0 Subject: RIFC 2011 MFL FANTASY PLAYOFF CHALLENGE

Posted by: judy - Dude [7771722] Thu, Dec 29, 2011, 16:18

Still need a fantasy "fix" after the regular season is over? MFL has a Fantasy League for the Playoffs.

We will use these players:
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 PK
1 DST

You can only use a player once during the playoffs. RIFC scoring rules are in effect. Total points at the end wins!

Wins WHAT? you ask. Nothing but bragging rights...

If you are interested, please either sign up here with your email or email me directly.

Invitations to last year's teams and to newbies will go out early next week. Limit 2 teams per person.

Feel free to invite non RIFC friends and neighbors to participate. The more the merrier.

Here are the options from MFL -- I chose the last one.

Hide Starting Lineups from all owners until:

Never Hide Starters
Kickoff of the first game of the week
Kickoff of the first Sunday game of the week
Kickoff of the last game of the week

If you signed up to get emails, you'll get the preliminary standings.

I am thinking of using option 3 above for revealing starters since there is only one game left after the 1 pm start...

Thoughts?

I see that a coupla folks did not understand the rules. You can only use a player once... It is not like the NFL one...

Apparently I misinterpreted the meaning of "survivor" when I chose many first round-bye players for week 18. Must be something wrong with me.

Sorry about that, but there are still some very good players available for you to use. You could get into the middle of the pack this weekend. Some of us might run put of players by the super bowl.

Is there a way to see who started who and the points they scored? The weeks games are over and it would be nice to be able to look at the decisions other managers made and see what players they already used.

If not, is there a way to see who I started and the points they scored?

Yes -- go to live scoring and scroll down. You get the lineups for each team and the points for each player. It is also what you see once the live scoring becomes "live".

Yes that also works -- but just for completed play. There is still no live scoring, but you will get an email update tonight/tomorrow for the Saturday games. Once it goes live at the start of the Sunday second game, then you can scroll down to see the individual stats.

The big question is: should I play Brady/Gronkowski this week or should I gamble and wait for the Superbowl?

too bad I missed playing Brees/Sproles. RB is getting thin for me now with Rice and Gore already used. looking at others this seem to be their problem too. This challenge may come down to playing a #3 RB in the Superbowl. anyone want to gamble on DJ Ware or Anthony Dixon?

I have two teams. Totally different -- no duplication of players at all (in the same week). Week 1 one did well, the other terrible (maybe because my first choice player all went to team #1). Yesterday team #2 had the big day. So these two teams now have scores of 270.34 and 270.18 and are right beside each other in the standings (9 and 10) without one duplication of players.

Original plan for me was one team Saturday players, the other Sunday players. Last week, the sats did well, suns not so much so I decided to just go for best matchups this weekend. Didn't work except for the Brady to Gronk connection. I still think I will have some decent players left for the SB. The lousy play by GB players killed me a lot, but I wonder how many folks "saved" NO or GB players for the next rounds and will now be scrambling?

It's gonna be a SF - Pats SB. Pats for the win in a close one OR an Akers FG wins it for SF as time expires...

When do pitchers and catchers report?

Hmm submit a lineup and ignore the warnings. I will see what I can find. I know in the regular season, partial lineups are OK, but this is a special set up...

I'll also check last year's teams...

Last year all the final teams did have DST's.

I think if I set the minimum DST to 0, it would work. That would be a rule change though, so I would need to run it by the teams...???

Thoughts? Anyone else in the same boat?

is anyone having the same problem with their kicker?

I had to play the NE defense last weekend to make sure that I have a defense left for the Superbowl. Knowing that I must not play a defense in the Superbowl I definitely would have played a different defense because I like the Patriots defense in the Superbowl much more than the Giants.

what about a manual adjustment of negative pts (-10 ?) for each empty slot? I doubt that any defense can score more negative points than this.

Well, I'm split here... I planned accordingly to have players in all categories available for the final game.. So with that said, I would say "Your SOL".

At the same point, this is just for fun... So really doesn't matter. :)

I'm good either way.

I actually thought we would be able to start an inactive player any week. YWK started Aaron Rodgers in week 1. Why is that different than starting, for example, the Green Bay defense in the Super Bowl?

The rules state "Should owners be allowed to submit players on bye as starters? YES". Isn't Green Bay effectively a bye team this week?

The rules also say "Are Partial Lineups Allowed? YES" Is that something you just changed, Judy?

I'd vote to relax the rules. I always considered that the penalty for running out of active players was a zero for that slot - not a zero for the entire week. That would change the risk-reward substantially.

Did everyone else really think the rules precluded setting a lineup with a player from an inactive team - especially after YWK's mistake in the first week?

Re 77-Toral, when I made this post, I did not realize that 0.08 points separate our teams. The Titans would like to beat the Wheat Farmers on the field and not in the rule book. I am reversing my vote.

The rules are set to allow bye players, but the problem is that the computer program lists only the players left on teams in the actual Super Bowl. All players not on either NY or NE have been removed from your choice possibility.

The only way (that I can see) to bypass the computer preset that MFL uses for this playoff challenge is to reduce the minimum players to 8 and then you can leave DST blank. (I can also set it so that anyone without a punter can still play) All the other positions have depth so you can put in any NY or NE player back up. For example, last season someone had to use Flynn for QB, even through he would not play -- it did fulfill the lineup requirements.

What we do not know is if the incomplete lineup will still generate points for the players listed or a big fat zero for the whole team... You just get a warning that your lineup is not legal, not a threat that you will get a zero for the day...

I just sent this off to the MFL Help Center:
We have a league in the MFL playoff challenge. One of our guys used up all the DST and thus has no one to put in that roster slot.

If he leaves the DST blank does he still get points for the other players in his lineup?

I know that I can manipulate the roster rules to accommodate his issue but I hesitate to change league rules midstream. We are discussing this as a league, but your answer would really help us.

So here is the question: does an incomplete lineup (no DST in this case) generate a zero for his whole team or just for the DST slot?

They will reply in 24 hours!

Promise -- I too planned carefully to be sure to have both a starting DST and QB for the SB. The rest of my lineup is mostly backups, but those two spots are set as planned.

I guess I will need to emphasize that for next season depending upon the answer from MFL...

If this were for $$$$, fortune and fame and not just bragging rights, I would agree to no rule changes and that toral is SOL!

We will await the reply from MFL, but if you have an opinion in the meantime, please chime in!

Here is the answer from MFL -- quick!

Judy:

Yes, the system will score all starters that he submits, even if it's not a complete lineup - he will get points for all other players.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.

Thanks,
Kevin

loki :It's my #2 team, the Loyalists, that is affected, not the 'Farmers.

That's part of the reason this occurred; I chose the Loyalists from among players NOT starting for the 'Farmers, so risk avoidance was not optimal. Naturally, it's doing better than my #1 team.

Judy: My lineup has been accepted, where as yesterday when I tried tos et it, it was rejected, so things look OK.

Toral-My starters consisting of Manning, Bradshaw, Green-Ellis, Branch, Manningham, Edelmam, Gronkowski, Tynes and the NE Defense will bury both of your teams. The only poor starter is the NE D as my Giants win the SuperBowl!!!!
