Subject: RIFC 2012: Draft Discussion
Posted by: Guru
- [330592710] Sat, Aug 25, 2012, 10:55
The RIFC draft officially starts Sunday, August 26. The clock will be set at 6 hours but will not be active until Monday, with a moratorium from 1am-7am EDT. Please note: The clock will continue to run on weekends.
People at the endpoints of the draft have only one single time limit to make their consecutive picks. Similarly, the clock will be manually advanced to skip past anyone who already has a pick in arrears, unless other arrangements have been made in advance of that pick.
Remember that we are using a “Banzai” draft order, which differs from the traditional snake in that the order of the third round (and only that round) is reversed. The MFL system shows the correct order.
We will maintain a draft discussion thread here, but it will probably not be used extensively. If you know that you have pending time constraints, please post them in this thread. (e.g., "I'll be away until 6pm ET, so if my pick is due before then, you'll have to wait.") To the extent that you can alert everyone to potential availability issues, you can help others to plan their check-in times accordingly. That's simply good draft etiquette. I’ll also use this thread for general announcements about the draft.
Note that trades during the draft are allowed. Trades should be announced here, and may include any combination of picks and/or players.
Players who are not yet listed at myfantasyleague.com may be drafted, and if so, a placeholder player will be assigned to your roster until that player is available. Once the draft is complete, you may no longer sign (or protect) an unlisted player.
Please be sure you understand all of the scoring and roster rules for this league. The current rules will be copied into post 2 of this thread.
Rationales will be expected for each pick, but delayed by two rounds. When we near the end of round two, I will set up a thread for those.
Please refrain from mentioning undrafted players, either in this thread, or in your posted rationale.
If you wish to track the draft without directly accessing the mfl site (e.g., if that site is blocked from your access at work), the following links may be used:
List view: http://69.13.158.155/cgi-bin/mfldraft.pl?league=46266 Grid view: http://69.13.158.155/cgi-bin/mfldraftgrid.pl?league=46266
This will also allow you to keep tabs on other RIFC drafts as well. Note, however, that this is strictly a viewing mechanism. It will not allow you to actually enter a draft pick, or set up a queue. For that, you will still need to log directly into the mfl site - or else email the commish to do it.

RD 6 BRANDON PETTIGREW TE DETROIT felt TE was most pressing need for this pick. my Q listed finley at top, but he went pick before. with a healthy PETTIGREW there should be plenty of upside. high powered offense. RD7 DEANGELO WILLIAMS RB CAROLINA every year the prediction is less carries for DA and more for stewart. i predict the opposite. i hadn't penciled in an RB on this rd, but couldn't pass him up. stewart's injured also RD 8 DAVID AKERS K SAN FRAN i noticed the trend in the league was switching toward DEF, but this guy outscored all DEF PLAYERS in 2011. i believe he's a steal

18.11 Daniel Thomas, RB MIA Did I miss the memo? Is Reggie Bush, after one healthy season, all of the sudden a durable back? I had Bush last season and was waiting for something bad to happen. I doubt he can make it through another season unscathed, thus I am taking his backup here. Thomas can do something (worthy of 18th Rd) with the starting job, or even take a bigger share of early down work with Bush healthy. Maybe.
19.04 TJ Ward, DB, CLE I wanted a safety capable of big numbers. I know that Ward did it a couple of years ago, so hopefully he can do it again this year. Hoping he rebounds well from an injury-plagued season last year. I had also considered Arenas at this spot. I just couldn't pull the trigger w/o knowing how much he'll play on D.

since i now don't need to repost, i'll start where i think i haven't posted.
RD 14 COBY FLEENER TE INDY most fantasy experts predict big things for him. i figured if predictions come true, he's a nice option at WR/TE. rd 15 JEROME SIMPSON WR/CONVICT MINN. if he's not in solitaire he could contribute by week 9. how do you not love guy who does sommersaults into the endzone. RD 16 CHRISTIAN PONDER QB MINN. of the remaining QB'S He has the best matchup in Aaron Rodgers bye week. RD 17 DWIGHT FREENEY in my Q AND PRAY THAT HE PLAYS RD 18 LAMICHAEL JAMES RB SAN FRAN just gambling that he can make some plays on 3rd down. i didn't even consider him until he showed probable week 1

