Sorry this is so late. The RIFC season ended more than a week ago, but an intervening vacation week and NBA startup issues crowded this out.

Congrats to Bonka, who entered the playoffs as the #3 seed - but actually had the highest point total for the season - and then prevailed in the playoffs. Special kudos to Shortbus, who eeked into the playoffs as the #8 seed but then advanced to the finals before losing to Bonka by less than one point.

This thread is also for a recap of all of the 2011 RIFC leagues, including the AAA leagues and the AA league. Any manager is welcome to post any post-season reflections on the season - what went well, what didn't, what lessons were learned, etc. Also, if there are any rule changes that anyone thinks should be considered for next year, please suggest them here, even if they were already mentioned elsewhere. That will make them easier to recall next summer.

I'll post the final RIFC standings in a moment, and provide links to the results of the four qualifying leagues as well.

It's easy to say 2011 was the year of the quarterback. Four QB's (Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Stafford) put up numbers that would easily win MVP in most seasons.

There was also a huge dropoff between these four + Newton, and everyone else. I am not sure what that means for next year's draft, but it is interesting.

IAC's RANT / Recap of RIFC 2011

In a word, Pathetic!

Yes, missing out on a QB that put up "respectable" #s was one big issue, but the injuries to McFadden/Hillis/Hightower really hurt. I had "reached" somewhat to get Hillis/Hightower especially, and while healthy I was overall happy with their performances.

My WRs performed "good enough" due to production out of Cribbs/Hester, and my trade for Steve Smith/Michael Bush (McFadden Handcuff) for Gates/Flacco was made possible due to the out of this world season by Gronk. I think this was a smart move by both teams, and it stopped the bleeding left by P.Manning's absence which left Reggie Wayne on my bench in most weeks.

What really put the final nail in the coffin however, was not being able to separate from the pack in the IDP department. My squad really finished of underwhelming on the year, again injuries to J.Tuck, E.Berry, L.Landry, J.Vilma, C.Dunlap, T.Davis... and on and on... WOW, what a horrible year for injuries!

I look forward to hopefully re-building my morale down in AAA next year, and come back to once again field a competitive line-up in 2013.

I'll add my recap later (probably this weekend) but I wanted to note the proposal to set the initial waiver wire order to the inverse of the order for selecting draft slots. A minor item I know but there you go.

Not that it matters but the stats in the PF column of AAA#1 are wrong somehow. I was trying to compare scoring among the leagues, just out of curiosity. The PA column looks accurate. The other leagues seem to be reported correctly, at a glance.

It looks like they are all different. One league counts points scored for both weekly double headers while others don't. Another league counts PA in doubleheaders but not PF. The main page for the AA league is terrible.

It looks like it keeps tallying PF through the playoffs. clicking on week 13 gives the accurate regular season finish.

Yea, it did that last year.
My AAA listed the double points for both PF and PA but the others did not list double for PF. I have no idea what I did to make it different...It made comparison easier though...but then you just used the average numbers for a better idea anyway.

Yo IAC

If you are pathetic with 10 wins imagine how I feel with just 5.

I was so excited to earn a spot in RIFC, but it turned out so badly...

This was the worst team I ever fielded. Injuries were a major factor and then I had the misfortune of unlucky matchups -- my last shoulda won was 13-1 and I was 1-1!

My first 7 draft picks grossly underperformed: A Johnson (63 pts -- note points are for the whole 17 week season so a bit deceiving esp for Rivers), Rivers (254.56), Ingram (81.00), Mathews (188.60), Mayo (103.50 injured early so dumped week 4), MThomas (Jax) (58.90 never started for me, dropped week 7), Timmons (106.50 decent first 2 games, dropped week 7)

Sanchez (239.26) and Rivers were about equal, so I swapped them in and out and whoever was on the bench got the higher point total for that week. C’mon, man!

The best draft picks were A Brown (14th; 197.88 pts) and Jason Pierre-Paul (15th; 183.50), Von Miller (19th; 139.50), Sheard (24th; 111.00). When finally used Helu (10th; 117.90) and T Young (17th; 100.20) were decent, but they did not see much action early enough to matter.

I did not make any significant WW/FA pickups except maybe Clay Matthews, Wimbley and Byrd for a few weeks -- just IDP’s. Could not find any offensive WW worth getting...

