So, these three nice, young gentlemen in short sleeved white shirts and ties go ring three doorbells in the South. Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn answer the door and BAM! get punched in the nose. Little Utah State had to bring along a step ladder just to reach! I guess this is what Auburn football looks like without a professional quarterback...
Auburn and Georgia drop out of the top 25.
Great first week of college football. Notre Dame yet again mocks the morons who ranked them in the pre-season and Baylor takes TCU out of the conversation for the year.
Then last night The Terps' new helmets broke my television they were so fuggly! I thought the Boise State v. Georgia game featured the ugliest unis but the Terps ran away with top honors. Seriously, who green lighted those monstrosities? |

Not directly related to college football per se, but there is a move to have fans wear red bandannas at the BC-Central FL game Saturday, in honor of Welles Crowther.
This is something that might really take off.

Once again, SZ, you prove that you know nothing about college football. I'll never expect you to understand, but I'll still give you a link to the box score in case you want to ask someone to help you understand why Auburn almost lost. Hint: the offense still racked up 42 points and 363 yards in 53 plays. Ask your friend to help you look elsewhere, for other missing players that will be playing on Sunday.
And I see Auburn wasn't the only team to barely win against a sub-par opponent last weekend, were they?
I suppose the fact that it took me until just now to realize that Washington barely won and you were clearly obsessing over Auburn shows which school actually has potential to do anything in any given year.

Hit a nerve there, KKB?
I just took a piss that knew more about college football than yourself, my friend. Only you would call my flippant post "obsessing" over Auburn's football team. I don't get the SEC Network, so I doubt they'll even be televised out here again.

KKB, do you believe that Auburn will still have their National Championship in 10 years? Or will their NC and wins be vacated by then?

SZ, then your piss knows that much more about college football than you do. You should listen to it sometime. And your obsession is obvious, even if you don't recognize it. I'm sure if you counted them up, you have more posts and remarks about Auburn than you do your own favorite team. Then again, there hasn't been much to say about the Huskies for quite some time, has there, so I suppose it's understandable.
Frick, absolutely. If the NCAA had anything legitimate, particularly with regard to Auburn (not Miss. St.), they would have been all over it... kind of like Miami, Oregon, and all the other programs that have had actual problems since the Cam Newton scandal.
The fact is that nobody anywhere at any time has ever implicated Auburn and/or Cam Newton. It's always been his father and Miss. St. Until that changes, there's no rule (at the time) that allows it to affect Auburn in any way.

UF's beating UAB 25-0 at the half, which is probably expected by people who don't closely follow Florida. After watching the first half of the game, however, I'm not impressed with the Gators offense. At all. It looks about as mediocre as it did last year, and when SEC play begins, they won't run up 25 points in a half on anyone unless the passing game improves dramatically. The defense looks good, and the special teams look very good, but low talent offense is a recipe for another 8-5 season. I hope I'm just seeing early season kinks being worked out.

Early Heisman favorites - Wisconsin's Russell Wilson edging Stanford's Andrew Luck. Then they meet in the Rose Bowl!

"Game of the Century" my ass! Sign a kicker Nick Saban. Seriously, that was awful, how can you be such a great football program and not sign a guy who can kick a field goal over 40 yards?
Four missed field goals...?

These "Games of the Century" come around every year. God I hate all the hype surrounding them. I just want a good football game.
I was glad LSU won, and that was a decent game, but the overhype just kills it for me most times. Heck, last week's OSU/Wisconsin game was a heck of a lot more exciting.

If you double the total yardage from the "game of the century" you still come up 28 yards short of the OSU-Kansas State game. I am really starting to dislike ESPN

From twitter If the Big Ten had played a 1vs2 game like the on Sat it would have been called what it was, sloppy and boring. That game sucked.

My college team, Ole Miss, is in the SEC west division with Alabame and LSU, unfortunately we have now lost 12 straight SEC games, and as a result the school will announce the firing of Houston Nutt at a 2pm cst press conference today. I can only hope that the new coach, whoever he is, can raise our performance level to compete with other SEC schools. Re the LSU/ALABAMA game, imho, both defenses were way ahead of both offenses, will be interesting to see how either stacks up against an opponent that is strong offensively and defensively , may find out if either makes it to the FBS Championship game.

Keith Price throws for over 400 yards, 4 touchdowns and RUNS for three more, and loses by 11. Sixty seven points, really?

Tough next year for me... Born and raised in Missouri, now live in Georgia... Mizzou and Georgia both in the same conference... Can't wait.

Congrats to the National Champs who didn't win their own division of their conference.
Interesting fact for those who will say that the SEC is the best conference. The SEC was 6-3 in bowl games. The Big12 was 6-2.

Literally. I missed the whole 3rd quarter and didn't feel like I missed anything.
Frick: "Interesting fact for those who will say that the SEC is the best conference. The SEC was 6-3 in bowl games. The Big12 was 6-2."
That's a paper-thin argument when the only things in favor of the argument are a Vanderbilt loss (what else is new?), a Georgia OT loss to a Top 10 team, and an in-conference loss in the national championship.
Outside of OkSt beating an (overrated?) Stanford team, what else did the Big12 really accomplish in the bowl season? Wins over a bunch of 7-6 teams? That's quite a bit short of amazing or worth hanging a "best conference in the nation" argument on.
Oh, and head-to-head, the SEC beat the Big12 by a score of 29-16.

Congrats to Alabama, that is a mighty defense, no doubt.
2011 was an utterly forgettable college football season. Least compelling national title game since the introduction of the BCS. It will be remembered as the Jerry Sandusky "Touched" season. Let's move on...

All I kept thinking while watching that game was about all the teams that put up 50-60 points in their bowl games, and what they might be able to do against these two teams.

Boring, Boring Game.
Run, get stuffed, run, get stuffed, try to pass, miss receiver or drop or sack, run some more, get stuffed... repeat... ad nauseum
Boring, boring, boring...
especially after the NFL games this weekend...

#18: Also, it is probably worth noting that 6+3 =9 while 6+2 = 8. Getting more bowl bids is worth a bit in the "best conference" tally as well.

@PD.. and don't forget SEC has won the last 6 National Championships...
@nerfherders, nothing, Bama defense is #1 for a reason, they only lost the first time around because of missed FG opps...

When you don't beat LSU you get angry. When you get angry you buy a Harley. When you buy a Harley you meet a 25 year old female former college volleyball player. When you meet a 25 year old female former voleyball player, you invite her for a ride on your Harley. When the 25 year old female former volleyball player goes for a ride on your Harley, you end up in a roadside ditch. Don't end up in a roadside ditch. Beat LSU

4 game playoff approved.
I'm not sure what to think about this.
Plus side: No more UConn or Cinci in BCS bowl games.
Down side: Would Boise State have been invited to the four team playoff? TCU? Certainly not Houston. It's obvious that there are a few conferences where every single team will have no chance of being invited to the final four. Doesn't matter if they are perfect, no chance. Is there another sport where that is possible?
College football thrives on controversy, there will be plenty to come.

I really doubt that any team not from the SEC, Big12, Big10, Pac10, or ACC would have made it in under this scenario.
This was about keeping the money in the power conferences and the Big East is getting cut out of the football money.