15.13 Doug Baldwin, SEA, WR I needed a 4th WR and one that didn't have a week 8 bye. He is coming off a hamstring injury, but should be healthy before I need to insert him into the line-up. He had just under 800 yards and 4 TD's last year. I am curious what he can do with a new QB who seems like he can sling it all over the field. Speaking of which, I considered Wilson with 14.02 and he would have been on my short list for this pick.
16.02 Taiwan Jones, OAK, RB I am surprised the McFadden owner hasn't snagged this handcuff yet as McFadden has yet to play a full 16 games in any season. As a Raider fan, I hope he does this year and that this was a mostly wasted pick. Then again, if the Raiders are smart they will spell McFadden a bit more and try to keep him healthy. Jones has a lot of talent and speed. If he can break one around the corner and get into the open field, he can score from anywhere.
17.13 Santana Moss, WAS, WR In 2010 Santana was an 1100 yard, 6 TD receiver. I've had him on multiple teams over the last 9 years and think he still has something left in the tank. With better QB play and the addition of additional offensive weapons, there is a good chance he can contribute quite a bit this year. I drafted him as a bye week filler/injury replacement player and feel good about this pick.
18.02 Tony Moeaki, KCC, TE In his rookie season he put up 550 yards and 3 TDs (targetted 73 times out of 450 attempts by Cassel). I thought he was going to have a break-out season last year, but then he was injured and lost for the year. I have a stud TE that I can start weekly, but I think this was a good spot to gamble on a player coming back big from an injury.

20.11 Lance Briggs, LB, CHI I still don't have my IDP flex filled in. I guess Briggs will do. He seems to be the highest remaining LB on my list. He doesn't play the middle, which I don't like so much, but should get opportunities. He was a top 25 LB last season and should be able to duplicate it again this season.
21.04 Garrett Hartley, PK, NOS I was barely coherent enough to make this pick, so I just went with a kicker. Couldn't decide what else I needed, so I grabbed Hartley. Now that he has won the job, I figured he'd be highly sought after. Normally I wouldn't pick a Kicker this "early", but it was a means to an end--my bed.

11.12 Curtis Lofton, LB, NO
Lofton will be ready for week 1. He's a top 10 LB and I'm a Sooners fan so this was an easy pick. He's with the Saints now and I'm not sure what impact that will have but I think he'll still be top 10 caliber. 87 solo and 60 assists last season. That's a lot of tackling.
12.03 Lance Moore, WR, NO
Thought he was a pretty good reserve WR this late in the draft. With Meacham gone to the Chargers I think Moore is due for some more targets. He had a good off-season and has always been good for some huge games here and there. We'll see what happens. I kind of considered Amendola as another WR4 possibility but thought he might drop a little lower (graham cr. took him at 13.02). An IDP wouldn't have been a bad way to go here but I really didn't like how thin the ranks of draftable WR's was getting.

20.10 Curtis Brinkley, RB, SD
There's a 1% chance that he will be the primary ball carrier against Oakland and do well in the role. The Chargers have shown that they will happily let someone else vulture TDs from Matthews. Ronnie Brown is just not the guy, and last year proved that in Philly.
Most likely Brinkley doesn't last until week 2.

21.05 Michael Floyd, WR, ARI
With Skelton being named the starter, what's to prevent Floyd from being the Torrey Smith of 2012? He's talented, he's got Larry Fitzgerald opposite him to worry the defense, and they're going to have to throw a ton. Sounds like the perfect pick in round 21 to me!

12.05 Jerrod Mayo
I can see Mayo making 100 tackles this season. A strong IDP can change a teams results more then most people thing.
13.10 Randy Moss
You never know which Moss will show up this year, but everything i have seen says he returned in good shape. If Crabtree is sucking up double teams and Davis is controlling the middle Moss might see some single coverage for the long ball.
14.05 JJ Watt
Needed a DL player and i have seen good things from Watt last season. Hoping he can get a few tackles and a sack a game.
15.10 Andy Daulton
Needed a back up and the picking got slim quick. I like Dalton because someone needs to throw AJ all those TD passes.
16.05 Ndamukong Suh
See JJ Watt- only with bigger upside
17.10 Darrell Revis
I wanted to get a shut down corner with an upside for an int return here or there. Should also deflect some passed.
18.05 Maurice Clayborn
I expect this guy to be a stud this season. He should have some action as a rookie, maybe a pick 6. HE is also a homer pick.
19.10 Aldon Smith
Quality LB playing opposite the best LB in the game. Should get some single blocking and take advantage of that.
20.05 Steven Gostkowski
Earlier then I usually take a kicker, but if you have a shot at the kicking from NE this late you have to grab him.
21.10 Ronnie Brown
Just a handcuff for Ryan Matthews if needed.
22.05 Golden Tate
Big upside- back up WR

