Subject: TSN-style Salary Cap Football

Last spring, RotoHog moved their salary cap baseball game to within the Facebook framework, meaning the the game was only accessible if you had a Facebook account. The interface was also changed, enough so that I was unable to adapt my data-gathering scripts to accommodate, at least in time for the start of the season. There didn’t seem to be any great hue and cry from the Gurupie community, so I just let it pass for baseball. While the Facebook version will also be available for salary cap football (under the label of Fastpoint games), I have also discovered a branded version of the same game that exists outside of Facebook: Fireleague. The Fireleague interface is very similar to the “classic” RotoHog/TSN setup, so that I should be able to adapt my programs to get at salary and position data. Since this game will coexist with the Fastpoint Facebook game, it’s quite possible that player prices will be identical across the two platforms. That’s true for draft prices. But if you want to take advantage of the full range of RotoGuru tools – sortable stats, Assimilator, etc. - I suggest that you enter via the Fireleague portal. |

Another reason you might prefer the Fireleague version:
For the Premier/Elite version (ie. pay up front, no trade buying), the Fastpoint/Facebook version offers the traditional $50 for each division winner. Fireleague, however, offers $100 to the division winner, $50 to second place, and $25 to third place. There must be at least 19 teams in the division to qualify for the division prizes.
The overall prizes are not as generous at Fireleague (e.g., grand prize is $1500 vs $3500 at Fastpoint), but the extra division prizes do offset that to some degree - especially if you don't expect to be in the running for an overall prize.
I would be happy to set up a RotoGuru division at Fireleague, but would only do so if we can get at least 19 teams to enter. That may not happen, based on the experience of recent years. But if you are interested in joining a RotoGuru division, please indicate your interest in this thread.

Guru- I would buy one team if the league looks like it will fill up. I might even be persueded to be treasurer for 10-15 teams so we could reduce the price to $12 a team (regulat $20) if we had enough interest,

I'm going to purchase a team to try the site out. I like the 4 week contests. As much as I hated the company, I miss tsn games.

If it's $12 a team I'd be tempted to buy a team. Granted that's if we get the 19 to make it a prize league.

Assimilator is now up. Haven't had a chance to do much testing, but a quick check seemed OK.

just a warning about Fastpoint Games ( Rotohog). Playing Salary Cap Premier on Facebook thru them, in addition to the regular season game, i have played in their 3 monthly games, June, July, and August, finished in winning positions in all 3, no word from them on prize payment. Have contacted them 5 times now, with no result, except that they are "working on it'. I will not be surprised if they never pay, i regret now that i am also playing football thru them. My regular season premier baseball team is also in good position to win league and be in the top 25, dont expect that they will pay that either. Learned how to play Salary cap here, in the Smallworld days, and also TSN days, and was always in the gurupie standings, loved the competition here, see some familar team names in baseball and football ( Fastpoint) so just trying to issue a warning, just in case.

I also have discovered that the price changes for the Fastpoint version of the game (accessible only thru Facebook) are different that those through the Fireleague site. Apparently, the trade data for the two games is maintained and processed separately.
So while the FireLeague sartibles would work for either game prior to the first price change, the player prices will only track the FireLeague game going forward.

re post 7: Fireleague CEO discusses Fantasy Contests with cash prizes
The message should provide some comfort to those who play the FireLeague brand of this game.
(The selection of font color and/or background color is atrocious, however. Who designed that?!)

Guru, thank you for posting that link, i read all of it, including comments from several TSN names that i recognized, old hippie, and Troyz boyz, Seems they have experienced similar problems with Rotohog-Fastpoint, but with Fireleagues ceo message, and answers to the comments, i believe that Fireleague will pay, and communicate with their customers, two things that Rotohog-Fastpoint doesnt do, at least not for me. Wish i had taken your direction and bought my football team thru Fireleague.I will for the future.

I received an email today from Rotohog, saying that my winnings are $ 125 so far, and they will get a check out asap , but i need to cfm the winnings and advise address for them to send check to. The winnings amount is wrong, it is $ 175 so far, I replied to them with details, and gave them my address again for the 6th time now. When i do get a check from them, i will post that here.

