0 Subject: draft dilemma

I have draft tomorrow night. I have the 3rd overall pick and I am seriously considering Andre Johnson. It is an 8 team league, with standard scoring, but no TE required. You must play 3 WR/TE and only typically carry 4 WR/TE. The league is set up that you can only draft 2qb, 3rb, 4wr/te, 2 def, 2 K. Then you get a Wild position, which can be used on any position. In year’s past qb’s and Wr’s have gone early. My guess with my 2nd rd pick that 5 WR’s could be gone. Or do I take MJD and hope I can get wayne, colston or Jennings?

With only 8 teams that means only 7 picks between your turn. I'd say get Johnson and know that you'll still have plenty to choose from when your second round pick comes around.

I have the 3rd pick, then 14, 19.

If it's 6 pts for all TDs, I'd seriously look at Rodgers.

Ah, sorry--snaking, I guess?

Certainly when I've got a mid to late round pick I'm sometimes shooting for the "best available player." And Johnson hasn't proven to be much of a TD-maker. But if Johnson is available in your third round and you give points for yardage, I'd scoop him up quickly. He's gotten over 1500 yards the last two seasons and I don't see that changing. Heck, last year he had 200 more yards than the next highest player.

Beezer raises an interesting point, however: If your league is TD heavy at WR I'd lean more toward Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson, or even Randy Moss with Brady back.

passing td's are worth 6 pts, but INT's are -2. 1 pt for every 25 yds.

Beezer-thanks for the thought. I hate taking a qb early even though I did in RIFC AAA #1 draft.

PD- you are saying pass on Johnson. He will not make it back to me in the 2nd or 3rd rd. In this league he will be a top 10 pick for sure.

I could very well get Manning in the 2nd rd. I am typically in the top 3 every year, when I have gone RB, RB. I always get miffed when I can't draft another RB because my 3 slots are full and I see some very good RB still out there. I guess I will sleep on it. The two teams in front of me could pass on AP or CJ and do something a little crazy, like draft Brees or Rodgers. I can only hope.

I am a little unsure of the settings cut i think I agree with Beezer with the QB thought. Is it start 1 QB, 2RB, 3WR and then the wild or is the wild a bench position? If you start the wild then it really is a 2Qb league and i would take the QB. If you start one QB regardless I think you take MJD and consider going WR-WR in 2-3 to keep flexibility.

At 13 you know these players will be gone: AP,CJ,MJD,Rice,Gore,Turner,Brees, Rodgers,Johnson,Moss. That is 10 with players like jackson, manning wayne megatron, austin, fitz, white, deangelo making up the next few off the board. I like going into your 2-3 picks looking for WRs more than RBs.

I would use two of your first three picks on QB's.

dpr- only start 1 qb, the wc is just for drafting. Good advice. I might not go WR, WR because I think more WR's will get drafted early, but only time will tell.
thank you.

AJ going at 3 in non PPR is insane. Even in PPR it's still insane.

It seems you are tempted to make yourself pass on value in the first so that you might not have to pass on value later. Not sure that that really makes sense.

I see your point DPR, it really comes down to would you rather have MJD and Wayne or Andre Johnson and Steve Jackson. I just hope I can get Wayne.

You just hope you can get jackson too though. In the RIBC drafts he was the 8th highest drafted player. If you league is on yahoo you do stand a decent chance of grabbing him as he prerank is low and he averages going 14th (wayne 15th). However the alternatives to jackson are greene, williams, mendenhall, mathews who I rank a tier below jackson whereas guys like austin cj and fitz I may prefer to wayne just because their upside wins out in a league with so much available on waivers.

I looked at some stats using these settings and Rodgers graded out 3rd, and barely below AP. I'd probably still go RB at 3 as you can probably get a good enough QB later while you load up at RB and WR/TE. And I'd take Rice at that spot, but that's just me.

I got MJD, Moss, wayne, schaub, Foster. I was very happy to to get moss that late in the 2nd and couldn't pass on wayne in the 3rd.