13.12 Jacob Tamme, TE, DEN
Honestly I was in a hurry to leave for lunch and just made a snap decision. IDP's had gotten to a point where I figured it didn't matter if I took one now or a few rounds later. My starting TE is F Davis and he's no sure thing. I had Tamme on my squad in 2010 when D Clark went down and Manning targeted him 93 times in 10 games. He hasn't done much in the preseason and he has some competition and may split snaps so this may turn out to be a stinker.
14.03 Sam Bradford, QB, StL
As a Sooners fan and a Rams Fan I've been a frequent fantasy owner of Bradford. Maybe this will be the year. Heaven forbid that Cam Newton gets hurt this year but you've got to have a QB2 and I thought Bradford was the most talented of the QB's left on the board. He'll have a better set of receivers to work with this season, and hopefully he gets some more protection. An improved defense will help things too.

15.12 Chris Long, DE, StL
Outside of 2, maybe 4 guys, DL are a dime a dozen.Maybe I should have waited longer to take my 2nd DE. Oh well. Long had 13.5 sacks last year but like most DL he doesn't get many tackles otherwise. What I hate is those 1 point games from a DE. They're going to happen but you try to minimize it. Long scored 6 or more points in 11 out of 16 games last year, and didn't have any zero point games. Worth a shot. As always though, I'll be keeping my eye on the FA's. I grabbed Calais Campbell off the FA list last year. Something always turns up.

16.03 Patrick Chung, S, NE
16th rd is here and I still have no DB's. We have to start two of them so it dawns on me that I should probably grab one here. Chung has a good chance to be a top 10 DB this season and almost definitely a top 20 if he remains on the field.
17.12 Chris Rainey, RB, PIT This might turn out to be a steal here in the 17th. He's small but explosive - very similar to D Sproles. With the Steelers RB situation this year, who knows what could happen? He's an excellent pass target and super return man (had TD punt returns of 78 and 90 yards called back on penalties in the last preseason game, had a 57 yd reception for TD in his 1st preseason game, also had a 41 yd TD rush in game 3). I believe the Steelers will find a way to get this guy on the field. He's probably the best in the open field on their team.

20.14 LaRon Landry, S, NYJ
I figured I'd wrap up my IDP starters with this pick and grab a DB. Got my top guy in Landry, so I'm pleased with that but it's not a huge deal because he likely will not put up the numbers he did 2 years ago in this Jets defense. But the individual potential is there, so I'll take a shot on him.
21.01 Bernard Pierce, RB, BAL
This guy is likely going to just eat a roster spot all year for nothing, but I wanted to grab him just in case Rice got hurt. He's not a high priority handcuff since I'm not even sure if he'll hold the #2 spot and would probably split carries, but better to have something than nothing if Rice does go down. The rest of the remaining RBs are in the same situation of needing an injury or terrible play, so just makes sense to handcuff Rice here. I probably would have taken Hardesty in this spot if he was available and tried grabbing Pierce the following round.

18.03 Alfred Morris, RB, WAS
Just building some RB possibilities. Who knows if any fantasy relevant RB's will come out of Washington this season. Morris was a healthy scratch in the last game so this may mean he's going to start in week 1. Worth an 18th rd pick.
19.12 Brian Quick, WR, StL
Will probably be waiver fodder if he doesn't do something for me real early in the season. He's a big receiver (6'3 220) and has a lot of upside. Just need him to do something early in the season.