If this were a dynasty/keeper league I would be set nicely with these nine keepers:
Rivers, Ingram, Mathews, Helu, Brown, T Young, A Johnson, Pierre Paul, Miller…

So it will back to AAA for me, hopefully as a commish and I can earn my way back to the Big Boys. Sigh.

My 1st round pick, Michael Vick, was a disappointment, although at least he was healthy for the playoffs - which was my stated goal in the rationale. Could've taken Drew Brees. Or MJD - although he kind of burned me as my top pick the year before.

Happy with Matt Forte, my second rounder. He, unfortunately, crapped out just as the playoffs were to start. I had Barber as a backup, but had dumped Khalil Bell earlier in the season, which was probably a mistake.

Brandon Lloyd was my third round pick, and did OK once traded away from Denver. He did struggle during the end, when St. Louis had no QB.

My 4th rounder was Felix Jones - which at least induced me to take Demarco Murray later on (rnd 14) as a handcuff.

Round 5: Wes Welker. Nice.

Round 6: Marcedes Lewis. Oops.

Round 7: Santana Moss. Dropped him after he got injured. Wasn't able to get him back when he recovered. No big deal, although he would have been useful in the first playoff game (14.10 pts).

At this point in my review, I'm wondering how I ever managed to get the #4 seed in the playoffs!

I did have some decent IDP success, with Suggs (8th round), Greenway (9), Urlacher (11), Branch (12), Harper (15). Avril, Arrington, and Pollard were useful F/A pickups.

I think this all attests to the fact that this is a competitive league, and most teams are going to be in the middle of the pack. Somehow, I just managed to be slightly above the average - but that was good enough until the playoffs hit. And from that point, I was hurt by lack of RB depth, with Forte going down in week 13, then Murray in week 14, then Barber...

Guru, I don't know how you got that team into the playoffs with all the injuries and bad luck etc. I also think thats partly why I dislike fantasy football to an extent, I feel like its 80% luck of the matchups. I've had teams similar to the above make it in the playoffs, and dominant teams like my F101 team this year that just crap out when it matters.

I had a team with Megatron and Brady 1-2, and the highest scoring kicker in the history of fantasy football, and still didnt make the playoffs.

Starting with the best part of my team--- Foster (and Tate early when Foster was out), and the combination of Best and Bush provided the highest RB point totals in the league. Foster was an absolute beast. He had the highest per game average. I was concerned when Best went down. I figured I might end up starting Foster and Tate (not unlike last year when I started Charles and Thomas Jones for half the year). Bush really came alive right when I needed him and played well for me weeks 8-14.

LBs and TE position were slightly above average. Witten slowed down as the season progressed. Lee, Johnson, and Cushing were all good at various times during the season.

Eli was the 6th best starting QB but, drafted 13th among QBs, exceeded expectations yet again this year. I had him last year and felt he would be "acceptable". Instead he turned out to be "exceptional".

My WRs were OK. Greg Jennings was 5th among WR. This was above his draft position. Steve Johnson started strong and ended strong, but disappeared in the middle part of the season. Jacoby Ford never got anything going for me. Injured too much. That was a wasted 7th round pick. Others filled in--sometimes good, sometimes awful.

At DL, Clemons was streaky. Gave me a few 10+ point games but also several <4 points. Dumervil was a welcomed addition when he got healthy in the middle of the season.

Both my primary starting DBs ended in the top 15 at the position, but I was still below average in points scored by DBs. I had both McCourty's for a time, but didn't end up ever getting to start both of them in the same week.

As far as overall season results, I was 3rd overall in scoring during the regular season, had only the 7th best record, and ended up with the 5th seed. I will give myself the "most consistent" award, as I didn't have any real stinker weeks. My Min PF was 127.28. The next best in that category was 118. In the playoffs I got a "good matchup" but couldn't capitalize. Foster threw up his only single-digit game of the season against the Bengals (if only he could've done what he did to them in the playoff game yesterday!). Even if I had gotten by that, I would've lost to Bonka in the finals. Congrats to him, as he was the best team the majority of the season.

With regards to rules, maybe we should clarify what "cycling" isn't, since there was some question as to whether picking up someone on Wednesday and dropping him on Sunday was cycling. Maybe we want to adjust the lockout period for players dropped during the week.

Thanks to Guru for running a great league! I'm looking forward to it again next year.
