Things were busy over the holiday weekend, and I forgot to reset my lineup and start Julio Jones.
I always play to the end even is seasons such as this one when I am out of the hunt for a playoff berth.
TD, you owe me a thank you for the gift I gave you, and my apologies to those teams trying to beat TD out for the number 2 seed.

just when my team is forced to put up good numbers to reach the playoffs they show that it is possible.

if only 2 of my 3 or 4 starting RBs could be active any given week and end a game healthy. the last time this was the case was in week 2: Wells is now back. Forte is out. Dwyer isn't starting, but fumbling, and Murray due to get back for a month now. this is really hurting my team all season.
at least it looks like I should reach the playoffs with only 1 additional win.

I'll be locking out all manager add/drop abilities after tonight's gametime, pending setup of playoff brackets and parameters. Once everything is set up on Tuesday, I'll post again and restore abilities as defined below.

Copied from the league rules:
Playoffs
8 teams, single elimination
The 8 teams will be those with the top 6 W/L records plus the two other teams with the most points
The top four seeds will be based on W/L record (including applicable tiebreakers)
Seeds 5-8 will be based on total points for the other four playoff teams
Teams with equivalent W/L records are ranked based on total points first, then head-to-head record.
Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)

Blind bidding will continue throughout the playoffs. At the beginning of the playoffs, the top seeded team will receive an additional blind bidding allocation of $16, the second seed will receive $14, … with the 8th seed receiving $2. These allocations will be added to any balances remaining from the regular season. Any blind bidding ties during the playoffs will be awarded in favor of the better seeded team.

If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.

There will be no restriction on player add/drop transactions for teams still active in the championship playoffs. Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

Playoff teams are the top 6 by W/L record, plus the two remaining teams with the highest point totals (Frick and Crazy 88s). Here are the seeds for the championship bracket:

1. Guru
2. Bonka
3. Youngroman
4. Wiggs
5. Holt
6. TD
7. Frick
8. Crazy 88s

Teams 5-8 were seeded based on total points. This year, the only impact is that teams 5 & 6 switched places.

Championship playoff teams may now submit blind bids as usual. All other teams are locked out from any add/drop/waiver moves for the rest of the season.

In order to adjust blind bidding "arsenals" for the playoffs, I increased the season max from 100 to 116. I then added 2 to the YTD blind bids used for team #2, 4 for team #3, etc. The result is that team #1 has the full $16 available, in addition to any amounts leftover from the regular season. Team #2 has an extra $14 to work with, team #3 has $12, etc.

I set up a custom waiver wire wire order, which I believe will award any blind bid ties to the team with the best seed. Hopefully this will work as expected - but we need to monitor this if it comes into play.

Teams not in the championship bracket have been seeded into the consolation bracket. Since there are only six teams, the first round loser with the highest point total will advance to round two. Pairings will be adjusted if needed to avoid a repeat matchup.

Let me know if anything is unclear, or if it looks like I haven't setup anything properly.

Teams making the playoffs drafted from the following positions (in order of seed): 14-1-11-10-12-8-7-5

Teams not advancing drafted 2-3-4-6-9-13 (not listed in order of seed)

I noticed that one of the AAA leagues had similar results, generally favoring those who drafted late in the first round.

Having said that, I don't think my 14th draft slot was particularly important. My first two picks were Gronkowski and Sproles, followed by AJ Green and Jordy Nelson.

My season success was largely conditioned on the next three picks (rounds 5-7): RG3, Spiller, and Cobb. Rounds 8-10 were all busts: C. McCarthy, Hester, and L. Washington. Other keys draft picks were Von Miller (12) and Tillman (16). But free agent and waiver pickups were also important factors: J. Kerley, Danario Alexander, Brandon Myers, John Abraham, & Antoine Winfield.

Now watch me go up in flames in playoff week #1. It's not that uncommon. I've certainly done it before under similar circumstances.

Hey Guru, I'll put our results here for easy reference for you guys.

The #1 draft pick made the playoffs and picks 8-14 all made the playoffs. I did not look at where we were seeded to pick our draft slot.

In all 4 leagues pick 11 made the playoffs, the only pick to make the playoffs. As a representing 11 pick (Fitzgerald and Sproles as my first 2 picks, whoops) I've got to say it's a proud day for 11 pickers!

I remember doing some research on the best draft positions to pick with the bonzai draft. Can't find the article now, but if I recall correctly, the #11 slot was supposedly the least favorable draft slot.

Not even ssure how they came to determine that, but we've disproved that theory-at least this year.

Based on values they give each draft pick. But, with the draft order we use, every slot is supposed to be within a 2% value range.

In our league the # 3draft slot missed making it in on points by 10.99 points. The #6 draft slot was in the running for top 6 until monday night of the week 13 game.

So there were competitive slots in the top of half of the draft, too.

question: how many years did I reach the RIFC playoffs only to lose in round 1?

answer: the 4th time in a row. my last playoff win was in 2006 where I was the #7 seed, compared to 3-2-3-5 in the last 4 years. ridiculous! I can only hope that the 3rd seed gets me a chance to come back next season.

at least I reached my secondary goal to re-qualify.

maybe I should draft more players that have good matchups in week 14. if only I would know what a good matchup looks like 4 months in advance. is anybody selling a crystal ball that accomplishes this task ? TD, Holt, Guru, anyone?

on the other side 143.88 pts isn't too bad. only Sidney Rice was way below average all others played near or slightly above their averages. but none of my players had a very good game, the only exception was probably Eli with 22, but that is what you regularly expect out of a top QB.