20.03 Akeem Dent, LB, ATL
Dent will be the starting MLB for the Falcons. We don't know what kind of numbers he'll put up. If he's good then I have him on my team. If he's bad then I'll quickly make an exchange.
21.12 Danieal Manning, S, HOU
Manning has been one of the best KO returners in recent years. If he doesn't return kicks this year then I might have to look for other options. If he does do some returning(and it looks like they are leaning that way) then this is a pretty good pick.
22.03 Alex Green, RB, GB
He may end up with starting job in GB at some point. Will he be on my squad when that happens? That is the question. Kind of surprised he is left sitting here in rd 22.
23.12 Dan Bailey, K, DAL I decided to draft a kicker after all. Bailey is a kicker.
24.03 James Harrison, LB, PIT Sounds like he'll be ready for week 1 (but probably not at full strength). Harrison missed some games last year so his stats were down but he ranked 11 overall in points per game for LB in this league (9.8 per game).

Sorry, I'm so behind.
8.08 Malcom Floyd, SDC, WR With the departure of Vincent Jackson hopefully Floyd gets some more targets, but a healthy Gates could get some additional targets. Rivers has been a tier 2 QB in the past and their system hasn't changed, someone has to get the yards, hopefully Floyd gets enough to justify this pick.
11.07 Brent Celek, TE, Phi TEs were going fast and often this year. The massive years by Gronk and Graham have raised the profile, we will see if the continuing explosion in passing makes TEs worth it. I think it will, the question becomes do a few elite TEs produce enough to warrant a 1st or 2nd round pick.
12.08 Eric Berry, DB, KC
He produces a ton of tackles, I would have preferred a DB who also has a lot of returns, but they have gone earlier. At least the ones that have a solid KR/PR role, KR/PR roles are often based on the other needs and who is active on a Sunday. I'll take the more stable production of Berry.
13.07 D.J. Smith, LB, GB
We can start 3 LB, I've taken my LB3 earlier than most, hopefully it results in a solid IDP group that gives me production week in and out.
14.08 Pierre Thomas, RB, NO The NO RB situation is a mess. I have Ingram in a keeper league he is frustrating to say the least. Getting a RB who has a chance at getting a decent number of touches in the 14th round? I'm happy with that. In an offense as explosive as NO's? I'll very happily take that.
15.07 Russell Wilson, QB, Sea
I watched Wilson at Wisconsin and was very impressed. As someone said in the G24 thread, if Wilson was a a few inches taller, he might have been taken ahead of RGIII and been in discussions for #1 overall with Luck. He has more value in dynasty leagues than this format, but hopefully he gives me some insurance in case of injury in my other QBs.
16.08 Haloti Ngata, DL, Bal Finding a DL who produces stats is tough. I probably would have gotten similar production if I had just gone with a WW pick-up after the draft. DL might have less value than PKs in this league.
17.07 Kyle Rudolph, TE, Min
A back-up TE who has potential to produce. Harvin has a history of missing games, which could lead to more targets for Rudolph. With Celek's history of injuries this seems like a prudent pick.
18.08 Eric Weddle, DB, SD
Weddle will hopefully get a ton of tackles. I should just have copied my rationale from Berry as the logic is the same.
19.07 Matt Shaughnessy, DL, Oak
Another DL, again see the rationale above.

22.10 Dexter McCluster, WR, KC
Total shot in the dark based on how he has been used in the preseason. No question in his ability to make big plays, it's whether he will get used. If the preseason was just an experiment and his usage is like past seasons, he will not be on my roster for long.

24.10 DeAngelo Hall, DB, WAS
I still needed a flex IDP so I grabbed Hall as the top guy left on my board at DB or LB. He's a playmaker yet inconsistent so I might get tired of that pretty quick. Fortunately, we have a waiver wire so that's not an issue.

22.11 James Jones, WR, GB Lots of weapons in GB. Jones may or may not make a splash. He had 600+ yards and 7 TDs last year. Jennings was recently injured, Driver is just plain old, and Cobb is more of a threat as a returner. If Jones can get some time on the field, he can make plays. Something on Rotoworld suggested he could even be traded to the Dolphins. Not sure if that would be a good thing or a bad thing.
23.04 Janoris Jenkins, DB, STL Last round my queue actually had Dawan Landry at the top and Jones second. Maybe I lucked out that Landry was taken, as I like everything I read about Jenkins. He should start at CB. He has a reasonable chance to get PR and/or KR duties too. Not sure if it happens, but if it did, then he can be this year's Patrick Peterson. Even if not, he could stick on the team.
24.11 Vick Ballard, RB, IND Happy to throw one more RB dart. Who knows how much Ballard plays this season. Maybe he starts at some point, or maybe he's buried on the depth chart. For the chance he starts, I will take him here over a backup TE, a 4th LB, or a 3rd DE.