I got the same email. Mine said 75.00 dollars and to confirm. No idea what they were paying but just said great as I might get some money. The email is signed Rotohog but I think they also cover Fastpoint payouts also. I was considering filing a claim with IC3 but just going to avoid anything that concerns either RH or Fastpoint once the trades have been burned. First year I wrote to the Attorney General of CAL to get paid for baseball. One of those checks bounced.

I have emailed both the US Dept of Justice, and the Ca. atty generals gambling division re Fastpoints Salary Cap baseball( non payment of prizes) and Football, season cancellation . I dont expect that i will hear from either, but i do feel better that i advised these two jurisdictions that i think Fastpoint games is in violation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement act of 2006.

THis message is posted at the FireLeague site:We will post a more in depth announcement later this evening but wanted to address this due to the large volume of e-mails we've received today regarding this issue.
As many of you may already know Fastpoint games has announced the cancellation of their fantasy game. This announcement caught everyone by surprise including us. Although FireLeague does utilize the same software platform for our games we are a wholly independent company. FireLeague is owned and operated by Finton LLC. Fastpoint has no operational or financial control of Finton LLC or FireLeague. The FireLeague game will continue this season and for future seasons. The decision by Fastpoint to cancel their games is in no way related to the performance of FireLeague or Finton LLC.
We are currently looking into ways to provide a fantasy contest for owners that have lost their game due to the Fastpoint cancellation. We are looking at all options and hope to have an announcement regarding this within the next 24-48 hours. We realize their are many owners out there that are frustrated and looking for a place to call home. We will do everything we can to accommodate.
So it sounds like the FireLeague version of the game - which is the one covered by the RotoGuru sartibles - will continue, business as usual.

Fireleague has set up their " Elite 2 " game, a shortened version, for us dummies that went with the Fastpoint/Facebook game.
Guru, is it possible without much extra work to include the Elite 2 pricing in the assimulator? The prices are a little different.

I have filed a dispute with my credit card company re the payment for the Fastpoint Premier football game, using the reason that service was not provided, since the game was cancelled. When doing this on line, i noticed a $9.95 payment on 10/13 to Rotohog, and my reaction was wtf. But after thinking about it for a few seconds it dawned on me that this was the payment for the Fireleague Shotgun team that i bought, I went to the Fireleague forum, and asked why was Rotohog showing as the reciever for this payment. This is the response that i got from Chris at Fireleague. " we use the same merchant as Rotohog to process our payments. It should actually show Fireleague. but the merchant made a mistake when they set up the account....Your payment will still come to us and we are 100% responsible for sending out prize checks.Rotohog/Fastpoint has nothing to do with the distrubition of funds related to Fireleague contests. I had thought this was fixed several weeks ago but apparently that is not the case. I will look into this again and hopefully we get it resolved although it's a little late for that at this point. We apologize for the confusion." I was thinking about buying one team in the mid season game, but am now not sure. In other posts on Fireleagues forum, Chris of Fireleague says that Rotohog has no operational or financial control over Fireleague, that Fireleague is wholly owned by Finton LLC. If that is the case, how could a merchant service collecting credit card payments mix up Fireleague and Rotohog? Is there more of a connection than we are aware of?

while filing a dispute with my credit card company over the payment to Facebook for the credits to purchase the Fastpoint games premier game, my credit card company called Facebook, advised them of the issue, and gave me a tel # to call Facebook, 650-543-7818. I called, got a recording, and followed its instructions to go to the Facebook credit support center, games and apps, clicked on "did not receive them", and filled out a form advising them what happened with Fastpoint Games. This morning, i received the following email from the FB Credit support center."I am pleased to report that we have refunded the charge to your funding instrument" goes on to say it will take 7-9 days. So, if you are like me, and have no use for refunded FB credits, in case Fastpoint ever does that, you can go directly to Facebook and get a refund to your credit card.