TD had 3 players that had their season high this week: Lynch, Bennett and Wagner. I had none.

if Lynch and Martin keep putting up more than 50 combined points a week it will be tough to beat TD this year. Holt is the other top contender with the trio of Morris, Peterson and Newton. if 3 of your players get you 70 to 80 points a week all other players just need to be average and you still have a very good chance to win.

YR - no crystal balls to offer here.

Your team actually overachieved this year. Without some good fortune in matchups throughout the season, you wouldn't have even qualified for the playoffs. If just two of your game results had been reversed, you'd be in the Consolation bracket.
So I think you ought to feel pretty good about your season.

What are the requirements for getting invited back next season.

I finished 4th with the 3rd most points in the league.

Unfortunately I had a team that decided to lay an egg in the playoffs.

Season average 141
Playoffs- not going to break 100

not that it mattered when you go against Newton and AP when they both have their best games.

For the RIFC, the top 4 seeds plus the winner of the playoffs are locks to return. It's likely that at least 1-2 other teams will return as well, depending on results in this league and the QLs.

I have never stated a hard & fast rule. But it's pretty safe to assume that Bonka, YR, Wiggs, and Holt will return. TD is reasonably secure as well - especially since I was one of the top 6 seeds this year. Frick and Beezer are definitely on the bubble, however.

[135] Looking at playoff week (14-16) matchups is not something I do during the draft. The regular season is too important. If I did that this season, I probably would not have drafted Lynch in the 2nd round because he is going against the SF defense in week 16. Without Lynch, I may not have made the playoffs.

Wiggs - I was definitely worried about your team this week. I figured we'd go into Monday night waiting to see what the freakish J.J. Watt would do (I think that when you beat someone in the playoffs you should get to take one of their players from them. Watt would be my choice for sure. :)
Good season and good luck next year.

Just hoping there's enough of the steam left that my team picked up over the last 4 weeks to carry me through two more games! Peterson says he's going for the rushing record. Hope he does it.

I haven't heard an update on RGIII's situation. If he sits then that could hurt Guru, but it may also have a negative effect on Alfred Morris. RGIII has vultured countless TD's from Morris this year, but his presence has definitely been responsible for a lot of Morris' success.

Youngroman - all you needed to do was to win one less game during the regular season, finishing 15-11 instead of 16-10. That would have dropped you the the #8 seed, where you'd have beaten me in the first playoff game (143.88-133.78) to advance!

YRs team had the 4th worst all-play record and was about .200 above their all-play record and 10th in points. Super lucky to make the playoffs and get an invite back if that's the case.

It's ironic to see that the regular season scheduling luck backfired when it came to playoff seeding and missing out on advancing, as Guru pointed out.

I will again be running the playoff game by MFL. The basic rule is that you can use each player (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DST once over the course of the playoffs.

So. For example, if you use both Brady and Rodgers in their first games you cannot use them again and might be without a QB for the super Bowl. So ya gotta plan.

I will send out my info when our fantasy season is over, but wanted you to know that your fantasy fix can continue!

I guess I had the fortune of catching Guru without RGIII and Gronkowski. I haven't verified it, but I probably would have lost to him every week from wk 1 to 9 or so. Whoever eventually wins this, you can't get around the fact that Guru pummeled us in the regular season. I guess the Giants squeaked into the playoffs last year and ended up winning it all (like many teams before). Guess that's football.

Ah heck - I have a few minutes:
Guru - Holt
178-129.32
160.36-115.96
158.56-134.14
133.92-147.5
123.08-116.66
176.92-132.2
163.84-141.98
132.34-110.72
165.1-148.24
121.7-141.08
185.28-149.74
129.3-190.6
176.74-188.74
133.62-166.48
124.62-155.82

9-6 for Guru overall. 9-2 in the first 11 wks, 0-4 in the last 4. I don't know how to attribute the shift in scoring trends late in the season. I know some of my players started picking it up, like Newton, but I don't know why. I did feel like my team was under-performing for some unknown reason throughout the first half of the season, but then again, we probably all feel that way every season!

I think once you get to the level of competition that you see among rotoguru players (the ones who stick with their teams and stay active anyway), there is a very large amount of luck involved. Luck in everything from draft position to injuries and on and on. You're not simply going to use skill to win year after year. I got lucky and caught Wiggs and Guru in the playoffs with possibly their worst weeks of the season. Now I wait and see who my team faces next week - Bonka or TD. Close game there!

Two years ago I dominated regular season scoring similar to Guru and got bounced in the first round after scoring a whopping 108 points. Good old fantasy football.

TD is currently up by .04. I'd like to win but not going to be all that upset if I lose, even if a repeat would be awesome. Did reasonably well across all my leagues and might turn a pretty decent profit depending on how next week goes.

If you do not want to play this year, please let me know and I will delete your team(s). If you have (non RIFC) friends who want to play, have them email me (swimichel@mac.com) and I will send out an invitation.

You can have up to two teams!