22.14 Justin Tucker, K, BAL
I decided to take my kicker here since no RBs/WRs stood out that I really needed to grab. I'll wait until the very last pick in the draft to get one of those. Tucker won the job over Cundiff on a team that generally is a good situation for kicker scoring.
23.01 Erin Henderson, LB, MIN
Just taking a shot on one of the remaining LBs who could put up good numbers as a 3 down backer. He'll have to do pretty well to keep his spot in the first week or two.
24.14 Mike Tolbert, RB, CAR
Last year I grabbed Patrick Peterson in this round, and well...that's pretty much one of the best 24th round picks in this league ever, if not the best. While I'd love to repeat that, it's not going to happen. Tolbert isn't going to do a whole lot unless JStew or DWill get hurt. Just a lottery ticket here.

21.13 Brandon Weeden, CLE, QB I really botched-up getting a back-up QB, especially because I knew how everyone drafts back-ups early. 9 bench spots is actually ridiculous for a league that only starts 15 players. I've seen players drafted that won't be drafted in keeper leagues with smaller benches. We really need to crank up the starters by another 3 or drop 4 bench spots. So anyway, way back at 12.02, I thought about drafting Schaub instead of Leshoure. Then in the 14th round I almost pulled the trigger on Wilson, but was hoping he would fall more. That's pretty much been my story with several positions this draft; uncomfortable with taking a player in a certain spot when I see better value elsewhere and then finding myself drafting a much lower talent level at that position rounds later. I really need Romo to stay healthy or I could be in big trouble.
22.02 Dawan Landry, JAC, S I wanted a third DB for depth/bye week replacement. Landry gets a lot of tackle opportunities and is a solid player. I still need a kicker and just realized I only have two more picks to go. I don't know why I was thinking 3 more picks. I also see that Holt just took Alex Green, which I thought was the pick I had at the top of my queue for this round. That certainly does make my last two picks easier.
23.13 Rod Streater, OAK, WR This was supposed to be Alex Green, my Benson handcuff. Instead I will take a flier on the undrafted WR who is catching (mostly) everything Palmer throws his way. The Raiders have a lot of speedy, young receivers who all seem to get dinged up. Unless one of my starters get hurt or he earns a starting role and is producing, he shouldn't get much, if any, playing time on my roster.
24.02 Matt Bryant, ATL, PK This is my kicker. There are many like him, but this one is mine. It is my fantasy team. I must master my kicker position as I must master my roster...

20.06-Mason Crosby, PK, GBP-There was no one that I wanted at this point in the draft so it made sense to choose a PK. Gostkowski was higher in my queue, but Wiggs drafted him before me.
21.09-Kevin Boss, TE, Kan-Boss had a bad year after his trade from the NYGs due to a multitude of injuries. He is healthy, on a new team and I think he will regain the form that he showed with the Giants making him a good pick for TE2.
22.06-Nate Burleson, WR, Det-Burleson is listed after Calvin Johnson on Detroit’s depth chart, and Stafford will have to find someone to pass to when Johnson is unable to escape from double coverage.
23.09-Josh Gordon, WR, Cle-I would have preferred a RB here, but there was not one remaining worth even a 24th round pick. Gordon has sleeper potential.
24.06-Adrian Claybon, DL, Tam-He was the best I could find for DL2.

