blown up my team this year, but I was a bad break from the playoffs and I got a few of them. The problem is that so many people are more worried about things 3 and 4 years down the line when they have a chance to win now. So even though I would have considered blowing up my team, you just never know how things might turn out if you can make the playoffs.

Come on lottery ball!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE:361 - Yes, that trade was huge. :-)

RE:363 - I am a good example of that. I had thoughts about blowing up my team this past offseason(ds could attest to that). In the end, I decided to stick with what I have and now I'm in the superbowl! Anything can happen, especially in fantasy football.

Let's see, this week I dropped Dockett for Ratliff. What happens? Well, Dockett has the game of his life(5 tackles and 2 sacks) while Ratliff fails to even register a tackle. I would've been better off without this new rule allowing playoff teams to make roster moves, lol. Hopefully, I don't lose by 11 points or less.

Barring a postponement of the game due to weather (wtf is that, I thought football was an outdoor sport lol) the Championship game will be decided tonight.

It all comes down to the Falcons DST + 1.43pts for the Cowboys to Hartley for the Jets.

In the first meeting this year the Falcons DST scored 7 pts in NO while Hartley put up just 3 pts. In the last 3 games the Falcons DST have averaged just over 15 pts a game and Hartley has averaged 9 pts a game.

In games where both players played in a given week, The Falcons DST outscored Hartley 6 weeks, and Hartley outscored the Falcons D 5 weeks.

NO has faced very few teams with winning records and Hartley averaged 6 pts a game in those 4. In 7 games vs teams with winning records the Falcons DST has averaged 6.5 pts per game over the 7 games.

Looks like it will go right down to the wire. Good luck to both!

Cards, they didn't PPD the Eagles game cause they don't want to play in the snow, its because its a State of Emergency the last 24 hours due to the blizzard and you aren't supposed to be on the roads...

Congrats Pete!

In the lesser-important contest (but important to me since it was the only thing to really salvage my fantasy season across 5 leagues this year) if I'm not mistaken, it looks like Oakland takes it with a 187 (dropping week 13's score of 0), just 1 point ahead of the Seahawks who wind up at 186 (dropping week 12's score of 10). Was definitely concerned about Adrian Peterson closing the G24 Bengals' 10 point lead tonight, but fortunately Webb matched Peterson's output to secure the G24 Bengals' win (else the Pick 'Em 1st/2nd place result would have been reversed).

slizz... I've never quite got Nature Boy's whole woooo thing... even as a kid watching that stuff, I was like, "is this supposed to come off as macho or intimidating or something?" Because it seems quite the opposite... or just kinda crazy. Not George the Animal Steele intimdating crazy, just... in a way that always made me sort of dismissive to him as the kinda weird "wooo"-ing guy who apparently thought that was like tough or cool or something. Which was particularly ironic for a pro-wrestler, since I thought macho/intimidating was usually the whole shtick (instantiated through various characters, but mostly all some variant of that theme)... anyway I've genuinely always wondered as to his character's appeal, and hoping maybe you can help explain it? Not trying to tear him down, and I know different strokes but different folks, but usually I can understand why... like, I can get why chicks like Twilight or Nicholas Sparks stories even though I can't stand them, but in this case I really just don't get it.

Thanks for the props. It was definitely a cinderalla story. The #8 seed takes the title. I'm still finding it hard to believe I won. I also lost Portis to injury and Moss to lack of interest so I definitely feel fortunate.

Free agent pickup of the year is Mike Goodson. He was pivotal to several victories and will draw some serious consideration to my keeper list going into next year. I know its a crowded backfield in Carolina, but hard to ignore what Goodson has done when presented with the opportunity.

Trade of the year is the Roddy White for Run DMC. That's pretty much a no brainer. Honorable mention to the trade where I aquired Shayne Graham. He was solid down the stretch and an upgrade from Jeff Reed.

Player of the year honors go to Tom Brady. He put me in the playoffs and was a stud throughout the entire year. I'm not a fan of the Pats, but Brady is a horse.

All in all, it was a wild and fun year. I look forward to the offseason and doing my best to repeat. There will be plenty of opportunities for trade. However, I don't see myself blowing the team up. :-)

Hi gang,
In years past I was a member of the Gurupie 24 fantasy football league before I had to bow out due to multiple life events over a short time period. I'd would love to be put back on the bench if a team comes available in the future.

Fellas...I will be in the NJ State Police Academy from August 15 - January 27, 2012 (barring injury) and won't be able to draft during the week.

I know the level of commitment it takes for this league so I wanted to get your thoughts on potentially helping me out during the draft if that is even allowed.

That said, I really want to keep my team but if it doesnt mesh well with the by-laws I will give it up.

I have a potential conflict as well (somehow my vacations this year have been at the end of March and August, not good timing.)

I will be on vacation from Aug 30 to Sep 11. I will have internet access in the evenings and possibly during the day (if I am not driving). But it wont be as bad as the baseball draft where I had no access.

398: League was renewed today.

I need to make some time to figure out with Cards who is coming back and what new managers we need.

Looks like so far we need to replace PD and we need to get some help for Nerf and Slizz. Not sure Slizz will be able to do anything this season if he is weekend only. That would severely hamstring him. Slizz did tell me long ago that this was likely coming. Looks like Nerf will be just fine.

Need to get on this because the draft is probably in a couple weeks and we have keeper deadline before that and obviously all he roster evals and trades, etc. I also can't even remember if there were ideas on rule changes either.

CT has shown interest. If anyone else has interest, let me know asap as time is of the essence and I have to figure things out with the time I can carve our right now.

If I don't have enough going on in rl, my hard drive failed w/o warning. As much as a headache as that has been, found out my external hard drive I'd thought I'd been backing things up weekly for the past 6 years, hasn't had a successful backup in 18 months!!! Lots of data loss.

That Franchise Record Chart was a monster. It is posted in the Franchise Standings thread but putting that back together will be an absolute nightmare.