21.11 Scott Chandler, TE, BUF similar to the situation at QB, I also looked for a backup TE a long time ago but there was nobody out there. I waited and waited until I felt a TE was worth to pick. Chandler has potential to put up bigger numbers than Gonzalez, but I don't know if he will show this on the field this season. you can't expect more at this time of the draft. There aren't any sleepers left. these players are now named gambles.
22.04 Jordan Babineaux, DB, TEN after my last pick I researched the available DBs because I wanted to take my #3 with this pick. as soon as I found Dawan Landry I stopped searching because I had my guy. a few hours later Holt expires and Landry was queued up by someone else. So I had to dig again into the DB pool and search for someone else. I already marked Babineaux a few hours ago but was not sure about him. some depth charts have him only as a #2, others as a #1. so called experts saw him as a good defender worth newly signed 5 million contract. I don't know what to expect here. if he starts and gets a similar number of tackles than last year until he shared time with Chris Hope in the last few games. if he does not start he is waiver wire fodder.
23.11 David Nelson, WR, BUF because of bye-weeks I would have only 3 available WRs in round 5 and 11. Week 11 is far away, but I need a plan for week 5. I know there are waivers, but with the new blind bid system you don't know how high some hot WRs are valued by others. From todays point of view the old system was more predictable because you only had a maximum of 13 players to go before you are up and there are at least some at other positions so putting a few WRs in you queue got you one. especially when the waiver order is reset the first few weeks. this is all not the case this year so I'll better take one now and if he does not work I can exchange him against a more targeted receier come week 5.
speaking of Nelson: his yardage may stay around 600yds. but the additional value are the above average TD numbers he puts up, thanks to his size. If he can continue being a red-zone threat he may do fine for me.
24.04 Lawrence Tynes, K, NYG every year I am thinking about taking a kicker in the last round of the draft or shortly before gameday on Sunday. If an olympic runner would have been available here I would have taken him. this was not possible because: 1) silver medalist Jeff Demps was put on IR by the Patriots 2) 3-time gold medalist Usain Bolt, The Legend, was not available at MFL
so I had to take a kicker. since they are all a dime a dozen I took one on an offense that should score a lot and that also has a late bye-week. this way I can observe the kicker market early on and then take a similar scoring one that already had his bye. there is hope that there will be a lot of TDs from from Eli to Cruz with an XP from Tynes. this would be an automatic 11pts for my team, no matter how deep the throw was.

Please continue to post your rationales here. I'll copy them over in the next day or so.
Any undrafted player may now be claimed through preseason blind bidding. Bids will be settled at noon on Wednesday (same schedule as regular season), after which free agents will be available FCFS at 3pm on Wednesday.
Please use this time to familiarize yourself with the blind bidding process and layout, even if you have no interest in placing a bid.

18.06-Bobby Wagner, LB, Sea-This pick was to add a necessary player to my defense. He seemed to be as good as anyone remaining.
19.09-Montario Hardesty, RB, Cle-This was my 1st mispick of the draft. I had a number of RBs ranked higher, but must have moved him up in my queue by mistake. At least I did it in the 19th round.

23.10 James Starks
I took starks here hoping he may play at some point this year and if he does it might be a nice bump going into the play offs if I make them. I really didnt need anyone here so I took a flyer on a guy with upside.
24.10 Devery Henderson
Slim Pickings at this point- took a guy that had drew brees throwing to him. hope he can catch a couple td passes.

As per judy's directions I re-post this here:
So, I had a little time to play with the system a little bit, and I noted the following:
If you go to trades, and once you select a team to trade with, the rosters will then be displayed and at the bottom of the rostered players is a box which indicates: Blind Bidding Dollars.
Can you include Blind Bidding Dollars in a trade?

Yeah, I mentioned that when we were discussing changing to blind bid. They can be tradeable. I don't think we ever said officially if that was allowed or not, but I see no reason not to.
There is an option to allow/disallow it. Some leagues may not be set properly to allow it.

17.08 Earl Thomas, S, SEA I only had one DB on my team, so I was looking for another. Thomas is a 3rd year safety with playmaking abilities. He was a top 20 fantasy DB last season. His interceptions went down from 5 to 2 in his 2nd season and his tackle numbers went up. I expect his tackle numbers to remain high this season, and he will hopefully have a big play or two to make him a top 10 DB.
18.07 Evan Royster, RB, WAS Royster is in the mix to be the Redskins starting RB. Shanahan likes to try different RBs until he finds one he likes. If Royster doesn't initially win the starting job, I plan to keep him until I need to make some moves because of byes.
19.08 Lance Kendricks, TE, STL I got Kendricks as a backup TE to Vernon Davis. He is an athletic TE with pass catching skills who was a disappointment as a rookie in 2011. I think he has a better chance to do well this season with a full training camp and a new coaching staff.
20.07 Daryl Smith, LB, JAC I chose Smith to add depth to my linebackers and to fill in on bye weeks. He has consistently had around 100 tackles the last few years.
21.08 Darian Stewart, S, STL Stewart is my 3rd DB to add depth and fill in on bye weeks. He had good fantasy numbers in his first two seasons in the league.
22.07 Alex Henery, K, PHI I try to pick a kicker when the players similar to those I am choosing will be available as free agents during season. Henery had a solid rookie season with the Eagles. He should have plenty opportunities to score because of the strength of the Eagles offense.
23.08 Josh Cribbs, WR, CLE Cribbs one of the few playmakers on the Browns. Even if he doesn't play much at WR, he has a chance to score points returning kicks and can be used on bye weeks.
24.07 Tamba Hali, LB, KC I should have used this pick for a 2nd DL, but I forgot we needed 2 in this league. Hali is suspended for the first game, but should be productive after that. He is a pass rushing 3-4 LB who had 12 sacks last season.

19.06 Isaiah Pead RB STL
My RB situation is a little dicey so a few lottery tickets wouldn't hurt. And with all the committees around the league, there aren't that many actual lottery tickets left that could pay off. Reports are good on Pead, we know Jeff Fisher is going to run the ball, Stephen Jackson has a history of injuries, and just to round it out, Pead will be handling some return duties so that helps with his floor.
20.09 Matt Cassel QB KC
I wasn't worried about backup QB since I have Brady as my starter. If he isn't playing then I'm probably in trouble. But I didn't think any legit QB2s would be left after this round. I was surprised that Cassel was still hanging around. I actually thought I may have forgot to cross him off. He'll be more on par with Alex Smith numbers this season but that offense does have weapons. I felt like this was a great value at this spot.
21.06 Lavonte David LB TB
I usually end up drafting extra IDPs late in drafts because the talent level is usually much better than the offensive lottery tickets still floating around. As a rookie, David is a bit of an upside pick. But in 27 college games he put up 285 tackles and 11.5 sacks. And they say he's looking good throughout camp. I'll take that. Also, I may not need him as an IDP but he's a nice insurance policy against injury and a potential trade chip.
22.09 Emmanuel Sanders WR PIT
Sanders has decent upside in that he'll be the slot receiver in PIT, he's only one injury away from starting, and the steelers are really thin at wideout. Add to it the facts that he's been a contributor in the past, he'll return some kicks and there's no great TE to steal those targets.
23.06 Janikowski K OAK
First of all, I love being able to pull for the Big Fat Kicker. Usually I just take the best available kicker in the last round, but considering my draft spot that would have basically meant no better than 9th best kicker. I knew that the guy I wanted with my last pick would still be there so I went kicker one round early to get the Fat One.
24.09 Kyle Arrington CB NE
I wanted a backup DB and I figured Arrington would last until the final round. 88 tackles, 15 passes defended and 7 picks equals a solid backup.

20.08 Nick Foles QB
At this point of the draft, I have a complete team (I think) so I'm drafting to cover injuries and byes. Considering Vick's injury history I think Foles gets time by the 5th week. Does that make him worth the draft pick? Probably not, but it will probably open up options for bye weeks and trades.
21.07 Javon Ringer, RB
A handcuff to Chris Johnson, I also have had Ringer in other deep leagues. He has shown himself to be an average back if Johnson is out.
22.08 Nate Kaeding, K
I guess this pick actually gives me a complete roster. Kaeding should be in a prolific offense so he should get plenty of chances. He also kicks for Norv, so who knows what will happen in San Diego.
23.07 Joe McKnight, RB
He has some value based on his return prospects. I drafted him before I heard about the news that he and USC were being investigated by the NCAA again. At least Reggie Bush was a difference maker in college. I don't think the same could be said of McKnight. Here's hoping that USC wins the National Championship, then receives the death penalty.
24.08 S Hill
Without going to the league site, it took me a some time to remember who this was. I think Hill is a wide receiver. Honestly, if you are still reading these trying to decide on a draft pick, i fear for your draft.
